Safety notice

Please read this instruction manual carefully before using the grinder for the ﬁrst time.
The appliance is suitable for use in private households or for pre-paring ground coffee in amounts usual in private households. All other use is contrary to that intended and can lead to injury or damage. Melitta® is not liable for damage caused by using the appliance in ways other than that intended.
Connect the appliance only to a correctly installed socket.
Remove the appliance from the socket before cleaning and if it is not being used for longer periods.
Check the grinding chamber for presence of foreign objects before using.
Do not remove the hopper lid until the grinding wheel has come to a complete standstill.
Never place fingers or hands near the grinding wheel and/or the ground coffee outlet while operating.
Do not let the power cord hang free or touch any hot surfaces (e.g. oven-plates).
Do not use the appliance if the power cable is damaged.
Never immerse the appliance in water and do not use abrasives, harsh cleaning solutions or hard brushes for cleaning.
Do not put any parts of the appliance in the dishwasher.
Always use a soft brush to clean the grinding wheel. Do not use water or soap for cleaning.
This appliance shall not be used by children. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
The appliance can be used by people with limited physical, sensory or mental aptitude, or who have limited experience or knowledge, if they are supervised or instructed in how to use the appliance safely and have under-stood the dangers involved in using it.
Children must not play with the appliance.
Replacing the power cable and any other repairs should only be carried out by the Melitta® customer service or by an authorized repair workshop.
The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause ﬁre, electric shock, or injury.

Before first use

Remove the packaging and unpack the coffee grinder.
All appliances have been tested during production to ensure they work perfectly. Thereof there might be remains of e.g. coffee powder. Clean the housing, the grinding chamber, the ground coffee container and the lid before ﬁrst use (see point 5 “Cleaning the coffee grinder”).
Place the ground coffee container/lid as well as the coffee hopper lid in the correct position. The coffee grinder will not start to operate unless the hopper lid is attached to the grinding chamber and the ground coffee container is inserted correctly.
The grinder is exclusively intended for coffee beans. Make sure that there are no foreign objects or other foodstuffs in the appliance.
Ensure that the power supply in your home corresponds to that on the model plate on the base of the appliance.
Connect the appliance to a power source.

Using the coffee grinder

Ensure that the appliance is connected to the power source.
Remove the hopper lid of the bean container by lifting it straight up a.
Fill the grinding chamber with the desired amount of coffee beans (max. 200 g). Only add coffee beans to bean hopper b.
ATTENTION: Using unsuitable types of coffee may lead to clogging of the grinder. Do not use freeze-dried or caramelized coffee beans and do not pour ground coffee in the bean container.
Put the hopper lid back onto the grinder c.
The grind setting dial allows the adjustment of coarse setting in several steps. Select the coarseness level by turning the grind setting dial d. The dial should be readjusted while grinding.
NOTE: The coarseness level ranges from 1 ( ) the ﬁnest setting to 17 ( ) the coarsest setting.
Turn the cup setting dial to select the number of cups to be brewed. e Any amount from 2 to 14 cups can be chosen.
Press the ON/OFF button to start grinding f. The ground coffee passes the grinder chute and will be collected in the ground coffee container.
NOTE: Avoid ﬁlling the ground coffee container completely since this may cause a blockage inside the appliance.
The grinder stops automatically once the selected amount of ground coffee has been produced.
If you hear a high-pitched noise, coffee beans are stuck in the grinding chamber. Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the appliance f and unplug it from the power source g. Please clean the grinder as explained in point 5.
Remove the ground coffee container when the grinding process is completely ﬁnished h. To reduce static build up, tap gently against the ground coffee container. Remove the container lid.
Your freshly ground, aromatic coffee is now ready for use.

Tips for best use

For best flavour, store coffee beans in an airtight container.
Only grind the required amount of beans immediately before brewing as the ﬂavour and smell of ground coffee changes with exposure to air and through other food items.
Please clean the grinder after each use (see point 5 “Cleaning the coffee grinder”).
If the appliance cannot be switched on again after use this is due to a thermal fuse. Please unplug the appliance and allow it to cool down for 5 minutes. The quantity of ground coffee needed depends on the type of beans, the degree of grinding and the size of the cups. Coffee ﬂavour and strength is a personal preference. To ﬁnd your personal preference, vary the type of coffee beans, the amount of coffee and the coarseness setting. We recommend using 6-8 g of ground coffee on a medium grind setting.
If espresso is brewing too fast in your pump machine, lower the grind setting.

Depending on the type of coffee and the preferred preparation method, we recommend the following

Cleaning the coffee grinder

ATTENTION: Disconnect the power plug from the socket outlet prior to cleaning the device g.

Remove the ground coffee container with lid h and the hopper lid a.
Wash the ground coffee container, its lid and hopper lid in warm water, rinse, and let it dry completely.
Use a soft damp cloth to clean the housing.
Clean the grinder with the enclosed brush i.
Remove any remaining beans in the bean container and turn grind setting dial to 1 d. Place your ﬁngers along the ridges at the top of the removable grinding wheel. Turn the wheel clockwise until it stops. Lift it up out of the grinding chamber and clean the grinding disc with the enclosed brush j k.
After cleaning, place the grinding wheel back in the chamber. Turn the wheel anti-clockwise until “17” appears on the grind setting dial d.

NOTE: Never immerse the coffee grinder base, cord, plug or grinding wheel in water or any other liquids. Never put the device or removable parts in the dishwasher.

Notes on disposal

Appliances labelled with this symbol are subject to European guidelines for WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment).
Electric appliances do not go in the household bin. Dispose of the appliance in an environmentally friendly way using suitable collection systems.
Packaging materials are raw materials and can be recycled. Please recycle them.

Terms of guarantee

In addition to the legal guarantee claims, to which the end user is entitled relative to the seller, for this device, if it was purchased from a dealer authorized by Melitta® due to his consulting competence, we grant a manufacturer´s guarantee under the following conditions:

The guarantee period begins with the day the product was sold to the end user. The guarantee is 24 months. The purchase date of the device must be verified by a purchase receipt.
The device was designed and built for household use only. It is not dedicated for a commercial use. Guarantee performances lead neither to an extension of the guarantee period nor to a new beginning of the guarantee period for the device or installed spare parts.
Within the guarantee period we will correct all device defects that are based on material or manufacturing errors, through repair or replacement of the device at our discretion. Replace parts become the property of Melitta®.
Defects that occurred due to improper connection, improper handling, or repair attempts by nonauthorized persons are not covered by the guarantee. The same applies for failure to comply with the use, care, and maintenance instructions as well for the use of consumables (e.g. cleaning and decalcifying agents or water filters) that do not correspond to the original specifications. Wear parts (e.g. seals and valves) and fragile parts like glass are excluded from the guaran-tee.
Guarantee performances are processed via the Service Hotlines for the respective country (see information below).
These guarantee conditions apply for devices purchased and used in UK If devices are purchased in foreign countries or brought into foreign countries, then guarantee performances will only be provided as specified in the guarantee conditions applicable for this country.
