WARNINGS

  • NEVER – exceed the safe working load of the equipment used with the fall arrest / rescue equipment:
  • MGF Davitsafe – 135kg
  • MGF Tripod – 200kg
  • RS-100, RGR11 and Gazelle Basket Stretcher – 120kg
  • NEVER – attempt any maintenance
  • ALWAYS – ensure adequate clearance below operator in the event of a fall.
  • ALWAYS – consider pendulum effect when unit is used in a non-vertical situation.
    If used to arrest a fall, withdraw immediately from service and return to MGF for service and maintenance.

1. IMPORTANT NOTES

  • For the use of MGF supplied equipment only.
  • This user guide should be read in conjunction with all relevant MGF user guides.
  • Ensure potential users are confined spaces trained, familiar with the operation of this equipment and that a site specific safe system of work is in place and adhered to.
  • Users should comply with the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 and HSE ACOP L101 (2009) and the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and (Amendment) 2007.
  • It is essential site specific risk assessments are undertaken and include the operation of the equipment supplied.
  • It is advisable that a trained, competent person inspects the equipment and explains the operational sequence to the user.
  • If in doubt concerning the integrity of any part of the equipment DO NOT USE IT.

2. FALL ARREST RESCUE BLOCKS
You have been supplied with one of the following:

  • RidgeGear RGA4 Fall Arrest and Rescue Block – for use with MGF Davitsafe and Tripod Systems.
  • RidgeGear RGR7 50m Rescue Winch – for use with MGF Tripod Systems/Davitsafe Systems. Please ensure that the product you have been supplied with is suitable for the task in hand.

3. MGF 6 MONTHLY THOROUGH EXAMINATION

  • A thorough examination / test to LOLER of the fall arrest/rescue equipment will be carried out every 6 months by a competent, RidgeGear trained and approved technician.
  • Please return your fall arrest / rescue equipment to MGF for a thorough examination should you have any concerns about its condition or if the test certificate is due to run out.
  • You will be issued with a test certificate to cover the inspection period.

4. VISUAL / FUNCATIONAL CHECK – PRIOR TO USE
A visual / functional inspection of the fall arrest / rescue equipment must be carried out prior to every use covering the following:

  • Inspect all metal connectors, karabiners and hooks for deformation, damage, sharp edges, corrosion, cracks and check that they work.
  • Check the fall indicator hook – if it is showing red, DO NOT USE.
  • Check that the cable extends and retracts and pull firmly to check the lock brake.
  • Retract under control into the unit. Should cable not retract, hang vertically and repeat.
  • Pull out the cable checking for damage and abrasion within the available extension.

5. WITHDRAWNG EQUIPMENT FROM SERVICE
Fall arrest / rescue equipment should be withdrawn from use and passed to a competent person for a detailed inspection if:

  • It is deemed to be defective following a pre-use check.
  • There is no evidence to suggest that the fall arrest/rescue equipment has been inspected by a competent person within the last 6 months.
  • The manufacturer’s identification details are missing or illegible.
  • The fall indicator shows that a fall has occurred.

If in doubt concerning the integrity of any part of the equipment DO NOT USE IT and contact your local MGF depot.

6. RGA4 FEATURES

  • The RGA4 is a 15 metre three way retrieval block, fitted with an up / down winch mechanism and the standard fall arrest capability.
  • The unit can be used as a standard fall arrest block, but in the event of a fall, the operative can be winched up or down to safety almost immediately.
  • The RGA4 has the added benefit of being able to raise the operative to a safe area, if the area below is unsuitable.
  • NOTE that the man-riding rescue retrieval winch function is for use only as a rescue unit and NOT for access / egress.
  • Accredited to EN 360, EN 1496 A&B and marked.
  • Max Arrest Force: <6 kN.
  • Approx. Arrest Distance: 0.5m.

  • Release winch arm by ripping open Velcro fastening.
  • Open the handle by pulling upward (to close handle pull out and push down).
  • Once attached to MGF Tripod or Davit attach hook to the rear or front of harness Dee ring or through eye of suspension straps / lifting rope of stretcher.
  • Following a fall arrest situation or to rescue an injured party, engage winch arm by:
    i) pulling out and holding positioning knob
    ii) pushing in winch arm, ensuring that gears mesh
    iii) releasing positioning knob
    iv) turning handle anticlockwise to lower or clockwise to raise the stretcher / arrested person (whichever is quickest and safest).

10. AB15RT

  • The AB15RT may only be used with appropriate items approved to the requirement of CE certified PPE in line with the requirements of European Directive 89/686/EEC and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • Not intended for use for any other application other than the purpose for which it is designed.
  • Users must read and understand the user instructions supplied with the other items of PPE to be used in conjunction with this device.
  • If in doubt about the compatibility of other items of PPE to be used, consult the supplier.
  • Full body harnesses used with this device must conform to BS EN361.
  • Average arresting force for TORQAB15RT – 5.25kN.

11. STORAGE

Fall arrest / rescue equipment should be stored in a dry clean
