Moreover it serves to optimally immobilise the cervical and thoracic spine during and by proper use under the present circumstances. The application is restricted to the pre-hospital care and to the first phase of clinical care. Open wounds, fractures and injuries have to be treated according to the current rules of the specialty societies prior to the application. This product is about a medical product which is only to be used by briefed and regularly product trained skilled-personnel. The type of application follows the current, generally recognized medical directives and recom-mendations of the corresponding specialty societies. Further more the incorporated fleece blanket can be used as emergency warmth blanket.
Material Description
The PAX Rescue-BOA is made of high-visibility yellow polyester with a
waterproof polyurethane coating. It includes an antibacterial fleece blanket
and a specially coated belt strap for hand loops.
Indication:
The PAX Rescue-BOA can be used in order to evacuate a patient with a body
height of 150 cm and more from his environ-ment. The rescue sling serves as
immobilization of the cervical and thoracic spine during the evacuation of the
patient. Another field of application is the conservation of body heat of the
patient. Once taken the PAX Rescue-BOA out of its cover it can be unrolled
after opening the velcro fastener. After this procedure a square blanket
surface with an edge length of 2,15 m appears.
Contraindication:
The PAX Rescue-BOA may not be used when by means of its use the patient could
be harmed more than acceptable under the circumstances. This e.g. counts for
foreign objects located in those areas of the body that would get in direct
contact with the PAX Rescue BOA.
Preparation and application of the BOA‘s use
In order to immobilize the cervical and thoracic spine right from the beginning, it is indicated to have the patient‘s head secured by helper 1. Then helper 2 can take over this immobilization from the corresponding alternative vehicle side as well as from the back seats.
Now the centre mark (tip of
the red triangle in the PAX logo) is positioned in front of the larynx of the
patient by helper 1 and both ends of the PAX Rescue-BOA are lead over the
shoulders to the back.
Also important at this stage is the immobilization of the head to be ensured
by helper 2.
Both ends of the PAX Rescue-BOA are now crossed at the dorsal area of the
cervical spine by helper 1. Now helper 1 pulls open the PAX Rescue-BOA in
order to ensure immobilization of the cervical spine.
Then the ends of the PAX Rescue-BOA are brought to the ventral area and are
lead under the particular armpit to the back. Now helper 1 prepares the spine board (or other
comparable rescue systems). It must be secured from sliding away and has to be
positioned slightly below the upper edge of the seat. Especially with comatose
patients it is recommended to use the PAX-immobilization-hand loop (see
following pages). It hinders the arms drifting apart during further rescue
measures.
Helper 1 now reaches for the
PAX Rescue-BOA through both safety slings so that the hands remain above the
shoulders. The tractive forces to generate now to the PAX Rescue-BOA
immobilize the cervical spine of the patient in such a way that manual
immobilization of his head can be stopped by helper 2.
Now helper 1 pulls the patient onto the prepared rescue device; doing that
helper 2 supports the rotation of the body. In order to lay down the patient
axis-aligned onto the rescue device helper 2 controls and corrects the body
position of the patient during the pulling process. Since a hyperflexion of the
cervical spine could harm the patient attention is to be paid to the patient‘s
head being able to freely slide towards the cranial without being lifted.
When the patient is properly secured to the rescue device the PAX Rescue-BOA
can be loosened. The untieing process is especially easy and quickly to do
thanks to the shape getting thinner and thinner coming to the ends. Fixation
of the wrists from the patient by means of the PAX-Immobilization-hand loop
guarantees a constant positioning of the arms.
Coating
The polyester coating is bacteria and virus proof, flame retardant,
suitable for chemical washing, steam sterilizable, and resistant against
blood, urine, oils, fats, and surface disinfectants.
Fleece Blanket
The fleece blanket is made of 100% polyester with antibacterial properties.
Lifting Sling with Carrying Sling
The hand loops are manufactured from a coated belt strap that is easy to clean
and suitable for wipe disinfection with common surface disinfectants.
Item no. : 12920
PAX Immobilization-Hand loop
In additon to the PAX Rescue-BOA (but also applicable with other rescue devices) the PAX Immobilization-hand loops are available. Especially with comatose patients it is necessary to postion the arms tight to the body. In order to avoid arms hanging down in an uncontrolled way these can be easily fixed with the PAX Immobilization-hand loop.
When locked the PAX Immobilization-hand loop consists of three single loops. Using the loop with the yellow buckle, the PAX Immobilization-Hand loop can be fixed to the patient‘s trousers or belt.
When the loop is fixed the hand loops are positioned below the waistband. Now the hands can be fixed to the hand loops. To do that the loops can be wide opened by means of the belt loops and can be tightened up after positioning of the hand (wrists) in order to avoid the hands slipping out.
In that way the arms can be positioned quickly and safely one after another and the evacuation of the patient can be conti-nued. The belt loops can be easiliy loosened when the loops are not needed anymore. It is also possible to open the loops.
Protection and warmth blanket within the PAX Rescue-BOA
- By removing the cover the incorporated fleece blanket can be used as emergency warmth blanket after unrolling it.
- After washing (see washing instruction) the warmth blanket can be packed into the cover again.
- In the ready-to-use condition the PAX Rescue-BOA is stored in the transport bag.
The warmth blanket shows an upper and bottom side which can be distinguished from each other by the position of the loop and hook tape straps. In order to roll up the warmth blanket again it is unfurled flat onto the floor. The diagonal full-length loop strap marks the upside. Now the lifting sling with carrying slings is hooked and firmly pressed onto it full-length.
Both free tips of the fleece blanket are laid on top of each other. The open tip of the blanket is fixed with hook tape in the end.
In order to put the rolled up warmth blanket with lifting sling back into the cover, the zip sliders are positioned in the centre of the cover. Now the rolled up warmth blanket is pulled through the remaining opening until the ends of the warmth blanket and the ends of the cover do match. After that the zip sliders are pulled to the ends. In doing so attention shall be paid to the warmth blanket not to move. The hand loops of the lifting sling protrude the same lenght from the ends of the cover. Thus the BOA is ready-for-use again. In order to put the PAX Rescue-BOA into the transport bag both ends are lead to the centre of the BOA and then both double strands are furled again. Folded in that way the BOA fits well into its transport bag.
