Product Usage Instructions

Connecting the TableMike

Connect the USB cable to any port on your Mac or PC using the provided certified USBC adapter.
Ensure not to connect to a USB hub for optimal performance.

Configuring Sound Output

Windows

Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar.
Select ‘Sounds’ then navigate to the ‘Playback’ tab.
Choose the desired playback device for sound output.

Mac

Go to ‘System Preferences’ then ‘Sound’.
Select the appropriate device on the ‘Input’ tab.

Selecting Dictation Range

Use the micro switch on the bottom of the TableMike 3-in-1 or 6-in-1 to choose the dictation range.
The 1-in-1 model offers only the Normal range (Blue LED).

Using Push-to-Lock and Push-to-Talk Buttons

Use PTL and PTT buttons to toggle or activate Dragon’s mic on your screen.
The default hot key for Dragon 15 is NumKey+.
For Dragon 16, set the Dragon Microphone on/off hotkey to NumKey+.

Understanding Dictation Modes

Green LED mode: Long-range dictation (25 cm to 50 cm) with VoiceMatic chipset for optimal performance in variable distances.
Blue LED mode: Normal range dictation (5 cm to 25 cm) ideal for closer dictation and various applications like telephony, conferencing, and recording.

Voice Playback Adjustment

The voice may sound different between modes due to audio processing; run ‘Check Microphone’ in Dragon when switching modes for best performance.

Introduction

Welcome to the SpeechWare USB TableMikes. You are going to be dictating with incredible accuracy and zero latency in no time. Even at long distances. These mics make the diﬀerence between being merely ‘good’ and having a consistently high accuracy. They combine a Shotgun microphone with a proprietary Speech Equaliser (SQ), Pressure or Touch Sensitive buttons, including a Push-to-Lock (PTL) and Push-to-Talk (PTT) to switch on/oﬀ the Dragon mic icon. An optional foot pedal to control the mics for unparalleled comfort is also available. If you are a professional, get the extra 1% to 3% of performance, with instant zero-latency transcription. Dispel any concerns of headset EMR and enjoy the freedom of not wearing, recharging or holding anything!

First things first

Your USB TableMike is unlike any other mike. It has a comfortable Desktop design and it is equipped with the longest available shotgun mic. With the long-range Green LED mode of the 3-in-1 and 6-in-1, you can dictate from several feet away with outstanding accuracy. The normal range Blue LED mode in all models functions like a regular mic.

Note that the 3-in-1 defaults to the Green Mode while the 6-in-1 to the Blue Mode. This can be easily changed by sliding with a paper clip the micro switch on the bottom of the base.

Directly connect the USB cable to any port on your Mac or PC (not a USB hub) using the provided certiﬁed USB-C adapter. The microphones are complete Plug & Play without needing to install an audio driver ﬁrst; another major advantage.

The sound output will be automatically sent through the speaker port of the 1-in-1 and 3-in-1 models, and the built-in high-quality speaker of the 6-in-1 too. To change this default Windows and Mac USB behaviour you can manually conﬁgure it as follows:

Windows

Right-click on the speaker icon in your taskbar, select ‘Sounds’ then the
‘Playback’ tab. For 1-in-1 and 3-in-1 select the internal PC speaker or other as desired.

Mac

Go to ‘System Preferences’ then ‘Sound’ and do the same, selecting the device on the ‘Input’ tab.

First things first

The micro switch on the bottom of your TableMike 3-in-1 or 6-in-1 allows you to easily select between the following dictation range:

Slide the switch RIGHT to change to Blue LED mode
Slide the switch LEFT to return to Green LED mode.

You do not need to worry about these dictation modes on the TableMike 1-in-1. It only provides Normal range; the Blue LED above.

Use the Push-to-Lock (PTL) and Push-to-Talk (PTT) buttons, when available, to permanently toggle or occasionally activate the Dragon’s mic in your screen.

They both release the NumKey+ (lock or press) which is the default hot key for Dragon 15.

With ver. 16, you ONLY need to set the Dragon “Microphone on/off” hot key to this value.

