Load a Cartridge

• Before you begin, make sure to fill a new cartridge with insulin. Flip to back side for detailed instructions.
• From the Options menu, tap Load. Tap Change Cartridge. Tap to confirm that insulin deliveries will be stopped.
• Disconnect the infusion  set from the insertion site on the user’s body and tap to continue.
• Remove the used cartridge. Tap the unlock icon after installing the new cartridge. Tap to continue.

Cartridge Removal: Place the cartridge removal tool or the edge of a coin in the slot at the bottom of the cartridge and twist to aid in the removal of the cartridge.

• Connect the infusion set tubing to the tubing connector on the cartridge. Tap OK to confirm that the infusion set is still disconnected from the user’s body.
• Hold the pump and tubing vertically to ensure any air in the cartridge will be pushed out first. Tap START. The pump will beep or vibrate regularly while the tubing is filled.
• Tap STOP after three drops of insulin are seen at the end of the infusion set tubing. Tap DONE to confirm.
• Tap Fill Cannula. Insert the new infusion set or reconnect the filled tubing to the site, then tap to continue.

Note: Skip to step 9 if you did not insert a new infusion set or are using a TruSteel infusion set.

• Tap Edit Fill Amount. Select amount needed. See the infusion set instructions for proper cannula fill amount. Tap START.
• After the cannula fill is complete, user may set a Site Reminder. Tap if correct. Tap Edit Reminder if settings need to be changed.
• Tap to continue. A reminder to check blood glucose (BG) in 1–2 hours will display.
• Tap to confirm that all insulin deliveries should resume. The RESUMING INSULIN screen will appear

Filling a t:slim X2 Pump Cartridge

Note: These instructions are provided as a reference tool for caregivers who are already familiar with the use of an insulin pump and with insulin therapy in general. Not all diagrams or screens are shown. For more detailed information on the operation of the t:slim X2 insulin pump, please refer to its user guide.

1. Inspect needle and syringe package and discard any damaged product.
2. Wash hands thoroughly. Wipe the rubber septum of the room-temperature insulin vial with an alcohol swab.
3. Securely twist needle onto syringe. Safely remove protective cap from needle by pulling outward.
4. Draw air into syringe up to the amount of insulin desired.
5. With insulin vial upright, insert needle into vial. Inject air from syringe into vial. Maintain pressure on syringe plunger (see image A).
6. With needle still inserted into vial, turn vial and syringe upside down. Release syringe plunger. Insulin will begin to flow from the vial into the syringe (see image B).

Drawing Insulin: When filling the syringe, add approximately 45 units for the fill tubing process to the total amount of insulin you want available for delivery.

1. Slowly pull back the plunger to the desired amount of insulin.
2. While still upside down, tap the syringe so that any air bubbles rise to the top (see image C). Then slowly push the plunger upwards, forcing any air bubbles back into the vial.
3. If air bubbles are present in the syringe, repeat step 8. If air bubbles are not present, remove the filling needle from the vial.
4. Inspect the cartridge package and discard damaged product.
5. Open the package and remove the cartridge.
6. Hold the cartridge upright (see image D) and gently insert the needle into the white insulin fill port (see image E). The needle is not intended to go all the way in, so do not force it.
7. Keeping the syringe vertically aligned with the cartridge, and the needle inside the fill port, pull back once on the plunger until it is fully retracted (see image F). This will remove any residual air from the cartridge. Bubbles will rise toward the plunger.
8. ake sure the needle is still in the fill port and release the plunger. Pressure will pull the plunger to its neutral position but it will not push any air back inside the cartridge.
9. Withdraw the needle from the fill port.
10. Turn the syringe upright and pull down on the plunger (see image G). Flick the barrel to make sure that any air bubbles rise to the top.
11. Gently press on the plunger to remove air bubbles until insulin fills the needle hub and you see a drop of insulin at the tip of the needle (see image H).
12. Re-insert the needle in the fill port and slowly fill the cartridge with insulin (see image I). It is normal to feel some back pressure as the plunger is depressed.
13. Maintain pressure on the plunger while the needle is removed from the cartridge (see image J). Check the cartridge for leaks. If insulin leakage is detected, discard the cartridge and repeat entire process with a new cartridge.
14. Always dispose of used needles, syringes, cartridges, and infusion sets following community regulations.
15. Flip to the front side and continue with instructions.
