Getting Started

INTRODUCTION:

  • Please take some time to read the manual before using the Solo B1 radio.
  • Choose a suitable location for the radio.
  • Make sure there is suitable ventilation for the device!
  • If necessary, remove the protective plastic protective sheet from the display.

Power supply (Adapter):
Insert the mains adaptor plug into your home AC socket. Connect the other end of the cable(Type-C USB) into the 5V/500mA port on the device.

CAUTION:
Only use the supplied power adapter for this device.
NOTE:
Disconnect from mains power supply during longer periods of non-use.

Battery Operation

  1. The Solo B1 has a 3.7V 2000mAh built-in rechargeable battery.
  2. Make sure the battery is fully charge before used with the battery.

Operating your radio

  1. Carefully extend the telescopic aerial.
  2. Press and HOLD the POWER button until the radio switches on. The display will show “AZATOM Digital Radio”.
  3. If this is the first time the unit goes into DAB Mode, it will automatically start an ‘Auto Scan’ to search for available stations. (Once DAB Mode has been used before, the radio will automatically select the previously played station).
  4. Press SCAN at any time will automatically start an auto scan. During the scanning process, the lower line of the display shows a bar-graph indicating progress of the scan and found number of stations.
  5. When the scanning is completed the first station (in alphanumeric order) will be selected. The clock will automatically set to the current time.
  6. If the station list is still empty after the scan your radio will display “Service not available”.
  7. If no stations are found, please ensure the aerial is extended and test the reception by doing another auto scan in a different location.

Selecting a station – DAB

  1. The top line of the display shows the name of the station currently selected. After 10 seconds the display will revert to showing the time. You can press the MENU button twice to display the radio name again whilst its playing.
  2. Press the << >> button to choose from the list of available stations on the lower line of the display, and press the ENTER button to confirm and play the desired station

Finding new radio stations – DAB

Over time new stations may become available. To find new stations you can auto scan as follows.

  1. Press the MENU button until the display shows “settings”.
  2. Press >> button until you see “Full scan”.
  3. Press ENTER button. The display will show “Scanning…” as your radio performs a scan. As new radio stations are found they will be added to memory

Secondary services – DAB

  1. Some radio stations have additional secondary services associated with them.
    If a radio station has a secondary service associated with it the display will show “>>” next to the station name on the station list. The secondary service will then appear immediately after the primary services when you press the >> buttons.

  2. Press ENTER to choose the station.

  3. When the secondary service shuts down, your radio will automatically switch back to the main radio station if it is available

Manual Tuning – DAB

Manual tuning allows you to tune your radio to a particular DAB frequency in Band III. This function is mainly used to assist the positioning of the aerial or the radio to optimise reception for a specific channel or frequency and see the signal strength on your display.

  1. When in DAB mode, press MENU.

  2. Press >> button to Choose “Manual tune”

  3. Choose the required DAB channel / Frequency. Press ENTER.
    When the radio has searched, the display will show the channel number with frequency(MHz) and the name of the multiplex found(if any).
    A bar graph shows the signal strength. Any new stations found will be added to the list already stored in the radio.

  4. Press >> to choose a different frequnecy.

  5. Press MENU to go back to the main menu

Auto Search Tuning – FM

  1. Press MODE to enter FM mode.
  2. Press SCAN. Your radio will scan and save any stations with a strong signal in its memory. After the search is complete the display will show the frequency and play the first available station.
  3. Press and hold the >> button until the it starts to auto seach. The search will stop and play the next available saved station.

Manual Tuning – FM

  1. Press MODE button to select FM mode.
  2. Press >> button to tune to a station. With each press of >> the frequency will change by 50 kHz to help fine tune each station for best reception.

Prune – DAB

Prune: (To remove stations which are listed but unavailable).

  1. In DAB MODE, press MENU.
  2. Press >> to find “Prune”, press ENTER button to enter the Prune option.
  3. Press >> to find “YES”. Press ENTER button to confirm to prune. Note: this removes all the invalid stations indicated in the station list with a “?” in front of the station name.

Preset Stations – FM and DAB

You may store your preferred DAB and FM radio stations to the preset station memories. There are 80 memory presets in your radio, 40 for DAB and 4 0 for FM. Presets are remembered by your radio in the event of a power failure. The procedure for setting presets and using them to tune stations is the same for FM and DAB modes

  1. Press MODE button to choose “DAB OR FM” Mode.
  2. IMPORTANT : Make sure the station you want to preset is actually playing.
  3. Press and HOLD the PRESET button for 2 seconds until you see “Preset store” not “Preset Recall”
  4. Press >> to choose which number preset you want to save your station into (Presets 1 to 40).
  5. Press SELECT to confirm and store the playing station in your choosen preset number (1 to 40). For example, “Preset 01 stored”. Repeat this procedure.
  6. FAST PRESET for number buttons 1,2,3,4, and 5. Play the station you want to PRESET. Press and hold the numbered button until you see “Preset stored”. You can choose any of the preset number buttons. The maximum number of presets you can save this way is 6.

Recalling Presets

  1. Press MODE to choose “DAB OR FM” Mode.
  2. Press once the PRESET button to see “Preset Recall” not “Preset Store”
  3. Press >> to choose which number preset (1 to 40) you want to play from favourite presets.
  4. Press ENTER button to play that station.
    Note : If you have previously saved presets in numbers 1 to 5. You can fast recall these stations by just simply pressing buttons “1,2,3,4, or 5 depending on which preset you want to play

Bluetooth

To pair your device via Bluetooth for the first time:

  1. Select the BT mode by pressing the MODE button to see “BT”
  2. After a few seconds, the speaker will automatically go into paring mode.
  3. On your Bluetooth device (such as mobile phone) do a search and once available please select “Azatom Solo B1”.
  4. Once connected, the screen will say “Bluetooth connected”.

