INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Important information Prior to Installing Roller Blind Fabric Reskins

  1. Take photos or write down. This information is important to successfully complete new fabric reskins.

  2. Make note of roll direction of each existing blind.

  3. Make note how existing fabric is attached to the blind tube. You may require our special double sided tape or a spline of some kind. You can sometimes use old splines. otherwise order our 7mm spline if suits.

  4. Make note how the base rail is attached to existing fabric, remove end cap to see connection. You may require new spline. You can sometimes use old spline, otherwise order our 7mm spline if suits base rail application.

  5. Measure fabric width and compare to skins provided. If rooms are labelled, it is much easier to match skins to documented rooms.

  6. Make a clean space to reskin your old roller blind. It is easier to complete at standing height. You may require clean floor space. Remember fabric can mark easily. A dry spotless area is required. Approximately double the width of the largest fabric skin.

  7. Prepare to clean old tape or fabric off old tubes. Different methods maybe required. A stanley knife or blade maybe required.

  8. Mark tube with masking tape along the length of tube where the existing fabric.
Fabric has finished and mark roll direction on tab of tape. Sometimes the tube also has lines you can use as a guide.

Roller Blind Fabric Reskin Installation

  1. You may require an extra pair of hands

  2. Take down existing roller blind. Take note for when reinstalling. It should be reverse step.

  3. Remove chain control, now roll fabric from base rail end up until you reach blind tube.

  4. Remove existing fabric from blind tube.

  5. Clean existing fabric/tape from tube if it was stuck on. This can be done by hand or may require careful use of a Stanley knife or blade.

  6. Clean Space to start the reskin process and clean hands. You will require roughly double length of longest blind.

  7. Copy existing base rail attachment and carefully slide base rail onto new fabric. Fabric can stay on cardboard tube during this process. Fabric can tare. so take care.

  8. Now roll new fabric around base rail. Make note of which side is front or back of fabric at top of fabric.

  9. Install new special double sided tape on tube or attach old spline back to top of new fabric, if required. In 99% of cases new tape should be fine to attach new skins.

  10. Install new fabric with the fabric on top position of tube. Move the fabric to the front or back of tube depending on roll direction. Remove tape protective liner. Line fabric up with masking tape or tube line on blind tube. Ensure roll direction is correct.

  11. Stick new fabric to tube and smooth new fabric out with your hand. We stick fabric at one end and lightly stick taut fabric at other end. Work your way left to right or right to left. It is important to install fabric square with tube to prevent fabric running off tube during use.

  12. Remove temporary masking tape. Now roll fabric back around blind tube using correct roll direction and install control end.

  13. You can now reinstall your new fabric skin/roller blind using the opposite method to taking down.

  14. Check fabric runs even on blind tube and does not interfere with blind fittings. If fabric interferes with fittings, add small tab of masking tape to opposite end. Slowly check fabric near fittings.

IMPORTANT CHILD SAFETY INFORMATION

  1. Finally: Secure the cord off to the wall or inside of the reveal with a Child Safety Device to comply with the Australian Child safety Regulations. It is required internal window covering ‘must be installed in a way that a loose cord cannot form a loop 220 mm or longer at less than 1600 mm above floor level’.Cord guides—may be installed lower than 1600 mm above floor level, so long as the cord guide will remain firmly attached to a wall or other structure specified in the ACCC installation instructions, when subjected to a tension force of 70 N (Newtons) applied in any direction for 10 seconds and cannot form a loop 220 mm or longer at less than 1600mm above floor level. A force of 70 N is approxi-mately equal to applying a 7 kilogram weight and has been assessed as the likely amount of force a child may exert on a blind cord guide by grabbing, pulling or hanging on it.Solid fixing is required when fixing Child Safety Devices.Double sided tape or glue is non compli-ant and is unsatisfactory. If you are unsure seek professional advice. All blinds require warning labels and our installer labels to be permanently installed. These guidelines need to be followed for child safety compliance. Refer to our child safety page, ACCC guidelines and downloads. These standards are required on all corded roller blind installs. By pur-chasing our product, you agree to comply with ACCC guidelines on all roller blind supplied by Blinds Downunder.
  2. Ball stops prevent blind from lifting to high and dropping to far. Set ball stops at desired heights

ACCC SAFETY TIPS AT HOME

  • When installing new blinds and curtains, make sure you or the installer secure any loose or looped cords—do not leave them hanging down.
  • Go through every room in your home and check for any blinds or curtains with long cords that are either loose or looped. Remember, this includes any cords that are within children’s reach at floor level or near furniture they can climb on.
  • Do not put children’s cots, beds, highchairs or playpens near a window where children can reach blind or curtain cords. The cords can become tangled around children’s necks and strangle them.
  • Do not place sofas, chairs, tables, shelves or bookcases near windows with corded blinds or curtains. As young children like to climb onto furniture to look out the window, they may quickly become entangled in the cords, lose their footing, and suffer strangulation or serious injuries.
  • Accidental strangulation can happen very quickly, so never leave children alone in rooms where cords are unsecured if you’re visiting someone’s home, even for a short while.
  • Some blinds can’t operate properly without looped cords. To keep them out of children’s reach you should secure these cords with either:
    • tie-downs (cleats),
    • tension devices that enclose cords and chain loops.
  • Always fix tie-downs and tension devices firmly to the wall or window-frame so a child is not able to remove them. Never use materials that can’t support a significant load, such as double-sided tape or glue.
WARNING: CURTAIN AND BLIND CORDS HAVE CAUSED THE DEATH OF YOUNG CHILDREN AND MUST BE INSTALLED SO THAT THEY ARE NOT A STRANGULATION HAZARD. FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
