Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Korg dialogue hybrid drum machine. To help you get the most out of your new instrument, please read this manual carefully.

Main Features

  • In addition to analog and digital sound sources with basic drum tones, this product is equipped with a multi engine including Noise, VPM, and User Synth sources, enabling you to make a wide range of sounds.
  • This product is equipped with a dedicated knob that allows you to instantly control the tuning and attenuation of commonly used bass drums, snares, toms, and other instruments.
  • There are up to 128 (16 types x 8 banks) programs that are all rewritable.
  • There are up to 128 (16 types x 8 banks) drum kits that are all rewritable.
  • This product is equipped with a powerful sequencer of 11 parts and 64 steps. Various performances can be created in combina-tion with the loop and chain functions (see the Owner’s Manual PDF for details).
  • Master effects can be used simultaneously with reverb and delay.
  • SYNC IN and SYNC OUT jacks allow you to expand your session setup.

Making connections

  • Connect the dialogue as appropriate for your own sound system.
  • Be sure that the power on all of your devices is turned off before you make connections. Leaving the power on when you make connections may cause malfunctions, or damage your speaker system and other components.
  • DC 9V jack: Connect the DC plug of the included AC adapter to this jack.
  • OUTPUT L/MONO, R jacks: Connect these jacks to a powered monitor speaker or similar device. Adjust the volume level using the VOLUME knob. (Headphones) jack: Connect the headphones here. This jack outputs the same signal as that of the OUTPUT L/MONO, R jacks.
  • MIDI IN, OUT connectors: Use these connectors to connect the dialogue to an external MIDI device for exchanging MIDI messages.
  • Tip: To exchange data with a connected external MIDI device, set the drumlogue’s MIDI channel to match the MIDI transmission channel of the external MIDI device.
  • USB TO HOST port: Connect this connector to a computer, in order to exchange MIDI messages.
  • USB TO DEVICE port: Directly connect to the MIDI controller using the USB cable to receive MIDI data.
  • This port is only used to receive USB MIDI messages. To con-nect to the computer, use the USB TO HOST port.
  • For a USB MIDI controller that consumes a large amount of power, use the power adapter that comes with the controller.
  • A USB MIDI controller with a USB hub function cannot be used.
  • SYNC IN, OUT jacks: Connect these jacks to the SYNC IN, OUT jacks on the Korg volca series, to synchronize with the pulses and steps that are outputted. The SYNC
  • OUT jack outputs a 5 V pulse, 15 ms long at the beginning of each step. Use a stereo mini-cable for this connection.
  • AUDIO IN jack: Connect an external sound source such as an audio player.

Turning the power on/off

Connecting the AC adapter

  1. Connect the DC plug of the included AC adapter to the DC 9V jack located on the rear panel of the drumlogue. Be sure to use only the included AC adapter. Using any other AC adapter may cause malfunctions.
  2. Connect the plug of the AC adapter to an AC outlet. Be sure to use an AC outlet of the correct voltage for your AC adapter.

Turning the dialogue On
Make sure that both the dialogue and any external output devices such as powered monitor speakers are turned off and turn the volume of all devices all the way down.

  1. Hold down the Power switch on the rear panel of the dialogue; once the “dialogue” logo appears in the display, take your finger off the Power switch.
  2. Turn on any external output devices such as powered monitor speakers. Adjust the volume of your external output equipment, and adjust the drumlogue’s volume using the VOLUME knob.

Turning the dialogue Off

  1. Lower the volume of your powered monitors or external output system, and turn them off.
  2. Hold down the Power switch on the rear panel of the dialogue; to turn off the power after the display goes blank, take your finger off the power switch.

NOTE: Once you have turned the dialogue off, wait about 10 seconds before turning the dialogue on again.
Auto Power Off Feature
The dialogue features an Auto Power Off feature that can automatically turn the dialogue off after 4 hours have elapsed with no operation of the knobs, switches, or buttons of the dialogue. By default, the factory setting for Auto Power Off is enabled. The Auto Power Off can be disabled using the steps below .KORG-Drumlogue-Hybrid-Drum-Machine-FIG-4

  1. While holding down the SHIFT button, press the LIVE button to enter GLOBAL mode.
  2. Press the DELAY button to enter the “HW SETTING“ page.
  3. Turn Parameter knob 2, and select “Off”.
  4. Press the LIVE button to exit GLOBAL mode.
    Tip: Settings in GLOBAL mode are saved automatically

Playing Music

Selecting a program

This instrument has 128 programs in total, for which 16 types are individually set to 8 banks from A to H, by compiling a set of rhythm pattern data, drum kit numbers used, effect settings, etc. as a “program”. By factory default, a preset program is assigned to banks A to D, which are rewritable.KORG-

  1. When you press the PROGRAM SELECT button, it enters the standby state to load a program, and the PROGRAM SELECT button blinks.
  2. Turn Parameter knob1&4, and select a program that you want to load.
  3. When you press the PROGRAM SELECT button again, the program will be loaded.

