INSTRUCTIONS

LS TECH 1 SINGLE Liquid Scintillation Radon Test

Please read these instructions carefully BEFORE proceeding with the radon test.

DETERMINE AN APPROPRIATE TESTING LOCATION AND TESTING PERIOD

• To conduct a screening test, locate the canister in the lowest livable level of the home- that is, the lowest level of the home that is used, or could be used, as living space (a concrete basement, playroom, family room). If there is no basement, or the basement has an earthen floor, locate the canister on the first livable level.
• DONOT place the device in a: bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, porch, crawl space, closet, drawer, cupboard or other enclosed space.
• Tsekiso should NOT be placed in areas exposed to direct sunlight, high heat, high humidity, or near sump pumps or drains.
• The testshould NOT be performed in severe weather conditions such as high winds, hurricanes or rainstorms.
• Within the selected room, be sure that the device is away from noticeable drafts, windows and fireplaces. The device should be placed donatable or shelfata distance of at least 20 inches off the floor, at least 4 inches away from other objects, at least 1 foot away from exterior walls AND at least 36 inches from any doors, windows or other openings to the outside. If suspended from the ceiling, it should be in the general breathing zone.
• The weskit will cover an area of 2,000 square feet per foundation level of the home.

TEST KITS SHOULD BE EXPOSED FOR A PERIOD OF 2 – 4 DAYS (48 – 96 HOURS)
NOTE: The MINIMUM EXPOSURE IS 48 HOURS (2 days in hours) and the MAXIMUM EXPOSURE IS 96 HOURS (4 days in hours).

PERFORMING THE TEST

1. CLOSED HOUSE CONDITIONS: For twelve hours prior to the test, and all during the test period, ALL windows and doors in the entire home must be kept closed, except for the normal entrance and exit through the doors. Heating and central air systems may be used, but not room air conditioners, attic fans, fireplaces or wood stoves. 2. Remove the white screw cap from the device. DO NOT DISCARD CAP
2. Place the device, open face up, in an appropriate testing location (see above).
3. RECORD THE START DATE AND START TIME ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THIS SHEET. (Remember to circle AM or PM on your start time because the correct time will factor into the final radon calculation)
4. Leave the test device undisturbed during the testing period.
5. After the test device has been exposed for the proper amount of time (48-96 hours), tightly secure the white screw cap saved in Step #2 back on the detector. Sealing the cap securely is required for a valid test!
6. RECORD THE STOP DATE AND STOP TIME ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THIS SHEET. (Remember to circle AM or PM on your stop time because the correct time will factor into the final radon calculation)
7. COMPLETELY fill out all other information (except optional file #) on the reverse side of this sheet. (FAILURE TO DO SO PROHIBITS ANALYSIS!)
8. Place the test detector along with this data form inside your mailing envelope and MAIL WITHIN ONE DAY to the laboratory for analysis! We MUST receive your test canister within 7 days (in hours) after the stop of your test, for the test to be valid. Remember to keep a copy of your test canister ID number for future reference.

THE LABORATORY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVICES RECEIVED LATE OR DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT!
The shelf life of the test canister expires one year after shipment date.
