Operation of the device
Installation
- Make sure your home electric network is providing a voltage between 110 and 240V.
- Use the included power cable to plug the device into a power outlet.
- Wait for the power button to light up in red.
Switching on the device
First, connect the amplifier’s power supply connector (16) to a power outlet
using the supplied power cable. Press the power button (18). The LED on the
ON/OFF button (1) will light up red. Press the ON/OFF button (1) on the unit
or the ON/OFF button (19) on the remote control. The amplifier is now switched
on.
Display : preamplifier mode
After powering up, AP310-P250NC display will show its preamplifier mode.
-
Current input
Displays which input is currently active. Possible values are :- XLR
- Line1
- Line2
- Line3
- Line4 (bypass, please read the dedicated section before using this input)
-
Trigger input status
Displays “EXT” if a (powered) line is connected to the trigger in connector. -
Gain (+) or attenuation (-)
- Displays “+” (plus sign) when the preamplifier is in gain mode.
- Displays “-” (minus sign) when the preamplifier is in attenuation mode.
-
Gain attenuation value
Displays the amount of gain/attenuation applied to the signal in decibels.
Enable / Disable the mute mode
When the AP310-P250NC is switched on and in preamplifier mode, to mute it,
briefly press the power button (1) on the front panel, or press the mute button
(30) on the remote control. The display then shows “MUTE” instead of the
decibel value to confirm that the unit has been muted.
Input selection
When the AP310-P250NC is switched on and in preamplifier mode, to select an
input source, short press the “input” button (2) on the front panel or the
“input” button (20) on the remote control. With the remote control, you can
also use the up (22) and down (26) navigation arrows to change the input
source.
Adjusting the volume
The AP310-P250NC’s volume attenuation can be adjusted over a range from -90dB
to +6dB. Volume control is in 1dB steps between -90dB and -25dB, and in 0.5dB
steps between -25dB and +6dB. To increase the volume, turn the volume knob (5)
clockwise, or press the Volume + button (29) on the remote control. To
decrease volume, turn the volume knob (5) counter-clockwise, or press the
Volume – button (28) on the remote control. The display (4) shows the current
volume level in dB.
With most 2V RMS sources (depending on speaker sensitivity):
- -90dB is not audible
- -50dB is a low level
- -30dB is a medium listening level
- -20dB will start to sound loud
The volume value is saved when powering the device off. However for security reasons, the saved volume value is capped at -20dB
- Note 1 : The “+” sign means the preamplifier applying gain to the signal, whereas the “-” sign means the preamplifier is applying attenuation to the signal.
- Note 2 : you can set a maximum volume (see the limit section in setting mode).
Trigger usage
The AP310-P250NC incorporates a trigger input (12) and trigger output (13) operating over a 5-12VDC range. These can be connected to the trigger inputs and outputs of other devices to set up a chain that automatically switches your audio system on when a signal is received and off when no signal is detected. The trigger on the other device and the cable used to make the connection must be mono.
-
Trigger input
-
Trigger output
The trigger output is set high as soon as the AP310-P250NC exits stand-by mode.
Avoid connecting or disconnecting the trigger output when the device is powered as it may lead to unexpected behaviour.
Use of Line 4 input (Bypass)
- The LINE4 input completely bypasses the preamplifier stage. With this input active, no boost nor attenuation is applied to the audio signal before being fed to the amplifier.
- The source used with the LINE4 input MUST have its own volume control.
- Do NOT use a source without volume control on LINE4 or the full amplified signal may damage your speakers.
- This special input has been designed to use the product as a power amplifier. It allows you ton control the volume from an external preamplifier (such as an AV receiver). This means you can use the AP310-P250NC for home cinema and Hi-Fi setups.
Éteindre apparel
Long press the ON/OFF button (1) on the front panel of the device or press the
ON/OFF button on the remote control to put the AP310-S250NC into stand-by mode
(Power Led is red).
-
Note 1 : if the trigger input status shows “EXT”, it means that the trigger input is high and the AP310-P250NC cannot enter stand-by mode.
You need to set the trigger input to low by shutting down the source device connected to the trigger input, before you can make the AP310-P250NC enter stand-by mode. -
Note 2 : If the trigger input caused the AP310-P250NC to power up in the first place, setting the trigger input to low will force stand-by mode. (see trigger input section in this manual)
