Location

Using the unit in the following locations can result in a malfunction.

  • In direct sunlight.
  • Locations of extreme temperature or humidity.
  • Excessively dusty or dirty locations.
  • Locations of excessive vibration.
  • Close to magnetic fields.

Power supply

Be sure to turn the power switch to OFF when the unit is not in use. Remove the battery in order to prevent it from leaking when the unit is not in use for extended periods.

Interference with other electrical devices

Radios and televisions placed nearby may experience reception interference. Operate this unit at a suitable distance from radios and televisions.

Handling

To avoid breakage, do not apply excessive force to the switches or controls.

Care

If the exterior becomes dirty, wipe it with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use
liquid cleaners such as benzene or thinner, or cleaning compounds or flammable polishes.

Keeping foreign matter out of your equipment

Never set any container with liquid in it near this equipment. If liquid gets into the equipment, it could cause a breakdown, fire, or electrical shock. Be careful not to let metal objects get into the equipment.

Product Overview

    Operate the jog switch by sliding it in the direction of the arrow.

  5. Ear cap
    Attach the included ear cap to the GM-1.

  6. Ear clip
    Attach the GM-1 to your left or right ear.

Attaching the device

Open the ear clip, and move the round part on the tip to match the ear onto which you’ll attach the GM-1. Place the GM-1 on the hollow part of your ear around the ear hole, and close the ear clip to attach it.

  • The round part can rotate a maximum of 220 degrees. It will break if you attempt to rotate it farther than this.

  • As this a small and lightweight device, there is a risk that small children may place it in their mouth and ingest it. Keep the device out of reach and store it away from small children.

Inserting the battery

  1. Slide the lid open.

  2. Pull the lid diagonally upwards, and then insert the battery

  • Make sure that the GM-1 is turned off before replacing the battery.
  • Make sure to observe the correct polarity

Turning on the power

  1. To turn on the power, hold down the MODE button until the
    display lights.

  2. To turn off the power, hold down the MODE button until the
    display goes dark.

The display will blink if the battery has worn down. When this happens, replace the battery as soon as possible.

Using this device

Press the MODE button to switch between the setting screens for Tempo ( ), Beat ( ), Rhythm ( ), Volume ( ), and Pitch ( ) in that order.

Setting the tempo

  1. . Press the MODE button to display the Tempo setting screen, and use the jog switch to set the tempo from = 30 to 252 min (BPM). Slide and hold the jog switch to make the tempo continue to change.

Setting the beat and rhythm

  1. Press the MODE button to display the Beat or Rhythm setting screens.
  2. Use the jog switch to set the beat and rhythm.
    Beat: Select a beat from (0 beat) to (9 beat).
    Rhythm: Select a rhythm pattern from (Quarter Notes), (Duplets), (Triplets: ),or (Quadruplets ).

These settings will be stored in the device. However, the settings will not be stored if the device is not turned off in the ordinary manner (such as when the battery run out).

Setting the volume

  1. Press the MODE button to display the Volume setting screen, and use the jog switch to select the volume from “Volume: Low” to “Volume: High”.

This device’s volume has been set to be a little loud, since it may be used when practicing musical instruments. If the device seems too loud, fasten it to your ear at a position slightly away from the ear hole.

To protect your hearing, avoid using this device for long periods of time.

Setting the pitch

  1. 1. Press the MODE button to display the Pitch setting screen, and use the jog switch to set the pitch from “Pitch Low” to “Pitch High”.

Synchronization

The count timing for two or more GM-1 devices can be synchronized.
The GM-1 device that drives the base tempo is called the “source”, and the other GM-1 devices that will follow that tempo in sync are called “replicas”.

This device uses infrared communication when syncing with other devices. Do not use the sync functions around other devices that use infrared light, or around plasma TVs.

  1. Match the protruding part of the GM-1 that will be the source to the recessed part of the GM-1 that will be the replica, as shown in the diagram.

  2. Press the SYNC button on the GM-1 that will be the source.
    When the synchronization is complete, you’ll see the volume shown on the replica’s display

The tempo, beat and rhythm of the replicas will be overwritten by that of the source.

Muting the device

The metronome sounds can be muted.

  1. Hold down the SYNC button. Press the SYNC button to cancel muting.
