INSTALLATION

  1. First, pick a suitable location to work. Open the carton and slit the corners. This will give you a protective work surface upon which to start the assembly. During assembly, refer to page 12 for hardware identification. Attach left legs (with open ends) to left side of firebox using two 1/4-20×2″ machine screws per leg. Screws on front leg must pass through firebox and front panel. Secure using 1/4-20 flange nuts. The right legs have closed ends with one screw hole. The screw holes in the closed ends of the legs must be oriented toward the front and rear of the firebox. Attach to firebox using 1/4-20×2″ machine screws and 1/4-20 flange nuts. Do not fully tighten screws.

  2. Place right side bottom shelf (with caster plates) over ends of right legs and secure left side of bottom shelf to left legs using one 1/4-20×2″ machine screw and one 1/4-20 flange nut per leg. Do not fully tighten.
Place locking caster over front caster plate and non-locking caster over rear caster plate so that holes are aligned. Insert a 1/4-20×1¾” machine screw through front-right corner hole in caster, bottom shelf, and into end of leg. Repeat on rear non-locking caster. In remaining holes, secure casters to caster plates using 1/4-20×1/2″ machine screws and 1/4-20 flange nuts. FULLY TIGHTEN ALL SCREWS IN STEPS 1 AND 2 AT THIS TIME.

  3. Insert axle through holes at end of left legs. Slide wheels spacers onto axle, then wheels. Insert cotter pins into holes at ends of axle and bend ends of pins around axle to secure.

  4. With the aid of a helper, stand grill cart in upright position. Attach the cleanout door frame to the front panel using four #10-24×1/2″ flat-head machine screws and four #10-24 flange nuts.

  5. Align hinge holes in cleanout door with hinge holes in door frame. Insert hinge pins from the top and secure with hitch pins.

  6. Slide ash pan into firebox.

  7. Position adjustable fire grate assembly as shown below and lower into firebox. Arms and brackets should be angled up toward front panel. Attach brackets to front panel with two 1/4-20×1/2″ hex-head machine screws through each bracket.

  8. Insert one end of lid stop wire into hole on side of firebox. With the aid of a helper, position grill lid so that opposite end of lid stop wire can be inserted into hole in side of grill lid. Repeat procedure on left side of grill. Helper should continue to hold lid in position until secured to grill bottom in next step.

  9. While your helper holds grill lid in position, secure lid to hinge on grill bottom using eight #10-24×1/2″ machine screws and #10-24 flange nuts.

  10. Inside grill lid, place damper over opening in side of lid so that holes are aligned. Slide a 1/4″ flat washer onto a 1/4-20×3/4″ hex- head machine screw, then insert screw from the outside through lid and damper. Secure inside lid using another 1/4″ flat washer and 1/4-20 reversible lock nut. Do not fully tighten. Damper should rotate easily. Repeat with remaining damper on opposite side of lid.

  11. Remove hex nut from temperature gauge. Insert gauge into hole in center of grill lid and secure with hex nut. Attach one handle end cap to right side of grill lid, with open side facing to left, using two 1/4-20×1/2″ machine screws and two 1/4-20 flange nuts. Insert handle into end cap so that notches in end of handle engage tab inside end cap. The handle’s cooling vents should be facing you when lid is in open position and facing downward when lid is in closed position (see inset below). Slide remaining end cap onto opposite end of handle and secure to left side of lid using two 1/4-20×1/2″ screws and two 1/4-20 flange nuts.

  12. Slide side shelf onto legs and secure to rear leg using two 1/4-20×1/2″ machine screws and two 1/4-20 flat washers. Do not fully tighten screws until Step 13 is complete. Repeat with remaining side shelf on opposite side of grill.

  13. Attach tool hook to side shelf using two 1/4-20×1/2″ machine screws. Repeat with remaining tool hook on opposite side of grill. You may now fully tighten rear shelf screws.

  14. Place the four cooking grates onto firebox. Use the grate lifting tool provided to lift hot cooking grates.

  15. Thread the crank handle into the hole in the front panel. As crank handle is turned clockwise it will raise the fire grate. Turning counterclockwise will lower the fire grate.

PREPARING TO USE YOUR GRILL

Before cooking with your grill, the following steps should be closely followed to both cure the finish and season the interior steel. Failure to properly follow these steps may damage the finish and/or impart metallic flavors to your first foods.

1. Brush all interior surfaces including grills and grates with vegetable cooking oil.
2. Build a small fire on the fire grate, being sure not to lay coals against the walls.
3. Close lid. Position dampers at approximately one quarter open. This bur should be sustained for at least two hours. Begin increasing temperature by opening the dampers half-way and adding more charcoal. Your grill is now ready for use.
Rust can appear on the inside of your grill. Maintaining a light coat of vegetable oil on interior surfaces will aid in the protection of your grill. Exterior surfaces of the grill may need occasional touch up. We recommend the use of a commercially available black high temperature spray paint. NEVER PAINT THE INTERIOR OF THE UNIT!

GRILLING
Charcoal is recommended, however wood or a combination of both may be used as the fuel source for grilling, with the fuel source placed and ignited on the fire grate. Do not build too large of a fire. We recommend starting a fire with no more than 4 pounds of charcoal (approximately 60 briquets) and adding more as needed during cooking. After allowing the fire to bum down, place the cooking grates in the grill. Failure to read and follow instructions for lighting charcoal may result in serious personal injury and/or property damage.

GRILL MAINTENANCE
Frequency of cleanup is determined by how often the grill is used. Make sure coals are completely extinguished before cleaning inside of grill. Thoroughly rinse with water and allow to air dry before using again. Wipe out the interior of unit with cloth or paper towel.

CARE AND CLEANING OF STAINLESS STEEL

Extreme temperatures from charcoal or wood fires will cause discoloration of stainless steel surfaces. Routine cleaning is necessary to preserve the appearance and corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel. The methods below are suggestions for cleaning stainless steel surfaces. Choose a cleaning method appropriate to the requirement. If you choose to use scouring powder or solvents, consult with the solvent manufacturer or supplier before use.
Before cleaning, first test any cleaning product in an inconspicuous location and consider the possibility of scratching and the potential for corrosion caused by not completely removing cleaners. Never use brushes or steel wool as they will scratch and leave particles embedded on stainless steel surfaces, which can lead to rusting. Always rub or wipe in the direction of the polish lines in the stainless steel surface, not across them. Thorough rinsing with clean water is recommended after all cleaning procedures. Dry all surfaces completely after rinsing. Be careful not to let any stainless steel cleaner come in contact with painted or plastic components as damage may occur.

Routine Care
The Char-Broil® Stainless Steel Grill Cleaner and the Thermos® Stainless Steel Grill Cleaner are good choices for routine cleaning of stainless steel surfaces. Mild stains and loose dirt and soil can also be removed with a soft cloth and clean warm water. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry.

Stubborn Stains
Stubbor stains, discoloration and possibly rust and rust pitting can occur from cooking, exposure to harsh outdoor conditions, or extreme cooking temperatures. There are many cleaning agents commercially available formulated to restore the finish of stainless steel. Obtain advice from the solvent manufacturer or supplier when choosing the appropriate cleaner for your requirement. These cleaners can be acidic. Care should be taken to avoid contact with eyes or mouth. Be careful not let any powder or solvent come in contact with painted or plastic components as damage may occur.
