MOUNTING CONFIGURATIONS
MOUNTING TO CAMERA
- Turn the tightening ring counter-clockwise to loosen the camera shoe connection, before attaching to the camera.
- Slide the camera shoe into place on the camera mount. Once the mic is in place, secure it by tightening the ring clockwise.
- Connect one end of the VideoMic GO™’s 3.5mm output cable into the output socket on the rear of the microphone.
- Connect the other end of the 3.5mm output cable to the camera’s ‘Microphone In’ socket and secure the cable using the in-built cable clip.
SECURING THE CABLE
- Securing the cable will help to eliminate undesired noise caused by cable movement. The cable can be secured to the rear of the VideoMic GO™, for added strain relief between the microphone and the input of your camera.
- To secure the cable, first ensure that there is a small amount of slack between the microphone output socket and the cable clip, then press the cable into the slot on the base of the suspension mount.
SETTING UP YOUR CAMERA FOR USE WITH THE VIDEO MIC GO™
- The VideoMic GO™ does not require batteries for operation but instead uses the plugin power supplied via your camera’s microphone input.
- For best results with the VideoMic GO™, set your camera’s audio input to the following settings where possible.
AUDIO INPUT: Microphone input.
AUDIO LEVEL/GAIN CONTROL: Manual (when available)
PLUGIN POWER: ON
WARNING
Do not supply phantom power to the VideoMic GO™. Phantom power is the 24-
or 48-volt powering option supplied through professional XLR microphone inputs
on some cameras. The VideoMic GO™ requires Plugin power, which is typically
supplied by default through your camera’s 3.5mm microphone input socket at
around 2 – 3 Volts.
Refer to the user manual supplied with your camera for instructions on adjusting audio settings.

Does this work with Canon 70d? Thanks!
I use this with my 70d and it definitely improves the sound from the basic microphone on the camera. Highly recommend this product.
Can you attach this to a boom pole?
I believe rode sells a boom pole for this mic. You will need an extension cable as well to plug it in.
does this mic record stereo sound or just mono? and does it let the onboard mic record as well or not?
The microphone is a dual mono microphone and thus not stereo, unless you get into the very expensive stereo microphones I think you’ll be pleased with the frequency response and quality. Once plugged in, the onboard microphone is canceled out.
I use this exact rode mic on my cannon t6i and I notice a hissing sound, how do I get rid of it?
If you go into the audio settings, click on Manual instead of Auto, turn it all the way down, and the 4 steps up from the bottom, and then on the mic use the settings of +20dB and High Pass Filter on, it should fix it
will it work on an iPhone 7 if I use a lightning adapter?
With the TRRS adaptor, it works and I would assume it does with the lightning adaptor. You’ll need the TRRS adaptor to plug first then into the aux > lightning adaptor.
Can this be easily connected to a boom?
Yes there is a screw port under the hot shoe mount
Does it work with a Sony HD Handycam?
This mic requires the camera to power it. You will have to check with the manufacturer to see if the mic input for the Sony Handycam can power such a device. The information is certainly available online as well. So just keep in mind that this microphone is not self-powered. It must be powered by the device it is plugged into.
Will this work with a Go Pro?
GoPro: Recommended External Microphones for GoPro Cameras (HERO4, HERO3+, HERO3) – All Rode VideoMic models.
would this work on Canon T3i & T4i?
Yes. I have the T3i and it works beautifully. It will work on any dslr that has a mic in port
