User Manual
General
Introduction
Thank you for choosing an Invacare product. This user manual contains
important information about the handling of the product. In order to ensure
safety when using the roduct, read the user manual carefully and follo the
safety instructions.
Intended Use
The backrest support is intended:
- for persons, who need support to raise up into a sitting position or who must not lay flat for medical reasons.
- for use on standard private beds in home care and nursing home environments.
The backrest support is NOT intended:
- for children under 12 years age or psychiatric patients.
- for use on electrically adjustable beds.
Service life
The expected service life of this product is eight years when sed daily and in
accordance with the safety instructions, aintenance intervals and correct use,
stated in this anual. he effective service life can vary according to
frequency and intensity of use.
Warranty information
We provide a manufacturer’s warranty for the product in accordance with our
General Terms and Conditions of Business in the respective countries. Warranty
claims can only e made through the provider from whom the product was
obtained.
This manual MUST be given to the user of the product. BEFORE using this
product, read this manual and save for future reference.
Limitation of liability
Invacare accepts no liability for damage arising from:
- Non-compliance with the user manual.
- Incorrect use.
- Natural wear and tear.
- Incorrect assembly or set-up by the purchaser or a third party.
- Technical modifications.
- Unauthorized modifications and/or use of unsuitable spare parts.

General warnings
WARNING!
Risk of injury
Improper use of this product may cause injury or damage.
– Do not use this product or any available optional equipment without first
completely reading and understanding these instructions and any additional
instructional material uch as user manuals, service manuals or instruction
sheets supplied with this product or optional equipment.
Continued use of the product with damaged partscould lead to the product
malfunctioning, causing injury to the user and/or caregiver.
– Check ALL components and carton for damage, and test components before use.
In case of damage or if the product is not working properly, contact a
technician or nvacare for repair.

Usage
Installing Backrest Support
- Place the Backrest Support A on the head end of the bed. The backrest can be used on top or under the mattress depending on the mattress type in use.
- Place motor B beside mattress.
Placing Backrest Support on Bed
CAUTION!
Risk Of Injury
To avoid injury from product misuse:
– Ensure straps are free from slides and other moving parts.
– Periodically check that the tension and placement of the backrest support
straps remains intact. Adjust as necessary.
- Place the first strap A as close as possible to the Backrest Support hinges.
- Place second strap B as close as possible to head end of bed.
- If possible, wrap straps around both bed frame and mattress, then tighten. Be careful not overtighten straps.
Adjusting Backrest Support Angle
WARNING!
Risk Of Injury
To avoid injury due to tripping hazards, and/or entangled, pinched, or severed
cords:
– Ensure that all cord(s) are routed and secured properly.
– Keep all moving parts free of obstruction (i.e. blankets/sheets, tubing,
wiring, cords, etc.) during operation.
- Press the up æ and down arrows on the hand controls to adjust the angle of the Backrest Support.
- Release button when desired angle is reached.
Changing Motor Position
WARNING!
Risk of Injury
To avoid injury from spinning motor:
– Do not rotate motor unit more than one complete turn.
– Ensure cable is not too tight.
The motor can be turned to four different positions:
- Remove bolt/pin A from end of motor B unit.
- Rotate motor B unit to the desired position and carefully replace the bolt/pin A.
Mounting Motor on the Opposite Side
The motor can be mounted either on the left or on the right side of the
Backrest Support.
- Remove the Backrest Support from the bed.
- Using the hand control, raise Backrest Support to the highest position.
- Remove the pivot joint protectors A.
- Place the Backrest Support on side opposite of motor.
- Loosen screw B with 6 mm Allen wrench C. Loosen screw only as much as necessary to rotate arm freely.
- Rotate arm 180 degrees.
- Reverse steps 3-5 to reassemble Backrest Support.
- Reinstall Backrest Support onto bed. Refer to Placing Backrest Support on Bed, page 2 .
Accessory Bag
The optional accessory bag is offered for storing the hand control and power
supply for the Invacare Bedco Backres Support.
Maintenance
Cleaning
WARNING!
Risk of Injury or Death
To avoid electrocution:
– Do not perform service or maintenance on any electrical parts on this
product unless properly trained.
– Do not use water or lubrication on any electrical components.
IMPORTANT!
To avoid damaging the product:
– DO NOT use abrasive cleaners to clean the canvas cover.
- Canvas cover is machine washable at a max temperature of 60°C. See attached label on the textile cover for detailed washing instructions.
- With the exception of electronic components, other parts on the Backrest Support can be washed using a damp sponge or cloth.
Lubrication
If necessary, pivot joints can be sprayed with a silicone based lubricant.
After Use
Waste disposal
Please be environmentally responsible and recycle this product through your
recycling facility at its end of life. Waste disposal must comply with the
laws and regulations pertaining waste handling in each country.
Reuse
WARNING!
Risk of Injury
To avoid injury when transferring the product to a different user:
– Always have a dealer inspect the product for damage prior to transfer.
– If damage is found, do not use the product. Instead contact dealer or
Invacare for service.
