The appliance has been tested and certified by an independent test institute. Please read the safety notes and the operating manual in full. To avoid danger you must pay attention to the safety and operating instructions. Melitta® is not liable for damage caused by ignoring these instructions.

Safety notice

This appliance is intended for use in households and similar areas, such as –

  • kitchens for employees in shops, offices and other commercial areas n agricultural establishments in motels, hotels and other residential facilities and bed and breakfast establishments
  • Any other use is considered to be improper use and may result in personal injury or damage to property. Melitta® is not liable for damage caused by improper use.
  • Please observe the following instructions to avoid injuries in case of misuse:
  • The appliance must not be placed in a cupboard during operation.
  • Connect the appliance only to a properly installed earthed socket.
  • Use only fresh cold water.
  • Use the kettle only for boiling water; do not heat other liquids in it.
  • Do not overfill the kettle. There is a risk of scalding due to water possibly bubbling over. Please refer to the operating instructions or the level indicators on your appliance for the maximum filling level.
  • Use the kettle only with the corresponding base unit.
  • Do not use the kettle without the limescale filter strainer.
  • Do not use the kettle without the lid.
  • Do not open the lid while heating.
  • During use, parts of the kettle become very hot. Avoid touching these parts and avoid contact with the hot steam.
  • After use, the surface of the heating element still has residual heat. Avoid contact with the inner surfaces of the device.
  • Always unplug the unit from the power supply before assembling, disassembling or cleaning, and when not under supervision.
  • Never immerse the kettle in water.
  • Do not allow the power cable to come into contact with liquids.
  • Do not use the kettle if the power cable is damaged.
  • Do not clean parts that come into contact with food with aggressive cleaning agents or scouring milk. Remove detergent residues with clean water.
  • Further information on cleaning can be found under “Cleaning and care”.
  • This appliance may be used by children 8 years of age or older if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the appliance and have understood the hazards involved.
  • Cleaning and maintenance must not be carried out by children unless they are 8 years or older and are supervised.
  • Keep the appliance and power cord away from children under 8 years of age.
  • The device may be used by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or lack of experience and/or knowledge if they have been supervised or instructed in the safe use of the device and have understood the resulting hazards.
  • Do not allow children to play with the kettle.
  • Replacement of the power cable and any other repairs must only be carried out by Melitta® Customer Service or an authorised workshop.

Before first use

  1. Ensure that the power supply in your home corresponds to that on the model plate on the base of the applianc.
  2. Connect the base unit to a power source. Unused cable can be stored in the base of the appliance .
  3. All kettles have been tested during production to ensure they work perfectly. Therefore there may be remaining water deposits. Clean the appliance before use by boiling the maximum amount of water twice.

Usage of the electric kettle

  1. The LEDs light up briefly to indicate that the appliance is ready for use. The LED on the 100° button then lights up continuously as the default setting. If no buttons are pressed for 2 minutes, the appliance switches to “stand by” mode and the LED goes off. To turn the appliance on again, press one of the temperature selection buttons .
    Note: The blue tank light is only switched on during the heating process.

  2. Open the lid by pressing the button . Lid is not removable.

  3. Fill in needed amount of water. The water amount is readable on the water level scale on right and left side of the handle .

  4. Do not fill the kettle beyond the maximum capacity (Capacit max. 1,7 l).

  5. Do not put kettle into operation without water.

  6. Fill it at least to the “Min.” marking.

  7. After filling close lid by pressing it downwards .

  8. Place kettle on the base.

  9.  The appliance has 3 preset temperature levels for different uses:

  10. 100°:boiling water

  11. 95°: particularly suitable for making coffee manually (“pour over”)

  12. 80° e.g. to make green tea.
    Tip: Select the temperature setting 80° or 95° for uses that do not require boiling water. This saves energy. Select the required temperature by briefly pressing the relevant temperature button .
    Note: the blue tank light only comes on during the heating process.

  13. Start the heating process 7.1 Without warm-keeping feature After selecting the temperature , press the on/off button  to start the heating process. The water tank LED will light up and the LED on the selected temperature button will start flashing. When the required temperature is reached, both the light in the water tank and the LED on the temperature button will turn off. This indicates that the heating process is complete.
    Note: After starting the heating process both with and without the warm- keeping feature, the temperature can be changed as required and the warm- keeping feature can be switched on or off whenever you like.
    7.2 Including warm-keeping feature The appliance is equipped with a warm- keeping feature which you can select at 95° or 80°. After selecting the temperature , press the warmkeeping button  instead of the on/off button. The water tank LED and the the warm-keeping button LED light up and the LED on the selected temperature button starts flashing. When the heating process is complete, the appliance switches to the warm-keeping feature and keeps the water at the selected temperature for 30 minutes. Both the LED on the warm- keeping button and the LED on the selected temperature button are illuminated continuously during this time. After the warmkeeping period has elapsed, all LEDs go off. Attention: The warm-keeping feature cannot be combined with the 100° temperature button. This prevents the water from boiling dry (see point “boil-dry protection”).

  14. The heating process or the warm-keeping feature can be stopped manually at any time. To do this, either press the on/off button , the warmkeeping button  or lift the appliance off the base unit. The appliance will not switch on again when you return it to the base unit.

Dry boil protection

The heater is equipped with an overheating protector. Should you switch on the appliance accidentally without water or if water is completely exhaled (e.g. if lid is not closed) the dry boil protection switches off automatically. In this case leave appliance to cool down before use it again.

Lime filter
The lime filter in spout area keeps back lime particles while pouring. For cleaning the lime filter: pull it upwards out of the kettle .

Cleaning and maintenance

Before cleaning always remove plug from socket!

Cleaning
Use a soft damp cloth and washing-up liquid to clean the exterior. Clean appliance and cord never under flowing water or immerse in water. Do not use acrid or abrasive detergents.

Descaling
Lime disposal in appliance is not avoidable. Only regularly descaling ensures perfect operation of your electric kettle. Please descale as soon as a visible lime coating has built up on the warming plate of the kettle. We recommend Melitta® Anti Calc products such as Melitta® “Anti Calc Liquid for Filter Coffee & Aqua Machines” for descaling. However, you can also use any other commercially available product. Use the descaler following the instructions of the supplier of the descaler on the package.

Important:
Execute necessarily 2-3 boiling cycles after descaling to clean the appliance.

Notes on disposal

  • Appliances labelled with this symbol are subject to European guidelines for WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment).
  • Electric appliances do not go in the household bin. Dispose of the appliance in an environmentally friendly way using suitable collection systems.
  • Packaging materials are raw materials and can be recycled. Please recycle them.

Terms of guarantee

In addition to the legal guarantee claims, to which the end user is entitled relative to the seller, for this device, if it was purchased from a dealer authorized by Melitta® due to his consulting competence, we grant a manufacturer´s guarantee under the following conditions

  1. The guarantee period begins with the day the product was sold to the end user. The guarantee is 24 months. The purchase date of the device must be verified by a purchase receipt. The device was designed and built for household use only. It is not dedicated for a commercial use. Guarantee performances lead neither to an extension of the guarantee period nor to a new beginning of the guarantee period for the device or installed spare parts.
  2. Within the guarantee period we will correct all device defects that are based on material or manufacturing errors, through repair or replacement of the device at our discretion. Replace parts become the property of Melitta®.
  3. Defects that occurred due to improper connection, improper handling, or repair attempts by unauthorized persons are not covered by the guarantee. The same applies for failure to comply with the use, care, and maintenance instructions as well for the use of consumables (e.g. cleaning and decalcifying agents or waterfilters) that do not correspond to the original specifications. Wear parts (e.g. seals and valves) and fragile parts like glass are excluded from the guarantee.
  4. Guarantee performances are processed via the Service Hotlines for the respective country (see information below).
  5. These guarantee conditions apply for devices purchased and used in UK If devices are purchased in foreign countries or brought into foreign countries, then guarantee performances will only be provided as specified in the guarantee conditions applicable for this country.
