POSITION PURPOSE

A high voltage electrical technician is responsible for installing, testing, repairing and maintaining High voltage equipment rated and over 5 kv, including overhead lines,
Power Distribution systems and underground systems.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensures proper functionality and diagnose faults on high voltage electrical equipment and systems.
  2. Handle emergency call-ins for Black outs.
  3. Repair and maintain High voltage protection transmission & distribution systems (focusing on Substations, Transformers and Switchgears).
  4. Perform high voltage switching operations, Isolations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, and troubleshooting, power circuit breakers, metal, cables, protective relays, metering circuits, control circuits, and other electrical equipment used in the  distribution of electric power at the 5kV, 15kV, and 115kV voltage levels.
  5. Installs, modifies,connects repairs & commissioning overhead and underground electrical distribution lines,insulators,grounding systems and surge arresters.
  6. Plans, supervises and assists other vendor representatives with the repair of plant equipment as required.
  7. Assists electrical contractors servicing high voltage equipment and subordinate high voltage electricians.
  8. Able to work a 24/7 rotating shift schedule including holidays and weekends overtime in emergency situations, sometimes on short notice.
  9. Know and understand the principle of operation for OMICRON test equipment & and MANTA relay tester; To Perform tip up, tan delta and Turn ratio tests on 13.8 Kv transformers or motors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • High School or Electrical Technical school certificate.
  • Licence or Certification for High voltage Electrician.
  • 7 years experience in the electrical trade.

QUALITIES/ATTRIBUTES

  • Familiarized with EATON, SQUARE D & ABB equipment and switchgears.
  • Familiariazed with NEC.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, engineering standards and applicable regulatory codes.
  • NFPA 40.
  • COMPEX.
  • English level 4.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK CONDITIONS

  • Working on heights, climbing, stooping, wear high voltage PPE, SCBA air respirator.
  • Confined space, hazardous areas and all weather conditions

EQUIPMENT OPERATED

  • Fork lift, Manlifts and cissor lifts.
