Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record the results on your PPE inspection form: type, model, manufacturer contact info, serial number or individual  number, dates: manufacture, purchase, first use, next periodic inspection; problems, comments, inspector’s name and signature.
After each use

  1. Washing/rinsing
Be sure to always rinse in fresh water if the IGUANE is used in a marine environment. Remove sand if necessary. Wash your equipment with soap and water if necessary  and rinse with clean water.

  2. Checking the general condition Lanyards: check the condition of the webbing and of the safety stitching. Look for cuts, damage and wear due to use and to heat. Be  particularly careful to check for cut or loose threads. Check the condition of the STRING. Verify that the connector/ sling/STRING assembly is correct.
Frame: verify the absence of any cracks, deformation, corrosion.
Connectors: verify the absence of any cracks, deformation, corrosion. Open the gate and verify that it closes and locks itself automatically when released. The Keylock  slot must not be blocked (dirt, pebbles…).

After drying, the IGUANE can be stored. It is ready for a future operation.
Warning: equipment that has been used in an operation must not be placed back in service without an inspection.
    During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of equipment are correctly positioned with respect to each other.

Compatibility

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).
For the litter attachment point, use an EN 362 connector. This connector must be equipped with a CAPTIV bar.
For the rescuer/victim lanyard end, use an EN 362 connector, for example the VERTIGO RL connector.
Before use, always verify compatibility between the IGUANE eye and the helicopter hook.

Ground drop-off and evacuation

For cliff operations, it is preferable to use the LEZARD.

  • Rescuer drop-off:

The helicopter mechanic verifies that the rescuer is correctly attached to the
IGUANE before departure.

Information on standards

  • A lanyard must not be used as part of a fall arrest system without an energy absorber.
Warning: If the lanyard is used with an energy absorber, the total length of the assembly (energy absorber, lanyard, and connectors) must not exceed two meters.

  • If you think there is a risk of the lanyard coming into contact with a sharp edge, be sure to take appropriate precautions.

  • Avoid areas where there is a fall risk.

  • In case of a fall risk, limit slack in the lanyard as much as possible.

  • This lanyard is not designed for making girth hitches.

  • Do not use two lanyards in parallel if both are equipped with an energy absorber.

  • Do not attach the unused end of a double lanyard to the harness; in this case, the energy absorber will not work.
