- This manual gives guidelines for the installation and use of the VETUS multifunctional display (CANNME7).
- The CANNME7 displays data originating from the NMEA2000 network.

- Unauthorized modifications exclude the factory’s liability for any resulting damage.

Installation

When connecting the device, please follow the instructions in the following order
positioning
Always position the CANNME7 in such a place that the skipper has a good view
of the panel.
Mounting
Mount the CANNME7 in a flat plate (4.5-12 mm). Make a hole with the right dimensions and mount the screen using the 4 nuts and bolts provided. Use the drilling template provided with the product (see Safety Infor-mation/Quick start guide). Make sure that packaging (P) is not damaged.
Display rotation
The CANNME7 can only be mounted horizontally. The image can be rotated if necessary (0° or 180°), see section 5.2.
Connecting
Connect the CANNME7 to the NMEA2000 CAN bus system. Use the M12 NMEA2000 connector on the back of the device for this. See page 112 for a detailed connection diagram.
Introduction
User interface
The CANNME7 is a multi-touch device, the controls of which are similar to those of a modern smartphone.
- Tap the screen to select a menu or item, start editing or select or deselect a checkbox option.
- Scroll through a list of available options without activating an option or flick to scroll through lists quickly.
- Keep an item pressed to obtain information about the relevant part.
- Keep a point on the screen pressed and drag the map to the desired position.
- With two fingers on the screen, make a pinching movement to zoom out or spread to zoom in.
Keyboard input
When it is necessary to input items using the keyboard, a keyboard is
displayed. To the top left of the text input, a red X icon is displayed, and
to the top right of the input, a blue tick is displayed. Press the UP arrow to
switch to capital letters. Activate CAPS LOCK by pressing the UP arrow twice.
As soon as you have finished inputting text, press the red X icon to cancel
editing and to close without saving the changes. Press ENTER or on the blue
tick to confirm the changes and to close editing mode.
Scroll option
The scroll option is used when a value needs to be entered.
Scroll through the list of values or flick to scroll through the list quickly.
Press the required value to stop scrolling. Press the blue tick to confirm the
input and to leave editing mode or on the red X icon to cancel editing without
saving the changes.
Slider
The slider is used when it isn’t necessary to input an exact value. The slider
is used to input the brightness of the screen or to enter a certain level of
detail.
Press the dot and drag it to apply the desired change.
Checkbox
The checkbox is used to select or deselect an option.
Press the dot and drag it to the desired position or tap the checkbox to
select or deselect it.
Main screens
Three main screens are available: the dashboard, map screen, and the start
screen (@ Quick Access).
Note
When starting up, the last screen used is displayed. Press the hamburger icon
to go to the start screen
Dashboard
The dashboard contains two screen sets. One shows the important parameters,
the other the details of the battery bank
Note
Details are only displayed when they are available via NMEA2000\ and the data
source has been allocated
Note
Switch between the screen sets by sweeping across the screen from left to
right or from right to left, from the black edge surrounding the screen
Map screen
The map screen can be used for travel planning and navigation. Provided that a
usable GPS signal and a local map are available, the map will show the
position of the vessel on the map.
Start screen
The start screen (@ Quick Access) contains the main options and can be
accessed from each menu item by pressing the hamburger menu icon in the top
left-hand corner of the screen.

Title bar
In addition to displaying the date, time, and GPS reception, the title bar
displays the path of the relevant menu.To navigate easily through the menu
structure, this path is displayed in this manual at the beginning of each new
topic.
Main menu Settings

The menu level (pad) will be shown in the title bar. Go a level back by pressing on the back arrow or by pressing the desired menu level in the title bar. Press to return immediately to the main level
The settings menu contains the following items
- The network displays the devices connected to the NMEA2000 network and offers the opportunity to configure the data sources.
- Preferences set personal preferences here or use this option to restore the standard preferences.
- Screens manage the screens and screen collections.
- Limits & Alarms defines the alarm values for depth, speed, no wake zone, electric motor, battery pack, and anchor watch.
- Maps displays the installed maps and offers the option to select, update, or delete maps.
- Vessel parameters define the basic parameters of the vessel.
- Connectivity configure a Wi-Fi connection here or perform an up-date.
- Password provides access to menus for the advanced user.
- About displays the current software and hardware versions.
Warnings

In a warning situation, a message will appear on the screen. If the buzzer is on, the warning message is followed by an audible alarm. Only switch the buzzer off when another audible signal is available.In addition, each warning is stored in the warning list. Warnings are classified on the basis of the effect of the reported situ-ation on the vessel and its passengers.
- Color Classification
- Red: Critical
- Orange: Important
- White: Information
In the case of multiple warnings, the warning with the highest priority is displayed first.

