Instructions for use

GENERAL INFORMATIONS
These instructions inform you about the correct use throughout the life of the product: read, understand and keep those instructions. If lost, you can download the instructions from the web site www.cousin-trestec.com.
The EU declaration of conformity can be also downloaded from our site.
The retailer must provide the instruction manual in the language of the country where the product is to be sold.
This material is according to the norm EN 564 and the requirements of regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment (PPE) used for fall protection.
(*) : product not covered by regulation 2016/425, because it is not concerned by EN 564. Multiple uses in mounteering and climbing, except for belaying and caving.
Ex: 4mm for attaching loads.
5/6 mm for etriers, slings, chocks.
7/8 mm for slings, chocks.
The various components ff the belaying system (harnesses, carabiners, straps, anchor points, belay devices, descenders) must be comply with UIAA label and with European Standards for mountaineering and climbing.

A- RESPONSIBILITY
Activities involving the use of this equipment are inherently dangerous. You are responsible for your own actions, decisions and safety.
If you are not able to assume the resulting risks, do not use this equipment.
Before using this equipment, you must read and understand all Instructions for Use. Understand and accept the risks involved.
Failure to heed any of these warnings may result in severe injury or death.
COUSIN TRESTEC declines all responsibility for damage, injury or death caused by improper use or modification of the product.
This equipment should be used only by trained and competent persons, or the user should be under the direct supervision of a trained and competent person.
The user must be medically fit and capable to control his own security and any possible emergency

B- USE
The product must be used as indicated in this manual and must not be modified in any way.
It must be used with other belay items with additional characteristics in accordance with European standards (EN) in mountaineering and climbing and/or CE approved, considering the limits of each component of the equipment. Some incorrect uses are indicated in this leaflet, but it is impossible to list all incorrect uses.
Check the compatibility of this product with the other elements of the application system (compatibility = good functional interaction).
The cord is a personal equipment.
During its use outside your presence, it can suffer serious and invisible damage.

C- MAINTENANCE
Disinfection: Cleaning in clean water with neutral soap at 30°C maximum and dry naturally away from direct heat.
Temperature: Always keep this product below 80°C et above – 40°C so as not to affect the performance of the product.
Chemicals: withdraw the product from service if it comes into contact with chemical reagents, solvents or fuels which could affect the performance of the product.
If the cord has been wet, in use or by washing, let it dry in the shade, away from any source of heat or direct sunlight.

D- CONTROL – INSPECTION
In addition to the normal inspection required before, during and after each use,this product must be inspected by a skilled person every 12 months, starting from date the product is first used.
Knots should be checked regularly.
Never hide deterioration with adhesive tape.
This date and the subsequent checks must be recorded on the product’s life sheet.

E- INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The following points influence the lifespan of your equipment. The cord can suffer irreparable damage from its first use.
a- Ice and Moisture A wet or icy cord is less abrasion resistant.
b- Knot
Make recommended knots. CAUTION The behavior of a non-recommended knot or an incorrectly tightened knot may alter the performance of the product.
A knock can divide the initial resistance of the cord by two.
c- Sharp edges Beware of sharp edges which could damage the cord.
d- Chemicals A cord must not be in contact with chemical agents, mainly acids which can destroy the fibers without it being visible.
e- Ultraviolet Avoid unnecessary and prolonged exposure to U.V.
f- UHMWPE : on the presence of the material. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, e.g. Dyneema®, Spectra®:
acceptable but manufacturer’s instructions and information require a warning regarding the low melting point (140°C) and low coefficient of friction (slipperiness) of the material.

F- STORAGE
Store the product away from light, ice, moisture, from contact with corrosive or aggressive agents, from heat source and from sharp object which could alter the characteristics of the product (see scrapping).

G- TRANSPORT
Protect the product from the risks listed above.
Preferably use a rope bag for transport and to protect the cord from dirt and limit the twisting.

H- TRACEABILITY AND MARKING
Each rope is accompanied by an instruction for use and an identification label in accordance with the requirements of the PPE Regulation comprising:

  1. The name of the manufacturer. 2- The name of the product.
  2. The month and year of manufacture.
  3. The batch number makes it possible to obtain traceability and to find all the characteristics of the rope.
  4. Read the manual carefully.
  5. CE marking: Equipment compliant with the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and the number of the notified body for annual production control (Module D).
  6. UIAA: compliance with the International Union of Mountaineering Associations.
  7. COUSIN product item code.
  8. eN 564:2023: Technical reference and year of publication.
  9. The diameter (mm), the weight per meter (g/m), the breaking strength (kN).
  10. The composition.
  11. The length (m).
  12. UKCA if the logo is present, this product complies with Regulation 2016/425 on personal protective equipment as amended to apply in Gret Britain.
  13. The Barcode.
  14. The QRcode of the website if existing.

ADDITIONNAL INFORMATIONS

a- Lifespan

  • 10 years from the date the product is first used.(normal use for 2/3 years or intensive use for 1 year).

  • Can be stored for 5 years in good conditions before.

  • The lifespan is understood to be in the absence of causes which would place the product out of order with the condition that periodic inspections are carried out at least once every 12 months starting from the date the product is first used and the results are recorded on the life sheet of the product.
    b- Scrapping: WARNING: an exceptional event can lead you to retire a product after only one use (depending on the type and intensity of use, and the environment of use: harsh environments, marine environments, sharp edges, extreme temperatures or exposure to flames, chemicals…).
    A product must be retired when:

  • It has exceeded its lifespan.

  • It has been subjected to a major fall or load.

  • It fails to pass inspection.

  • You have any doubt as to its reliability.

  • You do not know its full usage history.

  • When it becomes obsolete due to changes in legislation, standards, technique or incompatibility with other equipment.

  • Contact with chemicals agents or the marine environment.

  • A long exposure to UV or humidity

  • A long exposure with high temperature.
    Destroy these products to avoid further use

3 YEARS WARRANTY
This product is warranted against any faults in materials or manufacture for 3 years from the purchase date. Limitations of warranty include normal wear and tear, modifications or alterations, incorrect storage, corrosion, damage due to accidents or negligence, use for which this product is not specifically designed.
