Furnace and Oven Exhaust requirements

Question

  • What are the exhaust requirements for an Oven or Furnace?

Answer

  • Most ovens and furnaces do not require an exhaust installation or connection to operate.
  • Typically the process or load placed in the chamber will determine the requirement or best practice for handling the exhaust fumes created during the heating.

Exhaust Considerations

  • If the fumes created during heating of the Furnace or Oven need to be filtered or captured, a special Fume Hood may be needed.
  • If the fumes created during heating do NOT need to be filtered or captured, many locations will use a general hood to draw the fumes from the oven or furnace installation area to another area or outside the building.
  • Additionally, waste heat generated by the operation of the Furnace or Oven in the Temperature.
  • Controlled areas, such as Laboratories, can increase the room temperature, which some air conditioning systems may not adequately accommodate.

Air Flow Considerations

  • Airflow for an Exhaust Installation is not defined because each location will need an evaluation by a local ventilation contractor.
  • Generally, Furnaces do not have any measurable exhaust flow.
  • Some ovens utilize internal fans to circulate air in and out of the chamber. The Maximum flow through an oven is less than 3.2 Cubic Feet per minute (92 Liters per minute).

Exhaust Hood Installations

  • A Minimum of 3-inches (7.6 cm) space should be maintained between the Top of the
  • Furnace/Oven cabinet and the bottom edge of the Hood, as shown in the illustrations below.
  • The Oven Exhaust Port may be located on the Top, Side, or Rear of the cabinet.ThermoFisher-SCIENTIFIC-Furnace-and-Oven-Exhaust-Requirement-FIG-1

Exhaust Tube Installations

  • A Minimum of 1-inch (2.5 cm) space should be maintained between the Furnace/Oven exhaust port and the bottom edge of the tube, as shown in illustrations above.
  • The Oven Exhaust Port may be located on Top, Side or Rear of the cabinet
