Work Smart — Work Safe! Most Header and Exhaust Installation are best performed on a lift. If a lift is not available, raise the vehicle and support on quality Jack Stands on level ground. Do not rely on a jack! We use sealing beads on all our headers.
The raised bead creates a better seal virtually eliminating leaks if installed properly. It is important to install all header bolts lightly snug and then tighten to factory torque specs starting in the center and working outward. Before starting, allow the vehicle to cool, disconnect the battery, and spray a penetrating oil on all hardware and fittings that will need to be removed. Once you remove your manifold, clean the sealing surface on the head of any old gasket debris or carbon build up.

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wires by grasping and gently twisting the spark plug wire boots.

  2. From underneath, remove the three bolts holding the catalytic convertor to each exhaust manifold.
Either Support the factory Y-Pipe or remove it until the headers are installed as the factory flex pipe can become kinked making it hard to reattach to the headers. There  is a metal O-Ring that seals the Cat to the manifold on the driver’s side and a Push in metal and Fiber dome shaped seal on the passenger side. Both of these will be  reused with the JBA headers.

  3. Remove the bolt that holds the oil dipstick to the motor and remove the dipstick.

  4. Starting on the driver’s side, Remove the three bolts holding the heat shield to the stock manifold and remove the heat shield.

  5. Remove the five bolts holding the exhaust manifold to the head and remove the manifold and factory gasket.

  6. With the manifold out of the way, clean the sealing surface of the cylinder head.

  7. Install the new header using the supplied gaskets, bolts, and lock washers. Apply anti seize to the threads and tighten evenly starting in the center and working outward.

  8. Repeat for the passenger side.

  9. Re install the Oil Dipstick and the spark plug wires.

  10. Reconnect the factory exhaust/catalytic convertors to the headers using the original gaskets and supplied hardware.

  11. Start the engine and let it warm up. Check for leaks. Shut engine off and let it cool down. Check to make sure all fasteners are tight.

  12. Re torque after 100 miles. Periodically check and retighten the header bolts