  1. Press the button. The rhythm pattern of the currently selected program is played.
  2. Use the knobs in the mixer section to adjust the volume of the bass drum and snare, and the control knobs to change the tuning.
  3. To stop playing, press the button again.

Selecting a drum kit

This instrument has 128 drum kits in total, for which 16 types are individually set to 8 banks from A to H. By factory default, a preset drum kit is assigned to banks A to D, which are rewritableKORG-Drumlogue-Hybrid-Drum-

  1. Press the KIT SELECT button. It enters the standby state to load a drum kit, and the KIT SELECT button blinks.
  2. Turn Parameters knob1&4, and select a drum kit that you want to load.
  3. When you press the KIT SELECT button again, the drum kit will be loaded. Press the pad to play the drum kit.

Drum Kit Editing

The drum kit of this instrument consists of 13 parts in total, including four analog sound sources (BD, SD, HT, and LT), four PCM sound sources (CH, OH, RS, and CP), sample sound sources (SP1 and SP2) that expand the range of sound making, and multi-sound sources (VPM, NOISE, and USER). You can select one of three multi-sound sources.
Editing a drum kit
You can start making sounds using the initially set drum kit, however, first, try making changes to an existing drum kit that matches the sound you want to create.KORG-Drumlogue-Hybrid-Drum-Machine-FIG-14

  1. The 15 knobs arranged in a matrix form are the basic parameters. Try turning some knobs to adjust the sound to your liking.

  2. To fine-edit, the tone, use the four Parameter knobs under the display.

  3. Use the PART and 1-16 buttons to select a part you want to edit. To fine-control, the parameters of the currently selected part, use the four Parameter knobs and PAGE button.
    NOTE: For details on the parameters, please refer to the Owner’s Manual (PDF).

  4. Adjust the volume level of each part using the PART VOLUME knob.

Saving a Program

We recommend that you save the edited drum kits and programs for this instrument as soon as possible. Any edits that you make will be lost if you turn off the power or recall a different program.KORG-Drumlogue-Hybrid-Drum-

  1. Press the PROGRAM SAVE button. It enters the standby state to save a program, and the PROGRAM SAVE button blinks.

  2. Turn Parameter knob2&4, and select a program that you want to save.

  3. When you press the PROGRAM SAVE button again, the drum kit will be saved with the program.
    Tip: Press the (NO) button to cancel.

  4. To individually save a program and drum kit, turn off the global parameter “Save Kit with Program” setting. For more information, please refer to the Owner’s Manual (PDF).

  5. Never turn off the power while Programs are being saved. Doing so may destroy the internal data.

Rhythm Pattern Editing

  1. Press the STEP button.
  2. While holding down the PART button, press the 1-16 buttons of the part you want to edit.
  3. Press the switch of the step you want to change, and change the rhythm. Each time the switch is pressed, it is toggled on (lights up) and off (turns off).
    Tip: You can change the parameter value for each step by turning the Parameter knob while holding down the drum pad.
    Tip: By pressing the MOTION button, and then turning the knob while pressing the 1-16 buttons (except TEMPO, VOLUME), you will be able to record a motion sequence on each step.

Restoring the Factory settings

You can restore the drumlogue’s preset Programs and global settings to their original factory-set state at any time.

  1. Begin with the dialogue turned Off.

  2. While holding down the SHIFT button and the button, press the Power switch briefly to turn on the power. “FACTORY RESET” will be indicated in the display.

  3. Turn Parameter knob 1, and select “ALL”. If you select “ALL” and execute, all user programs will be erased.
    NOTE: For details on the parameters, please refer to the Owner’s Manual (PDF).

  4. Press the (YES) button.
    The display will indicate the message “Are you sure?”.

  5. Press the (YES) button again.
    The factory-set default data will be reloaded, and the dialogue will be restored to its factory default state.
    Tip: Press the (NO) button to cancel.
    Never turn off the dialogue while data is being loaded. Doing so might damage the internal data.