This submenu displays favorite destinations and offers the opportunity to adjust map settings
Screen set selection

The selection panel for screen sets is used to select the active screen set. The Navigation screen set only has a map screen. If a Navionics SD card has been installed and activated, this will replace the standard navigation screen set.
Shortcuts

Press the shortcut for the function you wish to use or wish to switch non or
off
An illuminating pictogram indicates that the function has been activated. A grey pictogram indicates that the function has been deactivated. Some icons open a new dialogue window or screen.
Brightness settings
- Brightness can be adjusted to three modes: (A) automatic, (D) day, and (N) night mode.
- Briefly press A to activate day mode. In day mode, the letter D is dis-played on the right-hand side of the screen.
- Press and hold D to activate night mode. In night mode, the letter N is displayed on the right-hand side of the screen.
- In night mode, the screen’s color scheme is changed to red only, see section 5.2. Briefly press N to return to automatic mode.
Note
If screen brightness is low in night mode, the screen may be fully invisible during the day. Press and hold the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to activate automatic mode.
Settings
Vessel parameters
Note
Set the vessel parameters before first use.
Enter values for the following vessel parameters:
- Minimum safe headroom
- Minimum safe shipping width
- Minimum safe water depth
- Route optimization (time or distance)
- Cruising speed
Preferred settings
@ Quick Access > > Preferences
Set personal preferences for the following items or restore the standard preferences.
Display
- Set the screen rotation, brightness, and sleep mode here.
- By using the night setting, the entire screen turns red to prevent glare during nighttime navigation.
Time and date
- The time and date are received via the GPS signal. To display the correct local time, the correct UTC zone (Universal Time Coordinated) can be set if necessary. The time format (12 or 24 hours) can be set here too.
Units
- Set the units of the individual readings.
Internal buzzer
- Turn the internal buzzer on or off or adjust the volume. A sample sound can be heard to indicate the volume.
Note
Switch the buzzer off quickly by pressing the shortcut on the start screen,
but only do this when another audible signal is available.
Resetting profile
Restore all profile settings to the standard values. The system requires a
confirmation in advance.

The profile settings are permanently deleted by resetting
Limits and alarms

Set alarm values for the following items.
Depth alarm
If an NMEA2000-certified depth gauge is present, two values can be set. One
value for the safe depth and one for shallow waters.If the depth is smaller
than the set safe depth, an orange warning is displayed. If the depth is
smaller than the set value for shallow water, a red warning is displayed.
Speed alarm
Set the speed limit. When this limit is exceeded, a warning is displayed for
excess speed.
Swell restriction zone alarm (No Wake)
The swell restriction zone is a zone in which swell is undesirable and where
vessels must sail slowly. Set the distance that activates the swell
restriction alarm. If the dis-tance is smaller that the set value, a round ”NO
WAKE” symbol will be displayed in the title bar of the screen.
Note
Respect the local maximum permitted speed at all times!

Motor alarms
Warning
This menu is only intended for experts
Motor alarms contain a list of all motor alarms that can be reported by the
motor itself via the NMEA2000 network. Switch the individual warnings on or
off here.
Other alarms
Turn the low battery voltage alarm on or off, or adjust the radius of the
anchor watch (warning position).
Maps
Setting supplier map
Two map types can be used on the CANNME7: OpenSeaMap and Navionics maps.
OpenSeaMap data is downloaded directly onto the device whilst Navionics data
must be installed on an SD card.
OpenSeaMap maps (standard)
Download, select or delete the desired OpenSeaMaps map(s) here.
Navionics maps (optional)
Navionics manufactures electronic navigation maps. For further information,
see https://www.navionics.com.

