Product Usage Instructions
Pre-Class Preparation:
Cut the solid yard of fabric in half (in either direction) and sew it back
together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Press the seam to one side.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Prepare your sewing machine by setting it up with the required needles and presser feet.
- Cut your fabric pieces according to the provided dimensions.
- Layer your fabric with batting in between.
- Select the appropriate thread and wind it onto the bobbin.
- Thread the machine and adjust the tension as needed.
- Attach the Walking Foot or Free motion foot depending on the technique you’re using.

Required Materials
Sewing Machine with the usual parts and notions (manual, foot control, power cord, seam ripper, thread snips, extra bobbins)
- Machine Needles – Any of these: Quilting size 90, Microtex 80 or 90, Jeans 80 or 90, or Top Stitch 90
- Presser Feet – We will be using a Walking Foot and Free motion feet. There are several options for the second kind. (Some are: #9 Darning, #15 Embroidery, #24 Freehand Embroidery, #29/29C Quilting.) You may bring any of these that you have and we will have others in the classroom for you to try out. If your machine comes with a Bernina Stitch Regulator, bring that also.
- Fabric – Two 1-yard pieces of quilting cotton. One should be a solid color, and the other, patterned.
- Batting – A piece of batting to fit your fabric, approximately 36 by 40 inches.
