TOOLS NEEDED FOR THIS INSTALLATION
-
Torx T10
-
2mm Allen
-
5mm Allen
-
Felt tip pen
-
Phillips screwdriver
-
Chain tool
-
Light grease
-
New chain, since the Kolossos cage requires a few extra links compared to the stock setup
-
STEP 1:
-
Shift the derailleur to the lowest gear or the largest cog position. With the bike secure in the stand, remove the chain.
-
STEP 2: Remove the rear wheel.
-
STEP 3: Remove the derailleur.
-
STEP 4: Remove the pulleys.
-
STEP 5: Remove the back cage.
-
STEP 6: Remove the rotation stop pin from the front cage.
-
STEP 7: Use the Kogel eTap AXS tool to remove the front cage. Loosen the bolt 1 1/4 turn.
-
STEP 8: After loosening the bolt, unwind the spring tension, then remove the bolt completely.
-
STEP 9: Keep the mounting bolt and spring aside to be reused.
-
STEP 10: Disassemble the Kolossos overized cage. Start with the stop pin.
-
STEP 11: Then release all bolts on the backside and dissasemble.
-
STEP 12: Use the front cage to reset the position of the clutch system in the derailleur body. Line up the D-shape on the pulley cage with the D-shape inside the derailleur body.
-
STEP 13: Once secure all the way set aside the cage. With a felt tip mark identify the flat edge. Place a mark on the rounded face identifing the edge that’s flat.
-
STEP 14: Reinstall the spring in the derailleur body.
-
STEP 15: Install the front cage. Align the spring with the the center hole to set the recommended tension. Use the forward hole (near the rotation stop pin) for higher spring tension and security on rough terrain. Use the backward hole for lowest possible friction: useful for a time trial on smooth surface.
-
STEP 16: Install the nut and tighten it a few revolutions, less than finger tight.
-
STEP 17: Load the spring tension by pivoting the front cage clockwise around the center nut one revolution.
-
STEP 18: Align and engage the D-shape, then tighten the nut to 6Nm. Check if the cage and clutch move freely for operation.
-
STEP 19: Install the rotation stop screw. Tighten to 3Nm.
-
STEP 20: Install pulley wheels. “U” indicates upper pulley. “L” indicates lower pulley. Make sure “U” and “L” are facing outward when mounted on the frame.
-
STEP 21: Install back cage. Use Loctite and install all bolts with Loctite. Torque setting, less than 1Nm
-
STEP 22: Install the derailleur back on the bike.
-
STEP 23: Install rear wheel.
-
STEP 24: Install the new chain over the small ring, smallest cog. Chain length is correct if there is a minimal tension on the cage.
-
STEP 25: Adjust the derailleur position, upper and lower limit and b-tension as per Sram’s instructions.
-
STEP 26: Adjusting the B-tension: the gap between the largest cog and the upper pulley should be the same as Sram’s recommendation for the standard cage. The Sram-supplied gauge will not fit the oversized 14-tooth pulley. Below are the recommended gaps between the top of the pulley and largest cog for each cassette size: 26T: 15mm
28T: 10mm
33T: 6mm
36T: 6mm -