Navigation

Danger
Do NOT rely on this device as your primary source of navigation! The user is
responsible for the safety of the vessel and its crew at all times.
Use this function to navigate to a specific map position.
Map information
Press and hold the map item or map location to make specific informa-tion
visible.
- Press GO to navigate to the relevant location.
- Press the star to save the location under favorites.
- Press the question mark or an item in the list for further infor-mation.
- Press to close.
Setting travel destination
Select a destination by pressing and holding the required destination location
or select a destination from the saved favorites.
- Press the GO button.
- A dotted line that connects the position of the vessel with the chosen destination indicates that the route is being calculated.
- As soon as the route has been calculated, this is displayed in green. Parts of the route may be colored red. This means that they are lo-cated close to land and additional attention is required.
- Navigation to the chosen destination has now started. The map’s zoom level is adjusted automatically so that the vessel and the destination are visible on the screen.
Adding intermediate route points
- Open the menu for route changes by pressing and holding the route line. Now move the intermediate route point to the desired location and press the blue icon.
- A dotted line is displayed from the vessel, via the intermediate route points, to the final destination. As soon as the route has been calculated, this is displayed in green and the route has been recalculated
- Set several intermediate route points by pressing and holding the route line and adding an additional route point.
Deleting the route
- Open the menu to delete the route by pressing and holding the route line or the vessel symbol.
- Press the red rubbish bin symbol. You will be asked to delete a route. Confirms this and the route will be deleted.
- If the distance to the final destination is less than 0.1 nm, the mes-sage “Destination reached” will appear and the route will automati-cally be deleted.
Travel statistics
Travel log
- The CANNME7 records travel data to provide insight into the performance and use of the vessel. Open the log by pressing the shortcut on the start screen.
- Press the RESET button to reset the travel data or the CLOSE button to close the screen with travel statistics.
Connectivity
The CANNM7 has a built-in Wi-Fi module. This is used for updates, map downloads, and updates.
Wi-Fi access
Switch on the Wi-Fi and select the desired Wi-Fi network. The CANNME7 is now connected.
Wi-Fi configuration
Configure the automatic connection function here if required. If the Automatic connection has been switched on, the device will connect automatically with a known Wi-Fi access point.
Software update
The CANNME7 can only be updated via Wi-Fi. Press Device Update to start the update procedure. Confirm the execution of the procedure and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.
Personalizing the system
This manual is limited to explaining the float box function. A float box is a (personalized) information box that can be added to a CANNME7 screen.
creating a new float box
Select the screen to which a float box must be added, deleted, or edited. Open
the FloatBox shortcut. The previously selected screen will be opened and the +
and x symbols displayed at the top of the screen.
Press x to close the editing mode. Press + to create a new float box. In editing mode, a new float box and a fold-out menu will be displayed. The fold- out menu has the following options:
- The newly created float box contains a single numerical value. Press the value to change it. A new dialogue window, with all the options, will be displayed.
- Add another numerical value by pressing the + and selecting the desired parameter. The full list of parameters is shown in section 11.
- Use the options from the fold-out menu to further personalize the float box.
Editing the float box
- Press the float box shortcut. Now press the float box to be edited until the fold-out menu is displayed.
- Use the options from the fold-out menu to further personalize the float box. Press x to close.
Moving the float box
- Press the float box shortcut. Now press the float box to be edited until the fold-out menu is displayed.
- Press , hold, and drag the float box to the desired location on the screen. Press x to close
Deleting the float box parameter
- Press the float box shortcut. Now press the float box to be edited un-til the fold-out menu is displayed.
- Press and hold the float box parameter to be deleted and drag the contents to the left. The text “remove” will appear. Press to delete the parameter or drag the contents back to the right to stop editing. Press x to close.
Deleting the float box
- Press the float box shortcut. Now press the float box to be edited un-til the fold-out menu is displayed.
- Press the rubbish bin symbol to delete the float box.
NMEA2000 network
The CANNME7 is connected to the vessel’s NMEA2000 network.As a result of this, it can read data from other network devices. The network menu is used to configure data sources, to obtain additional information about connected devices, and to calibrate specific data sources.
Warning
Take particular care when using this menu. Changes can cause the device to no longer work properly.
Connected devices
- This menu shows a list of all devices connected to the network.
- Select a device for more details. At the bottom of the device details is the option to reset the configuration for this device.
- Externally connected VETUS devices may have an option to upgrade the software. Ask your local dealer for further information.
- Select the “Check update” item to edit and follow the instructions provided.
- A physical device may contain several virtual devices which can be presented to the network. You can see these virtual devices if you press the “Virtual Devices” item.
Data source
In this menu, the data sources for the various parameters can be set. Some items are set to Auto Select, which means that the source is automatically allocated on the basis of the connected network device check and change if necessary the following settings:

Calibration of network equipment

Some equipment connected to the network must be calibrated. For example, the motor’s temperature limits and the maximum rpm must be provided
Calibration of the batteries
- If the CANNS500 (battery monitor) has been connected to the sys-tem, the basic battery parameters can be entered in this menu.
Compatible sensors
- Each NMEA2000-certified transducer (sensor) can be connected to the local NMEA2000 network.
Password
Warning
This menu is only intended for experts
A password is used to unlock menus that have not been designed for everyday use and are only intended for experts.
- 02929 – Select your update channel.
- 44441 – System menu. Use the system menu for example to activate demo mode, change parameters, upload debug reports, and test hardware functions.
- 30000 – Dialogue window activation code Use this to activate a func-tion for which an activation code has been received.
- 00666 – System reset. Select the options you want to reset to the standard settings.
Maintenance
- The device does not contain any parts that can be repaired by the user. The maintenance to be carried out is minimal.
Note
To prevent UV damage, always fit the protective cover provided when the device is not in use.
Cleaning the display
- Turn off the screen.
- Switch off the system power.
- Rinse the screen with plenty of clean fresh water to remove dirt and salt residues.
- Use a cleaning cloth to clean the screen. Exert minimal pressure on the screen.
When specks on the screen cannot be removed using the cloth alone, use a 50/50 mixture of warm water and isopropyl alcohol to clean the screen.
Note
Avoid all contact with solvents (acetone, mineral turpentine, etc.) or
cleaning agents that contain ammonia, as these can damage the anti-reflective
layer
Debugging report
In the case of firmware-related problems, it is possible to send VETUS a
debugging report. To do this, connect your device to a network, enter the
password 44441, select Log management and press the Upload logs button