Sleep Function

Your radio can be set to turn off after a preset time has elapsed. The sleep setting can be adjusted between 15 and 90 minutes. Ensure your radio is switched on.

  1. Press MENU button to show “settings”. Press ENTER to show “Set Sleep Time”. Press ENTER
  2. Continue to turn dial to find the desired sleep time of 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes or SLEEP OFF which will cancel the sleep function.
  3. Press ENTER to confirm the setting. The sleep timer indicator will show after 10 seconds. Your radio will switch off after the selected sleep time has elapsed.

Backlight Setting

As default, when no buttons are pressed for 45 seconds, the display brightness will dim down to save the battery life if they are used. You can turn off the auto dim in settings.

To set the backlight to never dim,

  1. Press the MENU button to find “settings” menu. Press ENTER.
  2. Use the dial or press >> until you see “Backlight” on the display. Press ENTER
  3. Choose “Backlight Auto” and press ENTER.
  4. Choose between ON, 10,20,30,45,60,90, 120 and 180 seconds for auto dim. If you choose ON the display will stay on all the time.

Time/Date Setting

  1. Press MENU to enter the “settings” menu. Press ENTER.
  2. Use the dial or press >> until you see “Time/ Date” on the display. Press ENTER
  3. Use the dial to set the time. After each setting process, hours, minutes, day, month and year press select to confirm each one.

Alarm Setting

NOTE : PLEASE SELECT A RADIO STATION BEFORE SETTING THE ALARM.
You will be given the option to choose from last station used or one of your favourite preset channels.

  1.  Press ALARM to entry the alarm setting menu, press ALARM again to choose “ALARM 1” or “ALARM 2”.
  2. Use the dial or press >> to set the alarm time and press ENTER to confirm.
  3. Use the dial or press >> to set the duration “15, 30, 45, 60, 90” minutes and press ENTER to confirm.
  4. Use the dial or press >> to set the alarm source (FM, DAB, Buzzer) and press ENTER to confirm.
  5. If you choose “DAB” or “FM” for the alarm sound source and you have presets already stored, you can choosed between last played station or one of your stored presets.
  6. Use the dial or press >> to set days you want the alarm to sound from “Once / Daily / Weekdays / Weekends”.
  7. Use the dial or press >> to set the alarm volume and press ENTER to confirm.
  8. Use the dial or press >> to set the Alarm “ON or OFF”.

Snooze – Stop Alarm

  1. When the alarm sounds, pressing the SNOOZE button will temporarily silence the alarm, you can choose the time from “5, 10, 15 and 30” minutes.
  2. The snooze function also has a countdown allowing you to see how long before the alarm re-sounds.

Stop Alarm:

When the alarm is sounding you can press the ALARM button one time to stop the alarm sound. The radio will then return to Standby mode.

Disable / Enable Alarm:

If you want to disable or Enable the alarm at any time you can do the following. Press and hold down the alarm button until it says either “Alarm 1 ON”, “Alarm 1 OFF”, “Alarm 2 ON”, “Alarm 2 OFF”, “Alarm 1/2 ON”, “Alarm 1/2 OFF”.

AUX-IN

Aux-in mode plays audio from an external source such as a smart phone or tablet.

  1. Plug on end of 3.5mm audio cable (excluded) into the headphone or line out jack on your player, plug the other end of cable into the unit AUX-IN jack.
  2. Turn on the external audio source and play your device.
  3. Press MODE button to “Auxiliary Input” mode.
  4. The volume level can be now controlled through the main unit.

Notes:

If you’re connected to the Line out Jack of your external device, then you only need to adjust the volume control of this unit. If you’re connected to the Headphone Jack of your external device, then you may need to adjust both the volume control of your external device and the volume control of this unit to find the most desirable volume setting.
Please ensure the cable is disconnected to listen to the radio in other modes such as DAB and FM.

Earphones (NOT INCLUDED)

  1. Plug the earphones into the Earphone socket on the side of your radio.
  2. Check that the Volume level is not too loud before placing the ear-pieces into your ears.
    IMPORTANT: Do not switch on the radio with the earphones connected and inserted in your ear. Excessive sound pressure from earphones can cause hearing loss.

Languages

  1. Press MENU button to “Settings”. Press ENTER to enter settings.
  2. Scroll through the settings menu to find the language options.
  3. Select which language you require from: English, Deutsch, Italiano, Francais, Espanol.

Factory reset

If your radio fails to operate correctly, or some digits on the display are missing or incomplete, it may be possible to restore normal operation by carrying out a system reset operation on your radio. This will restore the radio’s settings to their factory defaults. No presets will be stored, and the list of DAB radio stations will be empty.
If you have moved to a different part of the country and you wish to erase local DAB radio stations that are no longer available from the stored list, then you may carry out this procedure. Your radio will automatically re-scan for the DAB stations available at your current location when it restarts.

  1. Press MENU to enter the “Settings”. Press ENTER.
  2. Choose “Factory reset”. Press ENTER.
  3. Choose “YES”. Press ENTER.
  4. After a system reset an auto scan for stations will start

Important:
For a full power shutdown and reset you can press the small reset button on the side of the radio. After shutdown. Press and hold the power button until the display powers on.
