DESCRIPTION:
Herschel Infrared’s Fan Purge Timer is designed for use with the Vulcan
Industrial heater. It can be used in Single or 3-phase Vulcan installations.
The Fan Purge timer sits downstream of the circuit controller (Contactor,
Thermostat, PIR or PLC Control) and will switch on the Vulcan’s fans when
current is detected on any of the phases powering the heater. When set up
following these instructions, the Fan Purge Timer will leave the fans running
for between 2-3 minutes after current to the heater has been switched off.
The Fan Purge Timer does not carry any of the heater’s electrical load, so
typically only 1 unit is required for each 3-phase circuit. Maximum current on
the fan circuit is 5 amps which should be more than adequate to power all the
fans on the heaters on a given circuit. (Each fan consumes only 20 Watts so 5
amps implies up to 14 x 912kW
units or 28 x 5kW units).
INSTALLATION:
Fix the Fan Purge Timer to a wall by drilling 2 holes 70mm apart; insert
rawlplugs and use 2 pan-headed screws through the fixing centres in the back
of the box to secure the box to the wall.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION:
Remove the 3 blanking covers at the bottom of the plastic box and Insert the 3
cable glands supplied with the Fan Purge Timer into the 3 holes.
Connect a permanent 240V electrical supply to the terminals on the far left
marked “240V IN FAN”) and take out the Live & Neutral Fan Output (Marked “Fan
O/P”) to power the fans.
Connect Line 1, 2, 3, Neutral and Earth from the 3-phase circuit to the
terminals on the far right (Marked “Sense”). For Single Phase installations,
connect the Live lead to the L1 terminal.

OPERATION
IMPORTANT! Before First use, use a small screwdriver to set the Purge
Timer to 50% (approximately 2½ minutes). (Turn so the slot in the timer points
straight up.) The Green “POWER” LED will be lit when electrical supply to the
unit is present (and should therefore always be on).
The Red “STATUS” LED will light continuously when current is detected on any
of L1, L2 or L3 and the Cooling fans will run.
When current is no longer detected on any of L1, L2 or L3, the unit will go
into Purge mode. The Vulcan lamps will be OFF but Fans will continue to run
for 2 minutes. The Red “STATUS” LED will flash during Purge mode.
When the Red “STATUS” Led is off, this indicates both the heaters and the fans
are OFF.
TEST AND VERIFY THE ABOVE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING INSTALLATION. DO NOT ALLOW
VULCAN LAMPS TO OPERATE WITHOUT THE FANS RUNNING.
