Nomenclature
(1) Tube, (2) Drill, (3) Crank (only on LASER SPEED and LASER SPEED LIGHT), (4) Hanger. Principal materials: LASER and LASER SPEED: tube (steel), hanger (aluminum alloy). LASER SPEED LIGHT: tube and hanger (aluminum alloy), drill (steel).
Inspection, points to verify
Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once
every 12 months. WARNING: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect your
PPE more frequently. Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record the
results on your PPE inspection form.
Before each use
On the product, verify the absence of any cracks, deformation, marks, wear,
corrosion… Check that there is no gap between the tube and the drill on the
LASER SPEED LIGHT ice screws.
Check the general condition and sharpness of the teeth. Check the condition of the threads. Make sure that the crank folds up properly.
During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its
connections to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of
equipment are correctly positioned with respect to each othe

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Screwing/unscrewing

Choose the thickest and most homogeneous ice possible. Avoid areas of soft,
aerated or cracked ice. Clean the surface of the ice.
Choose a screw length suitable for the ice thickness. The quality of the ice determines the holding power of the ice screw. The screwing force must be uniform for the ice screw to maintain good holding power.
Unscrewing
Quickly remove the ice core from the tube. Do not tap the threads.
Maintenance
After each use, dry out your ice screws. Sharpen your ice screw with a file (see our video: How to sharpen and maintain ice screws at Petzl.com)
