WARNING
The Manufacturer declines any responsibility in the event of abuse and/or misuse of the equipment.
Users are responsible for their actions and decisions in the field.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  • Tape designed to support loads but not to absorb energy in climbing and mountaineering applications. Used as an anchor point to protect against falls from height.
  • The various belaying components (harnesses, carabiners, tapes, descenders, anchor points) must be chosen in accordance with European and/or EU-approved standards and used in full knowledge of their operating limits in progression and in safety systems. They must also be suited to the rope diameter.
  • When a tape is used to remain supported/suspended, never climb above the anchor point.
  • To make a sling, use of the tape knot is recommended.
  • This product must under no circumstances be modified or added to without the manufacturer’s prior approval and any repair must be performed in accordance with the manufacturer’s procedure.
  • The equipment must not be used in excess of its limits or in any other circumstances than those mentioned above.
  • The tape must be protected from sharp edges, falling rocks that can cut the threads, as well as any other mechanical damage.
  • Before and after each use, check the general condition of the tape visually and manually. Replace the tape after a significant fall or as soon as deterioration appears. If in doubt, return the tape to the manufacturer.
  • If there is any doubt as to the safety of the equipment, it should no longer be used until a competent person has authorised its reuse in writing; the tape must be removed from circulation.
  • This product is personal equipment. It may suffer invisible damage in your absence. For better monitoring, when the tape is used by a group, we recommend that you designate a user or a responsible person for each product.
  • The user, in normal circumstances or in an emergency, must be in perfect physical and mental condition to use the tape safely.
  • This product must be used by trained and/or competent persons or the user must be supervised by a trained and/or competent person.
  • In order to prepare for any contingency, a rescue plan must be prepared and put in place if necessary prior to each use.
  • The maximum permissible operating temperature is 80°C for a short period. The melting point of polyester is 260°C and that of polypropylene is 160°C.
  • Abseiling and top roping should be carried out with carabiners or quick links, but not directly on the tape, due to the risk of overheating.
  • The user must consider the tape as defective if there are traces of burns on it, if it is nicked, if there are local abrasions, traces of internal wear, or if it exhibits any other sign of deterioration. Visual and manual inspection is therefore required before every use.
  • If the tape is wet, it loses its strength and is much more susceptible to abrasion. Increase safety precautions.
  • The strength of the tape is reduced by the knots made for use.
  • Under the effect of moisture or frost, the tape becomes more susceptible to abrasion and loses its strength: increase safety precautions.
  • The tape must not come into contact with corrosive or harsh materials or chemicals (acids, oils, solvents) which can destroy the fibres without this being visible.

MEANING OF MARKINGS

  • The tape has marking in the form of a self-adhesive label on its backing indicating the tape reference and its width.
  • CE: Tape that has been examined in accordance with the stated standard and in accordance with regulation 2016/425
  • EN 565 (2017): Standard for tape referring to the EU-type examination
  • 2927: Notified Body for production Quality monitoring
  • Batch number: The batch number provides traceability, thus making it possible to find the tests and inspections as well as the date of manufacture.
  • Pictogram indicating that one should refer to the instructions for use
  • Reported in daN: Breaking strength guaranteed by the manufacturer at the time of production
  • Month/Year: Month and Year of Manufacture

Marking on the Tape:
The tape is marked by means of threads, permitting direct reading of the minimum tensile strength. 1 coloured thread per 5 kN of tensile strength; the colour of these threads is uniform and contrasts with that of the tape. The marking is present on one side of the tape, in the middle. The space between the coloured threads is clearly visible to the naked eye.

LIFESPAN

  • The lifespan of a PPE item depends on the frequency and mode of use. In use, a tape is subject to loads, strains, impacts and many mechanical stresses that tax it. Friction, abrasion, UV and moisture cause ageing and inevitable wear. A tape can suffer irreparable damage on first use, requiring immediate disposal. Be careful and vigilant.
  • The lifespan of a Cousin Trestec PPE item is limited to 15 years, including a storage period and a period of use.
  • Potential storage period, under good conditions, before first use: 5 years.
  • Maximum period of use: 10 years.

Warning:
If the product is resold outside the first country of destination, it is essential for the safety of the user that the dealer provides: instructions for use, instructions for maintenance and for periodic examinations, repair instructions, in the language of the country in which the product will be used.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

The tape should be washed with clean cold water. Any other cleaning technique is prohibited. The tape must without fail dry in the shade and away from any source of heat.
Storage must be in the shade, protected from moisture, frost, UV and away from any heat source liable to impair the tape’s properties.

Important:
If the tape is damp, it must be allowed to dry in the shade, protected from damp, frost, UV and away from any heat source.

PERIODIC INSPECTIONS
Regular inspections are necessary to ensure continued safe use of the product.
Periodic inspections must take place at least every 12 months. These inspections must be performed by qualified personnel and in accordance with the manufacturer’s operating standards.
