WARNINGS

  • The battery must be inserted base end first (the end that doesn’t have a pole).
  • Do not insert the battery the wrong way.
  • Do not use different batteries to the one provided.
  • Do not use the battery if it is damaged.
  • After diving, ensure the torch is switched off and the master switch is in the ‘off’ position.
  • When storing the torch, remove the battery to ensure the power is shut off.
  • After every dive, clean the torch with fresh, clean water and dry with a cloth. Salt water residue can corrode the torch surface.
  • Ensure that the screwing points on both the canister and the charging point cap are lubricated regularly. A container of lubricant is supplied with your torch.
  • Avoid any impact on any part of the torch.
  • When the battery is fully charged, switch off the charger at the wall and remove the charger’s plug from the canister.
  • Do not shine the light directly into eyes.
  • Take care not to pull on any cables as this can cause stress and damage.

BATTERY INSTALLATION

Insert the battery base end first (the end with no + or – pole), and close the canister cap, taking care not to disturb the O rings. Do not insert the battery the wrong way. Seek advice if you are unsure.

OPERATION

  1. The torch is operated by a mechanical master switch (on the canister) and a magnetic induction switch (on the torch head). Turn the master switch to the ‘on’ position to turn the power on, and press the switch on the torch head once to turn the light on.
  2. Pressing and holding the torch head switch at this point will dim the light – release the switch when the desired output is reached.
  3. Pressing once more will switch the light off.
  4. Turning the master switch to the ‘off’ position will shut the power off.

WARNING
The torch head features a ring around the switch. This will flash green every 5 seconds when the master switch has been turned on. It will illuminate green when the torch head is switched on. After approximately 3h 55m has elapsed on full power, the torch will produce approximately 5 minutes of further burn time at 3200 lumens before the light switches off. The light around the switch will illuminate red when this period begins. The light on the canister will also signal the same thing. The torch may perform for longer at a lower output, but when this period begins, you must leave the water immediately if you require a substantial light source and don’t have another one.

CHARGING THE TORCH

  • When you receive the torch, the battery will have some charge in it. Before the first use of the torch, ensure it is fully charged.
  • To preserve the life of the battery, it’s good practice to use the torch until the battery is empty and then fully charge it again.
  • Ensure the torch is completely dry before commencing charging.
  • Unscrew the cap on the charging point and insert the charger.
  • Plug in and switch on the charger at the mains (wall).
  • The charger indicator will be constantly lit up when batteries are on charge.
  • Battery charge time is approx 3.5-4 hours.
  • The charger will stop drawing power completely when batteries are fully charged.
  • When the battery is fully charged, switch off the charger, remove it from the canister’s charg-ing point and screw the charging point cap back on carefully.
  • It is normal for the canister/charger to become warm when charging.

WARNING
The charger light will be permanently illuminated when batteries are charging. The light does not change to show a full charge. The light simply indicates the batteries are charging.

THE CARABINER
We have included a carabiner with each torch set. You can connect this to a suitable connection point on your diving equipment as well as, or instead of, the canister mount. This comes down to personal preference and/or the type of diving you are doing. If you are unsure of anything, get in touch with us for expert advice.

MOUNTING CANISTER TO A CAM BAND
The cam band will attach the torch’s canister to a main diving cylinder. Prior to diving, always check the torch will attach properly to your cylinder. Alternatively, if your BCD’s cam band is the same width 2” (50mm) as the supplied cam band, you may be able to fit the rubber part shown below on to your BCD’s cam band if you prefer. In any case, the band should be fed through the rubber part as shown so that it is on the outside of the band.

  • STEP 1
Fit the cam band around the cylinder at a suitable height and with the buckle positioned at the rear of the cylinder. This cross section shows how you should thread the band through the buckle.

  • STEP 2
Fit the torch’s canister between the rubber part and the cam band’s webbing. Push the canister all the way down until the rubber sits above the groove on the canister. Ensure that the rubber part is pulled tight.

  • STEP 3
Pull the slack through with the end of the band until the buckle is standing approximately vertical from the cylinder.

  • STEP 4
Rotate the cam closed. It should require a fair amount of force, but do not over tension. Secure the band with the hook and loop patches. Ensure the canister is securely in place.

NOTE
Seek advice if you are unsure of the correct tightness. Take care not to get body parts caught in the cam band as this can cause serious injury.

WRIST MOUNT INSTRUCTIONS

The cam band will attach the torch’s canister to a main diving cylinder. Prior to diving, always check the torch will attach properly to your cylinder. Alternatively, if your BCD’s cam band is the same width 2” (50mm) as the supplied cam band, you may be able to fit the rubber part shown below on to your BCD’s cam band if you prefer. In any case, the band should be fed through the rubber part as shown so that it is on the outside of the band.

  • STEP 1
The wrist mount should be worn with the curved part at the back of the hand (straight part at the front of the hand).

  • STEP 2
The rear strap goes under the wrist, then through the buckle. It is then secured with the hook and loop patches – adjust as necessary until you have a secure fit.

  • STEP 3
The front strap goes under the palm, through the buckle and secured with the hook and loop patches, like the other strap.

  • STEP 4
The torch head mounts on the plastic base by sliding it backwards into place from the front of the mount.

  • STEP 5
The plastic base on the torch head has two push-in clips which release the torch head from the mount. Press in both clips and push the torch head forward to release.NORTHERN-DIVER-Varilux-U-XHP70-4000-Lumen-Rechargeable-Cable-
