Inspection, points to verify

Petzl recommends a detailed inspection at least once every 12 months.

Before each use
Before installation, check the quality of the supporting medium and verify that the anchor stem is clean. Make sure the glue capsule is not cracked or broken. The resin must have a fluid viscosity.

Check the condition of the anchor: surface degradation, wear, corrosion, deformation, cracks. Check the quality of the supporting medium around the anchor.
Regular inspection of the installation is recommended, in order to detect any corrosion. Near the ocean, inspect more frequently.

During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of equipment are correctly positioned with respect to each other.

Compatibility

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Make sure that the glue is compatible with the rock (see the glue’s Instructions for Use).

For anchor installations on a sea cliff, or in any other highly corrosive environment, the lifetime of the anchor is significantly reduced. It is preferable to use a material with good corrosion resistance so that the lifetime of the installation is satisfactory.

Installing and using the glue-in anchor

  • After cleaning away any friable part of the supporting medium, drill a hole of the appropriate diameter and depth.
  • Clean the hole with a brush, then with a blower.
  • You can use two different types of glue: glue in a glass capsule or a mixing glue gun. See the Instructions for Use of the glue, for its usage precautions.
  • Without delay, push the anchor in until stopped by the ring, turning it at least 10 times to ensure a proper mix. The glue must be visible.
  • Before loading, allow the glue to dry for the recommended period of time.
  • Verify that the excess glue around the anchor is well-hardened and that the anchor does not turn.

Strength
The anchor breaking strength values depend upon the quality of the supporting medium and the quality of the placement.
WARNING: in soft rock, the anchor strength may be reduced. It may be necessary to use a longer anchor and to perform strength tests in the field.

Anchor removal
If corrosion appears around the anchor, if it moves or shows signs of damage, be sure to remove the anchor.
Extraction can be done by simply pulling, or by using a grinder to remove the part protruding from the supporting medium.
