Intended Use
The commode chair is to be used solely as an aid for going to the toilet by people who have:

  • Difficulty standing or keeping their balance

  • Weak legs or lower limb disability

  • Medical conditions that impair their balance
    The use of the toilet support frame is indicated with:

  • Patients with a lack of trunk control, lack of lateral support

  • Individuals with balance disorders

  • People with serious malfunctioning of the lower extremities

  • Individuals who are significantly impaired or have a disability of the lumbar spine, hip, or knee. Any other use is prohibited. Temperature for use: 10–40° C (50–104° F) Max. user weight: 160 kg (350 lb) (25 stone).

Service Life

The expected service life of this product is five years when used in accordance with the safety instructions, maintenance intervals and correct use, stated in this manual. The effective service life can vary according to frequency and intensity of use.

Maintenance should be done at least every six months.

3.1 Safety Information

If you are unable to understand the warnings, cautions or instructions, contact a healthcare professional, dealer or technical personnel before attempting to use this equipment.
  • DO NOT use if defective.
  • DO NOT make any unauthorized alterations or modifications to the product.
  • Make sure that all attaching hardware, screws, nuts and/or bolts are tight at all times.
  • Protect the product against exposure to heat.

  • Accessories designed by other manufacturers have not been tested by Invacare and are not recommended for use with Invacare products.

Setup

4.1 Installing/Removing the Seat Lid and Pail
IMPORTANT
Risk of Product Damage

  • Before removing/installing seat and lid, allow the seat and lid to reach room temperature if exposed to cold. This will help prevent the seat clamps from breaking when being removed or installed.
  • DO NOT use excessive force when installing or removing the seat and lid.

Installing
WARNING!
Risk of Injury or Damage

  • When installing the seat onto the frame, make sure that the seat is evenly spaced between the side frames to ensure proper stability.
  • When installing the seat and lid, install the seat first and then the lid.
  1. Align the grooves A on the underside of the seat B with the commode frame C (Figure 2, page 1).
  2. Push down firmly until the seat snaps into place.
  3. Align the grooves D on the underside of the lid E with the seat and the commode frame (Figure 3, page 1).
  4. Push down firmly until the lid snaps in place.
  5. Raise the seat and lid.
  6. Put the pail F into place (Figure 4, page 1).
  7. Lower the seat.

Removing
****When removing the seat or lid, remove the pail, lid and then
the seat.

  1. Raise the seat B and lid E
  2. Remove the pail F (Figure 4, page 1).
  3. Lower the seat and lid.
  4. Grasp the back corner of the lid and lift up firmly (Figure 3, page 1).
  5. Grasp the back corner of the seat and lift up firmly (Figure 2, page 1).

4.2 Adjusting the Height of the Commode
WARNING!

  • Ensure that the snap buttons fully protrude through the same height adjustment hole of each leg extension. This ensures that the leg extensions are securely locked in position and that an even height adjustment is achieved.
  1. Depress the snap button G (Figure 5, page 1).

  2. Slide the leg extension H up or down to the desired adjustment hole (Figure 6, page 1).

  3. Ensure the snap button protrudes fully through the adjustment holes of the leg extension.
    **** There will be an audible click when the snap button fully engages.

  4. Repeat STEPS 1–3 for the remaining three legs.
    **** Make sure that all four legs are adjusted to the same height.

Usage

5.1 Using the Commode
WARNING!
Risk of falling!

  • The commode seat MUST be installed before sitting on the commode.
  • Users with limited physical capabilities should be supervised or assisted when using the commode.
  • Leg extensions with rubber tips MUST be in contact with the floor at all times.
  • DO NOT stand on this product.
  • DO NOT use as a climbing aid.
  • DO NOT use the product in the shower.
  • DO NOT sit on the lid.
  • The commode does not have a backrest. DO NOT use the lid as a backrest. DO NOT use the upper rear tube (Model 9630 or 9650) as a backrest. The upper rear tube is designed only to hold the lid up.

Maintenance

WARNING!

  • Make sure that all attaching hardware, screws, wing nuts and/or bolts are tight at all times. Otherwise, injury or damage may occur.
  • Inspect rubber tips on the leg extensions for rips, tears, cracks or wear or if they are missing. Replace them IMMEDIATELY if any of these conditions exist.

The product is maintenance-free, provided the cleaning and safety instructions outlined above are adhered to.
Check product regularly for damage and to ensure that it is securely assembled.

Cleaning and disinfection

The product can be cleaned and disinfected using commercially available agents.
Disinfect the product by wiping down all generally accessible surfaces with disinfectant (after disassembling the product, if possible).

IMPORTANT
All cleaning agents and disinfectants used must be effective, compatible with one another and must protect the materials they are used to clean. For further information on decontamination in Healthcare Environments, please refer to ‘The National Institute for Clinical Excellence’ guidelines on Infection Control www.nice.org.uk/CG002 and your local infection control policy.

  • Clean by hand.
  • Clean without scouring agents.
  • DO NOT autoclave.

After Use

7.1 Disposal
When the product can no longer be used, the product, accessories and the packaging materials should be sorted correctly. Please be environmentally responsible and recycle this product through your recycling facility at its end of life.

The disposal and recycling of used devices and packaging must comply with the applicable legal regulations.

Reuse

WARNING!

  • Always have a dealer inspect the product for damage before transferring the product to a different user. If any damage is found, DO NOT use the product.

The product is suitable for repeated use. The number of times it can be used depends on how often and in which way the product is used. Before reuse, clean and disinfect the product thoroughly and check the safety functions, and reset if necessary.
