PRODUCT SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS

DANGER

  • To avoid serious injury, keep hands and fingers away from spinning saw blade. Maintain awareness of the blade at all times.

WARNING

  • ALWAYS turn off your saw and make sure that the saw blade has come to a complete stop before adjusting the setting of any part of the Miter Gauge Fence.
  • Before beginning any sawing operation, ALWAYS make sure that ALL knobs on the Miter Gauge and Miter Gauge Fence have been tightened and the gauge and fence will not shift during use.
  • Always follow the safety instructions from the saw manufacturer.

CAUTION

  • When setting or changing the position of the Miter Gauge Fence for use on your table saw, always make sure that the aluminum Fence Body, once locked in position, will not contact the blade during cutting operations.

Mounting to the Miter Gauge

NOTICE

The Miter Gauge Fence comes configured for use with the miter gauge in the left miter slot of a table saw. To use it with the miter gauge in the right slot, the telescoping Fence Extension and Extension Bars must be moved to the other end of the fence. See Switching Extension to Other Side on page 4. The included MDF Fence Face is 2″ longer than the Fence Body when the Fence Extension is fully retracted. This allows you to extend the MDF Fence Face beyond the Fence Body to provide zero-clearance support for your workpieces as they are cut.

  1. Mark and crosscut 2″ from one end of the MDF Fence Face. You will attach this 2″ section to the Fence Extensions.

  2. Prepare your Precision Miter Gauge (53310, sold separately) by installing the 5/16″-18 x 1″ T-Bolts and 1″ Easy to Grip Knobs that came with gauge in the slotted holes in the gauge’s front face.
ALWAYS turn off your saw and make sure that the saw blade has come to a complete stop before adjusting the setting of any part of the Miter Gauge Fence.

  3. Set the Miter Gauge in the left miter slot on your table saw. Install the Fence Body and attached Fence Extension on the Precision Miter Gauge by sliding the Fence Body onto the 5/16″-18 x 1″ T-Bolts of the Miter Gauge. Make sure that the Fence Body extends a couple of inches past the Miter Gauge on the right at this point. You will set the final position later. Fig. 1.

  4. 4. Working from the front of the fence, insert a 5/16″-18 x 2″ T-Bolt in the mounting hole in the Fence Extension and in the outermost hole at each end of the Fence Body (1). Loosely thread a 1″ Easy-to-Grip Knob on each T-Bolt. Fig. 2.

  5. Slide the 2″ section you cut from the MDF Fence Face onto the T-Bolt protruding from the Fence Extension. Line up the edges and tighten the 1″ Easy-to-Grip Knob to secure them. Fig. 3.
You can make a replacement Fence Face out of MDF, plywood or even solid wood with T-Slot Router Bit (26099, sold separately). The slot should be centered 1″ up from the bottom of the new fence blank.

  6. Slide the remaining section of the MDF Fence Face onto the two 5/16″-18 x 2″ T-Bolts on the Fence Body. Line up the interior end of the MDF Fence Face with the interiorend of Fence Body and tighten the 1″ Easy-to-Grip Knobs to secure. In this setup, the MDF Fence Face will extend about 2″ beyond the end of the Fence Body to provide  zero-clearance support for your workpiece. (Note that the saw will cut a kerf slot in the MDF Fence Face in the process.) You can reposition the MDF Fence Face on the Fence Body as desired.
When setting or changing the position of the Miter Gauge Fence for use on your table saw, always make sure that the aluminum Fence Body, once locked in position, will not contact the blade during cutting operations.

  7. Loosen the 1″ Easy-to-Grip Knobs on your Miter Gauge (if necessary) and shift the assembled Miter Gauge Fence to the desired final position, making sure that the aluminum Fence Body will not contact the table saw blade when in use. Tighten both 1″ Easy to Grip Knobs on the Miter Gauge to lock the Fence Body in position.

Using the Flip Stop

  1. Loosen the 1″ Easy-to-Grip Knob on the Flip Stop and slide the T-Bolt into the top-facing T-Slot in the Fence Boy or Fence Extension.
  2. Slide the Flip Stop to the desired location and lock in position by tightening the 1″ Easy-to-Grip Knob.

Adjusting the Telescoping Fence Extension

  1. Loosen the knurled knob on the Fence Body that locks the Fence Extensionin place.
  2. Slide the Fence Extension to the desired location and lock it place by retightening the knurled knob on the Fence Body.

Switching Fence Extension to Other Side

  • When setting or changing the position of the Miter Gauge Fence for use on your table saw, always make sure that the aluminum Fence Body, once locked in position, will not contact the blade during cutting operations.

Moving the Fence Extension to the other Side of the Fence Body also is likely to require reconfiguring the position of the MDF Fence Face and the position of the Fence Body on the Miter Gauge. The process involved in making these adjustments is outlined in Mounting to the Miter Gauge on pages 3-4.

  1. Loosen and remove the knurled knob on the Fence Body that locks the Fence Extension in place. (Keep track of it; you will need to reinstall it at the other end of the Fence Body later.)
  2. Slide out and remove the Fence Extension and attached Extension Bars.
  3. Remove the four screws that hold the Extension Bars in the Fence Extension. Slide the Extension Bars through the Extension until their other ends are flush with the Extension’s other edge. Reinstall the four screws in the Fence Extension, making sure that they line up with the holes in the Extension Bars. Fully tighten the screws to lock the Extension Bars in their new position. Fig. 4.
  4. Insert the Extension Bars in the slots on the other side of the Fence Body, and install the knurled knob (which you removed in Step 1) in the tapped hole at that end. Fig. 4.
  5. Slide the Fence Extension to the desired location and lock it place by tightening the knurled knob.
