FENDER ANTENNA MOUNT
How to install the Antenna & Mount onto the fender hood of your vehicle
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
MT-ANT-FENDER A/B
V1.0 – 06/2024
Parts List
- 10mm socket wrench
- Adjustable crescent wrench
- Masking tape
- MT-ANT-FENDER-A or -B
- Antenna Cable
Note: The same instructions apply to the passenger side (MT-ANT- FENDER-B), and any car using MT-ANT-FENDER-A with some variations.
Preparing to Mount the Antenna
Step 1
Before proceeding with the instructions further, make sure to complete feeding
the antenna cable (NMO-MT-15) from under the hood of the car to alongside the
edge of the hood and through the hood-support as shown. Be careful not to
pinch cable or have cable be tangled or caught in corners or pinch points in
the car
Tip: Use Rugged Radios Reusable Cable Tie R-Wrap to help secure the cable
into a safe position (PN#: R-WRAP-6).
Refrain from using any plastic zip-ties on cables to avoid pinching or
damage.
Step 2
This step is optional, but can be helpful to preventing damage to the vehicle.
Cover the corner area of your vehicle with masking tape as shown to protect
your car surface from damage while performing installation.
Step 3
Before proceeding, a slot in the rubber lining between the window and the car
may need to be cut to fit the MT-ANT-FENDER; if so, continue to follow this
step. First, lift the rubber lining to find the bolt in the crevice (between
the window and the body of the car). Next, cut out a piece with scissors or a
knife enough so that the width of the cut should fit the width of the MT-ANT-
FENDER around the located bolt. It is better to cut in small quantities and
adjust the size slightly to accommodate the mount and still be able to have
the rubber lining seal around it. See images below for reference.
Installing the Antenna Mount
Step 4
To install the mount, first remove the bolt and washer from the car using a
10mm socket wrench. Different car models may utilize different socket
sizes.
Step 5
Place the bolt in the bottom slot of the MT-ANT-FENDER and fit the MT-ANT-
FENDER over the bolt hole (see images for reference). It is important that the
opening of the bracket slot should face outward. Make sure the rubber lining
fits around the edges of the bottom of MT-ANT-FENDER.
Step 6
Then, screw back in the bolt and washer (from the car), into the car with the
MT-ANT-FENDER on until secure.
Connecting the Antenna & Cable to the Mount
Step 7
Next, remove the threaded washer and spacer from the end of antenna cable. It
is important to make sure the plastic spacer stays on the inside of the
threaded washer.
Step 8
Feed the bolt end of the antenna cable through the bottom of the top hole of
MT-ANT-FENDER (see image 1 below). Place, and screw on the threaded washer on
the top of MT-ANT-FENDER, with the washer facing/resting on MT-ANT-FENDER (see
image 2 below). Use an adjustable crescent wrench (see image 3 below) to
gently tighten the threaded washer down, careful not to overtighten, as this
can destroy the threads on the washer.
Note : Tighten carefully!
Step 9
Lastly, take your antenna, and screw it on manually on top of the threaded
washer
Note: Be careful not to over tighten as this might break the threads on
the washer
Step 10
Finally, remove any masking tape on the car and clean up the cable layout with
cable ties (R-WRAP-6). Your antenna installment is now complete.
Now it’s time to test. It’s always best to check performance in an outdoor,
open area. Turn on the radio system. Check system operation and set VOLUME.
Once all devices are on and functioning properly, re-check with the engine
running. At idle and revved up. If any electrical noises are heard, check for
proper connections. If noises persist, or if you have any other questions, our
team is ready to help. ![RUGGED RADIOS MT ANT FENDER A B Fender Antenna Mount
