Safety Category Ratings

CATEGORY RATING BRIEF DESCRIPTION TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
CAT II Single phase receptacles and connected loads – Household appliances.

power tools
– Outlets more than 30ft (14m) from a CAT III source
– Outlets more than eOft (20m) from a CAT IV source
CAT III| Three phase circuits and single phase fighting ctcuits in commercial buildings| – Equipment n fixed instaSations such as 3-phase motors, switchgear and distribution panels
– Lighting circuits in commercial buildings
– Feeder lines in industrial plants
– My device or branch circuit that is dose to a CAT III source

The measurement category (CAT) rating and voltage rating is determined by a combination of the meteriest probes and any accessories connected to the meter and test probes. The cornbinabon rating is the LOWEST of any individual component.
WARNING: Operation s Limited to CAT II apps canons when the mutated tips are removed from one or both test probes. Refer to Input Limits section of this manual for maximum voltage ratings.

SAFETY INFORMATION

WARNINGS

  • Please read and understanc this entre manual before using this product.
  • Verfy operation before using tester oy checkng a known live voltage.
  • Use caution on live circuits. Voltages above WV AC RMS, 42V AC peak, or 60v DC pose a shock hazard.
  • Keep fingers away from the metal probe bps when testing voltage.
  • Comply with all safety codes. Use approved personal protective equipment when working near live electrical circuits – particularly with regard to aro – flash potential
  • Do not use tester or test leads if they appear damaged.
  • Do not use the tester near explosive vapors, dust or gasses.
  • Do not use the tester in wet or damp environments or during electrical storms.
  • Do not use the tester if :t operates ncorrectly. Protection may be compromised.
  • Do not appfy vdtage or current that exceeds the testers maximem rated input limit.

PRODUCT COMPLIANCE

Users of th s procuct are cautioned not to make modifications or changes. Doing so may void the comp) ance of this product wth applicable karts and regulatory requirements and may result in the loss of the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
“This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules Operas on is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, inducing interference that may cause undesired operation.”

Ths equipment has been tested and found to comply wet the lmits for a Class B digital device, ptesuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. Ths equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance wit” the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio contemn catons. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful nterference to radio or television reception, wh.ch can be determined by turning the equipment off and at the user s encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

  • Reorient or relocate the receving antenna.
  • Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
  • Connect the ecits;ipiment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to wh ch the receiver is connected.
  • Consult the dealer or an experienon radio/TV technician for help.
  • CAUTION: Changes or modificatons not expressly approved by the party respons.ble for compliance could void the user’s author ty to operate the equipment.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: Observe all safety precautions when working on live voltages. The tester does not detect potentially hazardous voltages below 121W AC/180V DC.

  • Carefully touch the test probes to the electrical contacts or the circuit being tested.
  • The neon lights will indicate the voltage. The brightness will increase as the voltage increases. Use the highest 4luminated range for the correct voltage.
  • For testing outlets. refer to Figure A for removal of insulated bps. (Place tips back onto test probes after testag outlet.)
  • Snap the test probes into the holder on the back of the tester (Figure B). This allows one hand operation when inserting the probes into the outlet.

CARE AND MAIFITENANCE

  • Keep the tester dry. If it gets wet, wipe it off.
  • Keep the tester clean. Wipe the dot with a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use ctiemicads, cleaning solvents. or oetergerts.
  • Handle the tester gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the e.ectronic pats or the case.
  • Use and store the tester in normal temperatures. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of the electronic parts and distort or melt plastic parts.

TROUBLESHOOTING
