BLUEBIRD 800 Vacuum Pugmill

CLAY WORKING MACHINERY

INTRODUCTION

Model 800
BLUEBIRD PUGMILLS MODELS 675 & 800

Bluebird’s mid-sized pugmills offer high-quality wedging, reclaiming and extruding capabilities in situations where clay use averages 1000 to 2000 pounds a month. Either is an excellent investment for the midsized production pottery or school/university ceramic department; either also serves as a back- up machine for the larger production potter. While using the auger design and construction materials found in earlier mid-sized pugmills, these incorporate new design features:

  1. Barrel ports to permit the removal of two-part stainless screens for cleaning without removing the barrel.
  2. Horizontal ribbing on the interior walls of barrels aiding clay flow, especially of fine-particles bodies.
  3. Horizontal mounting of components for improved durability and easier access when servicing.

Model 6 7 5 Non-Deairing Pugmill
This model performs the basic functions of pugging and reclaiming clays which do not require deairing. The majority of users find that the 6 7 5 reduces the hand-wedging necessary for most clay bodies.

Model 800 Vacuum Pugmill
Several factors have made the option of a vacuum system worthwhile to many purchasers: wide use of commercially desired clay, varied and exacting fabrication techniques, and time-saving considerations. The Model 800 produces a consistently dense, plastic clay suitable for throwing, hand building, slab rolling or extruding with no additional wedging.

Safety Features

  • Motor Starter w/overload relay Instructional ‘CAUTION’ sign
  • Clay press fully covers hopper – can be locked with a provided padlock
  • Enclosed drive components
  • Complete operating and maintenance instructions included
  • Optional safety switch for shutting off pugmill when hopper is opened.
  • Safety in design, operation and maintenance is a continuing goal in all Bluebird clay equipment. Please remember that safety is a matter of ‘common sense’ and begins with a thorough understanding of machines and proper operating procedures. Any machine is only as safe as the manner in which it is used.

Maintenance

As with all equipment, routine maintenance ensures against untimely breakdowns. Your annual service checklist should include the following: change gearbox oil, lubricate chain, grease bearings, check chain and sprocket alignment, check all bolts and set screws for tightness. Owners of the Model 800 vacuum pugmill need to check rod and cam for wear, lubricate rod and check the vacuum pump per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Extruding
Solid extrusions are possible with a standard nozzle and owner-made dies. Hollow extrusions require a 4-1/ 4″ round nozzle and internal die holder accessory. Manual includes instructions for die-making and using the equipment as an extruder.
