PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

CR435BI is a programmable thermostat with weekly programming compatible both in combination with devices with ON/OFF type control and for the remote control of modulating boilers exclusively with OPENTHERM type communication. Before using CR435BI in OPENTHERM mode, it is recommended to check its compatibility with the boiler: BUS communication protocols other than OPENTHERM could affect the correct operation of the system.
This product is manufactured according to the standards EN 60730-1, EN60730-2-9, EN60730-2-7, in compliance with the applicable EC directives and is entirely manufactured in Italy.

INSTALLATION

ATTENTION!
It is recommended that the chronothermostat be installed in strict compliance with the safety standards and legal provisions in force. Before making any connections, make sure that the main switch has been disabled.
The manufacturer is not liable for improper use of the product.
Install the device away from heat sources and drafts, about 1.5m from the floor.
Open the device by pressing the tooth on the right side of the base (Fig 1-A), rotate the front to the left (Fig.1-B) and move it slightly (Fig.1-C) to release it. Remove the internal protection covering the terminals by unscrewing the two screws (Fig. 2-D) and turning the cover to the left.
Fix the base to the wall, using a horizontal (Fig.2, A-A, A-B) or vertical (Fig.2, C-C) center distance.
Select the position of the “jumpers” selectors both on the relay/OT board (Fig.3A) and on the display board (Fig.3B) for the type of operating mode desired (ON / OFF or Modulating), factory set on ON / OFF:
POS. A:ON / OFF relay operation (factory)
POS. B: OPENTHERM modulating operation
Thread the cables through the opening on the bottom and connect them to the terminal block intended for the type of op-eration selected according to the diagram (Fig.3A) then reposition the internal cover by screwing the two screws (Fig.2-D).

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

When the symbol flashes (batteries flat) they must be replaced. To open the device, proceed as indicated in the installation instructions (Fig.1 and Fig.4). Reassemble the cover on the base before carrying out any operation.

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROLS AND OPERATION (Fig. 5)

The commands consist of a ring with four positions identified by the arrows , a central OK key and four additional keys: Menu (Copy), Prog (Paste), Mode, Esc. Press the ring corresponding to the arrows to activate one button at a time. Press the OK button in the center. Use the arrow keys to change the time and temperature values or select options. The center OK button normally confirms the settings.

FIRST START-UP

At the time of first installation, the basic settings must be made. After making the electrical connections, insert the batteries inside the compartment (which must be kept if the ON/OFF mode is used).
When turned on, the device displays the factory-set parameters in sequence with a non-backlit display.
Press to set the operating mode (ON/OFF or OT), then OK
If the ON/OFF operating mode is confirmed,CR435B1 starts the display backlight function. This function is instead available in OPENTHERM mode only in combination with boilers compatible with this function.
Set the clock (Fig. 6)

  • Set the format 24H or 12H with , then OK (standard: 24H)
  • Set the time with , then OK.
  • Set the minutes with , then OK.
  • Set the day with   , then OK.

Once the basic settings have been completed, the device goes to OFF mode.

ATTENTION:
IF THE DEVICE HAS BEEN PREPARED FOR OPERATION IN OPENTHERM MODE, THE BATTERIES WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED AT THIS POINT, PROCEEDING AS DESCRIBED IN THE BATTERY REPLACEMENT CHAPTER.
Once reassembled, the device re-proposes only the clock setting (to be carried out as above) and at the end it switches to OFF mode.
At the first installation and during the boiler ignition and shutdown phase, a few seconds may elapse, necessary both to ensure correct modulation and for the correct acquisition of operating data.

OFF MODE (Fig.7)

The display shows OFF and the clock, the ANTIFREEZE function is active.
Press the Esc key to switch from OFF to active mode and vice versa.
Press the Mode button one or more times to switch from one active mode to another (Comfort Manual, Economy Manual, Automatic).

COMFORT / ECONOMY MANUAL MODE (Fig. 8)

In these modes, the device activates the system regardless of the time settings when the temperature detected in the environment is lower (WINTER mode) or higher (SUMMER mode) than the set temperature.
Press or to modify and store the temperature values(displayed at the top right):
MAN = Comfort temperature (standard: WINTER = 20.0°C / SUMMER = 24.0°C)
MAN ECO = Economy temperature (standard: WINTER = 16.0°C / SUMMER = 28°C)

AUTOMATIC MODE (Fig. 9)

The temperature can be set on three different temperature levels: T1 (Comfort), T2 (intermediate) T3 (reduced) for minimum periods of half an hour during the day and changes automatically during the day according to the memorized time program.

TIME PROGRAMMING (Fig. 10)

Make sure that the clock setting is correct and that the device is in AUTO mode.

  • Press the Prog button to access the hourly programming function: the temperature set at the current half hour appears, with the wording PROG and the digital rider flashing.
  • Press the OK button one or more times to set the desired temperature for that half hour by choosing between T1 (Comfort temperature), T2 (Intermediate temperature) or T3 (Reduced-economy temperature).
  • Press    to move to the previous or next hours and, if necessary, change (as above) the settings displayed for T1, T2 and T3, until the end of the day.
  • Press to select another day of the week (1 = Monday, 7 = Sunday) and set (as above) the desired temperatures T1, T2 and T3 for the different time bands of each day.

To duplicate a daily program, select the day to copy, press the MENU key (COPY function) then move to the desired day and press the PROG key (PASTE function).
It is possible to modify the duplicated program to change the desired temperature settings T1, T2 or T3 (using the central OK button) by one or more periods (selected by moving with the    buttons).
To view / modify the values of the set temperatures, T1, T2 and T3

  • Press Mode to display (and if necessary modify with ) the value of T1
  • Press Mode to display (and if necessary modify with ) the value of T2
  • Press Mode to display (and if necessary modify with ) the value of T3

Press the Mode key once more to return to scheduling.
Once the settings have been completed, press the ESC key to exit the programming phase. The device acquires the set values and returns to the active AUTO mode of operation.