Understanding your TableMike dictation modes

The 3-in-1 model is set to the unique Long-range Green LED mode by default. This activates our proprietary “VoiceMatic” chipset, an industry-ﬁrst Speech Equaliser and Ampliﬁer which is optimised for long and variable range dictation distance (25 cm to 50 cm / 10” to 20”) with normal office ambient noise.
With the micro switch on the bottom of the base, you can also select a Normal range dictation mode (Blue LED). This is the only mode on the 1-in-1 and is the default mode on the 6-in-1. This latter setting is for closer and variable dictation (5 cm to 25 cm / 2” to 10”) with higher ambient noise. It is also ideal for Internet HD telephony, full duplex Video conferencing, Podcasting, Voice and music recording.

It is vitally important you consider how you will be using your TableMike when choosing which mode to use. If you are likely to be a few feet away from the microphone – say, across a relatively quiet room – then the Green LED mode is best, the same is true if you have a low or tired voice. If, however, you are going to be sat at a desk with the mic closely in front of you, use the Blue LED normal range mode instead.

Your voice playback will sound a bit diﬀerent between modes; this is due to the sophisticated audio processing of our VoiceMatic chipset taking place under the Green LED mode. As a result, for maximum ﬂexibility and performance, you should eventually select and run ‘Check Microphone’ in Dragon each time you switch dictation mode – Green or Blue, as explained later on.

Using your TableMike with Dragon

There are a few more steps required to get the best out of your TableMike with Dragon, no matter which model you have. Follow these steps to get oﬀ with the best possible maximum performance.
They are applicable whether you are using the Green or Blue LED setting but are especially pertinent in Green mode as you will be dictating from a signiﬁcant distance to the microphone –not possible with any other desktop microphone.

Audio Calibration

After you have added your mic to Dragon (see right), you will need to perform the ‘Check Microphone’ setup. Dragon will ask you to dictate the short passage of text provided to calibrate audio. Make sure you do as follows:

Start the process but pause for 3 to 5 seconds before speaking. Dragon requires this initial period of silence to determine the ambient noise levels of both your microphone and your surroundings.
Speak clearly in your natural tone of voice. Do not talk too quickly or too slowly and do not raise your voice at all. Do it
“naturally speaking”!
If Dragon reports the audio level is too low (maybe if your TableMike is in Blue LED mode), move close to its tip or eventually switch to Green mode and run the calibration again.
Open the TextEdit (Mac) or the Notepad (Windows) and perform the initial training described on the next page to kickstart your accuracy.

Dragon Professional for MacOS

If you are using an existing proﬁle, select ‘Manage Proﬁles’ in the Dragon menu to add your
‘SpeechWare USB microphone’ (if you like, name it ‘TableMike’) with the ‘+’ button under ‘Dictation Sources’. If this is a brand new proﬁle, Dragon will simply prompt you to add the microphone.
Dragon Professional for Windows
Create a new User Proﬁle or add the mike to an existing one by opening it, In the DragonBar select ‘Settings’ – ‘Microphone’ – ‘Chose Microphone’ – ‘USB TableMike’. Then ‘Check Microphone’.

Initial Training in Dragon

Additionally, you may train Dragon with your TableMike to get the best possible accuracy.
This is especially recommended under the Green LED mode (3-in-1 or 6-in-1 only) where you may be using the unique “VoiceMatic” chipset to dictate at signiﬁcant and variable distance from the mic (25 cm to 50 cm / 10″ to 20″).
Open a new document. For Mac users, this should be in TextEdit; for Windows users, Notepad or WordPad. It’s important to keep things simple and dictate into plain text for now as we are purely focused on recognition accuracy and not formatting at this stage.
Read out loud a thousand words of something you have previously written and dictate to Dragon, but now using your new TableMike.
Then, you must use the “correct that” or “correct ” commands to rectify any words or phrases Dragon may have gotten wrong. Save your proﬁle and exit the program.
Reopen Dragon and perform this exercise again, making sure to correct any further mistakes with your voice and the “correct that” voice command or similar (do not correct via the keyboard).
If there are any unique words or phrases you use in your writing, or anything Dragon regularly fails to recognise, be sure to save them to your vocabulary.
Also, eventually use the “Train” function in Dragon’s Vocabulary Editor so it can learn how you say those things.Your mic should now perform at the highest possible level of accuracy.
Otherwise, use the SpeechWare PhraseWizard optional application to customise your vocabularies even further. Remember, the more you dictate, voice correct, an add unknown words or phrases the more accuracy you will get!

Even More Accessibility

When conﬁgured with the optional SpeechWare Octopus USB Controller, the press of the TableMike volume buttons, any key, USB foot pedal or lever connected to the PC can do any of the following actions:
