Set the current time using the H and M buttons b. This goes faster if you hold down the button. The appliance is only ready for use after setting the time. By simultaneously holding down the H and M buttons b for longer than two seconds, you can turn the display light on or off. -
All appliances have been tested during production to ensure they work perfectly. Therefore there may be for example water deposits remaining. Rinse the appliance twice with the maximum amount of water and without a filter bag or ground coffee, in order to clean it.
-
For the best coffee enjoyment and convenient use, the appliance is equipped with various features. These features are explained below.
Set water hardness
Depending on water hardness lime scale may build up in the appliance. This
increases the appliance’s energy consumption as lime scale on the heating
element can prevent the water heating effectively. To avoid damage the
appliance must be descaled regularly. The descaling display helps you with
this c. If the red LED is permanently lit this shows that the appliance needs
to be descaled (see point 6).
The appliance is pre-set for a high level of water hardness (level 4). You can
find out the level of water hardness in your area by asking your local water
provider or by using water hardness measuring strips available in the shops.
For softer water the descaling display can be adjusted to descale less often:
Melitta® AromaElegance®
- Hold down the DECALC/HARDNESS button c for longer than two seconds. The red LED will start to flash. In the factory settings the LED flashes four times with the following pauses (…⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛…).
- You can set the water hardness at three other levels. By briefly pressing the DECALC/HARDNESS but-ton c the display changes to flashing briefly once, twice or three times, each time followed by a pause (…⬛⬛⬛… ,⬛⬛… ,…⬛…).
- The settings and display are shown in table 1.
- Once you have set the desired level of water hardness, hold down the DECALC/HARDNESS button c again for longer than two seconds.
The red LED will go off and your settings are saved.
Melitta® AromaElegance® DeLuxe
- Hold down the DECALC/HARDNESS button c and by briefly pressing the M button b set the desired level of water hardness. The hardness level will be shown in the display.
- Once you have set the desired level of hardness let go of the DECALC/HARDNESS button c. Your settings are now saved.
Please note:
- Water hardness cannot be programmed while brewing.
- The last water hardness level chosen remains even after removing the power cable.
Setting the hotplate (ONLY Melitta® AromaElegance® DeLuxe)
Keeping coffee warm on the hotplate affects the taste of your coffee. To avoid this you should enjoy your coffee fresh, by drinking it as soon after brewing as possible. Unnecessary warming also uses valuable energy. The factory settings for the appliance are for 40 minutes of warming. After this the hotplate turns off automatically. This time can be changed as needed:
- Simultaneously hold down the START button d and the TIMER button e and by briefly pressing the M button b set the desired warming time (20, 40 or 60 minutes). The current warming time is shown in the display.
- Once you have set the desired warming time let go of the button. Your setting is now saved.
- The last setting chosen remains even after removing the power cable.
Making coffee
For aromatic coffee flavour and the best fit for your filter bag in the filter holder, we recommend using Melitta® filter bag 1×4®.
Brewing coffee
-
Ensure that the appliance is connected to a power source.
-
Remove the detachable water tank by holding the recessed grip and pulling straight up f.
-
Remove the water tank lid and fill with the desired amount of fresh water from the tap. Using the water level indicator on the tank you can choose the correct number of cups.
Small cup symbol = approx. 85ml coffee per cup, large cup symbol = approx. 125 ml coffee per cup f. -
Close the tank by replacing the lid and insert the tank back in the appliance. Please ensure that you replace the tank upright in the appliance. The guide rails on the appliance (left of the tank) will help you with this g.
-
Swivel the filter to the right and remove it from
the holder h. You can now conveniently rest the filter on your kitchen worktop. -
Fold a Melitta® filter bag 1×4® at the embossed seams and place in the filter holder. Press the filter bag into the filter holder by hand, to ensure the best fit i.
-
Put the ground coffee into the filter bag. The amount depends on your personal taste. We recommend using 6 g of ground coffee per large cup.
Put the filter back into its holder. For this hang first the eyelet of the filter on the top of the swivel arm and afterwards press the round base into the clip. An audible click tells you it is inserted properly j. -
Swivel the filter back into the appliance and place the glass pot with closed lid in the appliance k.
-
Turn the appliance on d. The green LED lights up and brewing begins.
-
To fully develop the flavor of your coffee even when preparing less than 6 cups, the Melitta® Aroma Elegance® models are fitted with the Aroma Control feature as standard. So even when preparing small quantities of coffee you get the best aromatic coffee experience. When making 2-5 cups press the START but-ton d for longer than two seconds. The green LED flashes and brewing begins.
-
After making the coffee the hotplate keeps it warm and turns off automatically after the time you have set (see point 4). This avoids the unnecessary use of electricity and saves energy. You can of course turn the appliance off manually at any time. The drip stop prevents your coffee from dripping, when you remove the pot from the appliance l. With the help of the detachable filter you can dis-pose of the coffee filter bag simply and easily h.
Timer feature (ONLY Melitta® Aroma Elegance® Deluxe)
The appliance is fitted with a timer. This allows you to set a time at which brewing will automatically begin.
- Prepare the appliance as described in point 5.1. brewing coffee, but without pressing the START button.
- To set the desired start time hold down the TIMER button e and press the H and M buttons b repeatedly to set the desired start time. This goes faster if you hold down the H and M buttons. The first time you programmed it, the display will show 00:00.
- After letting go of the TIMER button, the current time will show. The chosen start time is saved until you set a different time or remove the appliance from the power source.
- By briefly pressing the TIMER button again, the timer feature is activated for the next brewing process. To show this, the white LED e lights up and the programmed start time shows briefly in the display.
- If you wish to activate the Aroma Control for the programmed brewing, then press the START button d for longer than two seconds. Now as well as the white LED, a green LED d will light up.
- The appliance automatically starts to make the coffee at the time you have set.
- By pressing the TIMER button again, the timer feature can be deactivated at any time. The white LED goes off e.
- If you want to make coffee before the programmed start time then press the START button d. The timer feature will then be deactivated.
Cleaning and maintenance
External cleaning
- The housing can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
- The glass pot and lid, the filter insert and the swivel filter can be washed in the dishwasher.
- When cold, the hotplate can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
Descaling
Based on the water hardness level you have set (see point 3) the descaling
programme should be run promptly after the DECALC/HARDNESS button c lights up.
The descaling programme is only available when the descaling display lights
up.

Follow the manufacturers instructions regarding amounts and pour the descale into the water tank. We recommend using Melitta® “Anti Calc Liquid for Filter Coffee & Aqua Machines“.
-
Briefly press the DECALC/HARDNESS button c. The red LED begins to flash. In the display the word “CALC” flashes
(ONLY Melitta® Aroma Elegance® Deluxe). -
The descaling process will run automatically, it takes about 25 minutes.

-
After the descaling process is completed the DECALC/HARDNESS button light will go off. The appliance will turn off automatically and go into stand-by mode.
-
At the end of the descaling process, the appliance should be rinsed twice through, using the maximum amount of water without coffee, in order to completely remove any remaining limescale deposits.
