PerTronix thanks you for choosinga JBA Performance Exhaust Product. To realize the potential of JBA’s engineering and excellent fit, Please Read and Understand these instructions completely prior to starting the installation. Check that you received all the parts listed on the parts list, if you have any concerns, please contact PerTronix before continuing. Headers Will have the part number stamped in the flange. Work Smart-Work Safe! Most Header and Exhaust Installation are best performed on a lift. If a lift is not available, raise the vehicle and support on quality Jack Stands on level ground. Do not rely on a jack! We use sealing beads on all our headers. The raised bead creates a better seal virtually eliminating leaks if installed propely. It is important to install all header bolts lightly snug and then tighten to factory torque specs starting in the center and working outward. Before starting, allow the vehicle to cool, disconnect the battery, and spray a penetrating oil on all hardware and fittings that will need to be removed. Once you remove your manifold, clean the sealing surface on the head of any old gasket debris or carbon build up.
- Start by removing the factory y-pipe. Unbolt the y-pipe from the rest of the exhaust system and the stock manifolds and disconnect the O2 sensors.
- Next, If equipped, loosen the EGR tube from the driver side manifold.
- Remove the nuts attaching the manifolds to the heads. Remove the manifolds. Remove the studs from the heads.
- Remove the dipstick by unbolting the factory bracket.
- Using a scraper remove all carbon deposits and high spots from head surface, use care not to gouge the aluminum heads.
- Apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads of the supplied bolts. Passenger Side: Slide the header into place from underneath and install using the supplied gasket, Header Bolts and Washers. Tighten evenly from the center out. Driver Side: Slide the header into pace from underneath and insert the dipstick through the header into its hole. Make sure it is seated well. Loosely attach the EGR tube BEFORE bolting the header to the head. Using the supplied gasket, headers bolts and washers install the header and tighten evenly from the center out. Tighten the EGR tube and dipstick bracket.
- Apply a small amount of Hi-temp RTV (sensor safe) around the exhaust pipe flares. Reinstall the factory y-pipe using the supplied hardware. Then reconnect the O2 sensors.
- Recheck everything. Make sure there is adequate clearance on all lines (vacuum, brake, A/C, fuel)
- Reconnect the battery cables.
- Start the engine, check for leaks and test drive. Then let engine cool and then re-torque the header bolts.
- Periodically check and retighten the header bolts.
