Conventions Used in this Guide

This guide uses the following conventions:

Bold Italic     All commands from the user interface. Options, menus, buttons, and dialog box names are bolded, but not italicized.

Example: On the Welcome screen, click Next.

Courier      The path of a program or folder; a web address; a file name or component; text that the user is expected to enter.

Example: The default path is C:\Program Files\Altair\2021.1\PollEx

Make Board Paneling

Make Board Paneling is a function to modify the data designed with a single sub board into an array type to use manufacturing related features such as Metal Mask Manager, Mounting Emulator, Block JIG Generator, Router-Machine JIG Generator and so on.

1. Launch Make Board Paneling

Select Manufacture – Make Board Paneling menu.

When executed the Make Board Paneling, the design file is saved with *.pdbb file through the Save As function.
If not saved the file, the Make Board Paneling cannot be used.

2. Make Board Paneling GUI

(1) Mirror: This option is to create duplicated the original PCB data by mirroring.
– X Mirror: Mirroring the board based on the X axis.
– Y Mirror: Mirroring the board based on the Y axis.

(2) Rotation: This option is to create duplicated the original PCB data by rotation.
– Rotation Angle: Enter the angle to be rotated. The rotate direction is counterclockwise.

(3) Paneling Object Definition: This option is to define the object to be duplicated.
– Component: Option to include components placed in PCB data.
a. Except Component: Option to exclude components from duplicate.

Excluded components can be specified through the String Filter Set Up dialog of Part Name, Reference Name, Package Name and Footprint Name.
– Route: Option to include Route in PCB data.
– Board Figure: Option to include Board Figure in PCB data.
– Board Outline: Option to include Board Outline in PCB data.
– Keep original board’s data: Option to keep the original board outline of PCB data without deletion when the Board Outline option is not selected.

(4) Paneling Object Area: This option is to specify the PCB data area where to be duplicated.
– Select Rect: Option to select the rectangular area as duplicated area.
– Select Area: Option to select a polygon area by user as duplicated area.

(5) Placement: This item is to set where the duplicated objects are placed.
– Move To: Set the X and Y coordinates where the duplicated PCB data will be placed. The origin coordinate of the original PCB data is used as the reference point.

– Object Select: This option automatically calculates the movement coordinates by selecting the pad of the PCB data and the pad of the Bard Board Gerber (Metal Mask) data in an array.
a. Cad Object : Select the reference pad on the PCB design data.
b. Gerber Object : Select a pad object that matches the pad selected in CAD data.

– Array: This function is used when the duplicated data is to arrange with the same distance and angle.
a. dX, dY: Set the X and Y axis spacing of copied sub board.

b. Select Object: This function automatically calculates dX and dY spacing by selecting two parts from PCB design data.
c. Number of Sub Board: Set the number of sub boards to be duplicated in horizontal and vertical directions.
– Add Board: Add the board that set in 1~5 above to the table.
– Edit: Edit the settings saved board in the table list. Select a board to edit from the list and modify the setting in 1~5.
– Delete: Delete the selected board from the list.

(6) Table
– Mirror: Display the mirror status.
– Rotation: Display the rotation angle.
– Placement: Display the placed coordinates of the duplicated board.
– After Complete Paneling, Remove Gerber Data: Option to delete the Gerber layer after completing the array paneling in the case of using Gerber data.
– Apply: Apply to the PCB design data with the saved settings in the table.
– Initialize: Initialize the settings.

(7) Define Panel Outline: This feature is to create panel outline by designating area of the bare board’s location.
– Start Location: Specify the starting coordinates of Panel Outline.
– End Location: Specify the ending coordinates of Panel Outline.

  1. Start Location
  2. End Location

– Line Width: Specify the width of Panel Outline.
– Get Panel Outline from Gerber: This function is to designate the line selected in Gerber data as the Panel Outline.

a. Option

o Add: Option to add the selected Gerber object to the Panel Outline without initializing the existing Panel Outline.
o Replace: Option to replace the selected Gerber object to the Panel Outline with initializing the existing Panel Outline.

b. Extract Board Outline: Set how to extract Board Outline from Gerber data.

o Picking Object Mode: Extract the Board Outline by picking directly from Gerber object.
Certain Width: Option to select all objects having the same line width of the selected Gerber object automatically when pressed All button.

o All object to Outline: Extract all objects of the selected Gerber layer as Board outline.

c. Target Layer: Specify the layer where the extracted Gerber object will be saved.
–  Apply: Apply the outline settings to the PCB design data.
