INSTALLING/REPLACING A WATER BOTTLE

IMPORTANT : Always wash your hands before installing a water bottle. Wipe the neck of the bottle with a clean cloth and do not touch any portion of the dispenser that comes in contact with water.

  1. Ensure the dispenser is unplugged.
  2. Remove the protective cap from the end of the water bottle, unless the bottle has a puncturable cap or sticker.
  3. Lift and turn the bottle upside down, placing it securely on the bottle support collar (A), and allow the dispenser to fill.
  4. Press and hold both dispenser buttons (C and D) until water flows from the dispenser. Drain about 4 cups (1 L) of water before initial use. This does not need to be repeated with replacement bottles.
  5. Plug in the water dispenser.
  6. Ready-to-dispense indicator lights (J) will come on when water reaches optimum temperature and is ready for use. In order to get steaming hot water, the hot water heating switch (K) needs to be activated (see “Dispensing Hot Water”).GLACIER BAY-VWD366BLP-HDC-High-Efficiency-Water-Dispenser-FIG- \(6\)

ANTI-LEAK BOTTLE SUPPORT COLLAR

The bottle support collar (A) on your water dispenser is engineered with a special anti-leak-proof system to prevent accidental loss of water, (flooding) as a result of inadvertently installing a defective water bottle. Not all water bottles are created equal. Almost all 3 and 5 gallon (11 & 19 L) water bottles are recycled and handled extensively during cleaning, filling, and shipping. As a result, they are very prone to developing hairline fractures and pinhole leaks that are not always obvious to the end user until the time of installation.

IMPORTANT: Never knowingly install a defective water bottle on a water dispenser. Return immediately for replacement.

Use these steps to determine whether your water bottle or dispenser is the source of any leaking:

  • Unplug the dispenser and remove the water bottle.
  • Remove the bottle support collar (A) and check the water level inside the reservoir. It should be roughly three quarters full.
  • Add or drain a few glasses of water to achieve the required fill level.
  • Closely monitor the water level inside the reservoir (1-2 hours). If the water level drops, immediately drain the remaining water from the unit and call customer service at 1-855-HD-GLACIER (1-855-434-5224). If the water level remains constant, it is the water bottle and not the dispenser that is leaking. Please contact your water supplier for a replacement bottle.GLACIER BAY-VWD366BLP-HDC-High-Efficiency-Water-Dispenser-FIG- \(7\)

Operation

Dispensing cold water

  1. Place a glass under the cold water spigot.
  2. Press the cold water button (D).

Dispensing hot water

  • When dispensing water for the first time from a new bottle, press the hot water heating switch (K) on the back of the dispenser. In approximately 14 minutes, the red light will remain constantly “on.” This indicates that hot water is ready for dispensing. When the red light switches “off” the hot water heating system is operational.
  • To dispense hot water, place a cup under the hot water spigot. Then push the red child safety button (B) in followed by the hot water button (C).
  • To prevent hot water from being dispensed accidentally and possibly harming a child, the hot water dispensing button can only be operated when the child resistant safety lock (B) is pressed.
  • Upon releasing the hot water button (C), the child safety lock (B) automatically returns to the locked position.

DANGER : The hot water is heated to approximately 194°F / 90°C. Temperatures above 125°F / 52°C can cause severe burns from scalding. DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO USE THE HOT WATER DISPENSING BUTTON WITHOUT PROPER AND DIRECT SUPERVISIONGLACIER BAY-VWD366BLP-HDC-High-Efficiency-Water-Dispenser-

Adjusting the cold water temperature

NOTE : If the dispenser is not dispensing water, there could be a possible ice build-up due to the thermostat being set too cold. If this happens, unplug the dispenser overnight and then reset. Set the thermostat to , slowly increase based on your use and need for cold water

By turning the adjustable cold water thermostat (F) at the back of the unit, (using a fathead screwdriver) the temperature can be adjusted. Turn the dial clockwise between “ ” (cool) and “ ” (colder) levels until the desired temperature is reached

NOTICE: ENERGY STAR FACTORY DEFAULT

  • SETTING : This model Water Dispenser left the factory with the cold water temperature control factory “default setting” positioned for “Energy Star” compliance (identified above). This setting will deliver cold water temperatures between 4°C ~ 10°C (39°F ~ 50°F) The cold water temperature can be adjusted, (using a fat screwdriver) by rotating the adjustment screw clockwise or anticlockwise between “ ” (cool) and “ ” (colder) until the desired temperature is reached.
  • NOTE : Any change/adjustment to the cold water temperature control may affect Energy Star efficiency.

Care and Cleaning

WARNING : Unplug the dispenser before performing any of the following cleaning procedures

CLEANING THE OUTSIDE OF THE DISPENSER

Wipe the outside of the dispenser with a mild soap and water mixture. Never use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and then dry surfaces.

CLEANING THE DRIP TRAY

To remove, lift the drip tray (E) up. Drain and clean. The drip tray should be emptied and cleaned regularly to avoid spotting and any mineral deposits. Clean with a water dispenser cleaning solution (not included) or a mild soap and water mixture. For tough deposits, add vinegar and let it soak until the deposits come loose. Then wash, rinse, and dry thoroughly. Never clean the drip tray (E) in the dishwasher. The tray is not dishwasher safe.

CLEANING THE CONDENSER

Vacuum or sweep away the dust from the condenser coils at the back of the dispenser. For best results, you can purchase a brush designed specifically for this purpose from your local appliance store. This will improve cooling and efficiency.

DRAINING THE RESERVOIRS

Drain the reservoirs before and after cleaning, when going on long vacations or if not using the dispenser for long periods of time.

  • Remove the water bottle.
  • Place cups at both spigots and dispense water from both spigots until water no longer comes out.
  • Place a bucket beneath the drain valve on the back of the dispenser.
  • Open the drain valve (G) and let the water flow into the bucket

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: WHY DO I GET A PLASTIC TASTE FROM MY DISPENSER?
    • As with most new appliances such as coffee makers and kettles, there is often a plastic taste upon initial start-up of the unit. To remove this taste, simply follow the cleaning instructions outlined in the Initial Cleaning section.
  • Q: WHAT IS THE SPIKE THAT GOES INTO THE BOTTLE?
    • Glacier Bay® water dispensers feature a “piercing valve” as part of the bottle support collar, providing added convenience for water bottle installation. Depending on the water bottle supplier, some water bottles incorporate a self-piercing membrane or plug in the bottle cap for this specific purpose (ask your water bottle supplier if your water bottle incorporates this feature). If your water bottle does not incorporate this feature, the entire bottle cap must then be removed to eliminate possible damage to the piercing valve.
