Product Usage Instructions
Installing Rubber Crumb Surface:
- Prepare the base layer with existing Concrete, Stone, or MOT Type one (100mm).
- Install edging to contain the material.
- Place a weed membrane.
- Fill with 100-150mm of type 1 MOT and compact using a Vibrating whacker plate.
- Mix the rubber crumb and resin in a forced action pan mixer.
- Weigh the rubber and calculate 20% of the weight for resin.
- Mix rubber and resin until evenly coated.
- Pour the mix into a wheelbarrow lined with plastic sheet.
- Trowel the mix to a 50mm depth on the prepared base, lubricating the trowel to prevent sticking.
- Allow to cure for 4-6 hours.
Installing Coloured EPDM Kits:
- Follow the steps above for the base layer installation.
- Lay the 2-6mm Rubber crumb base layer at a depth of 40mm.
- Ensure a level surface before applying the top 10mm EPDM coloured wear surface.
- Apply EPDM and resin mix in 1m deep strips using edging guides.
- Level the material with a lubricated straight edge and finish with a trowel for smoothness.
- Cure for 4-6 hours, allowing the surface to fully cure for 24 hours before use.
Rubber Crumb should be mixed at a ratio of 20% Resin to Rubber Crumb.
Example : 25KG bag of rubber mixed with 5KG of Resin.
Surface Preparation:
- The mixed Rubber and Resin compound should be laid onto a suitable base such as existing Concrete, Stone or MOT Type one (100MM Base layer advisable).
- This can then be trowelled out and tampered down to create a smooth finish.
Note : Trowel Lubricant should be used to make the process easier and reduce rubber sticking to the Trowel.
For 50mm Deep rubber surface:
- Dig down 150mm – 200mm depending on the strength of base required & make sure the surface has been compacted using a Vibrating whacker plate.
- Install your edging choice of edging, this will hold the material inside.
- Install the Weed membrane.
- Fill with 100-150mm of type 1 MOT and compact using a Vibrating whacker plate.
- Using a forced action pan mixer (preferably) or other type of mixer pour the 2-6mm rubber crumb into the mixer so it can operate without spilling any crumb and leave some room for the additional resin.
- Empty the mixer into a container and weigh the rubber. Multiply the weight in Kgs by 0.20 , this will give you the weight of Resin needed to add to the mix.
- Put the weighed rubber back into the mixer and start rotating, then add the Resin at the weight you have just calculated. (20%) – for example a 25 Kg bag will require 5 kgs of resin.
- Allow the rubber and resin to mix for several minutes (2-3) or until evenly coated with resin.
- Line a wheel barrow with some Plastic sheet and tape or tie it around the outside.
- Once fully mixed, pour the contents of the mixer into the Wheel barrow and take it to the area you are working on.
- Starting from the corner furthest away from you and making sure you wont get backed into a corner pour the rubber & resin mix out and begin trowelling the rubber to the 50mm depth required ensuring you keep lubricating your trowell as you go to avoid the rubber sticking to the trowell .
- The mixed Rubber and Resin compound should be laid onto a suitable base such as existing Concrete, Stone or MOT Type one (100MM Base layer advisable).
- This can then be trowelled out and tampered down to create a smooth finish.
Note: Trowel Lubricant should be used to make the process easier and reduce rubber sticking to the Trowel.
ECO Kids Rubber Playground DIY Kit
Colored EPDM DIY Kits
For the coloured EPDM kits follow the instructions above for the base first:
- First, install the 2-6mm Rubber crumb as the rubber base layer at a depth of 40mm, ensure the surface is level and has no high or low points.
- Once the base has dried you can start laying the top 10mm EPDM coloured wear surface.
- Using 10mm deep edging guides you should start applying the EPDM and resin mix in 1M deep strips, this way you can have a 10mm guide on all sides and use a lubricated straight edge to level the material before finishing with a trowel to ensure a smooth finish.
- Keep working in 1M deep strips until the area has been fully covered making sure there are no visible seems. All rubber and resin should cure in around 4-6 Hours; Allow the surface to fully cure for 24 hours before using.
FAQ
Q: Can I use a different type of mixer for mixing the rubber crumb and
resin?
A: While a forced action pan mixer is preferred, you can use other types of
mixers as long as they can handle the material without spilling.
Q: How long should I wait before using the surface after installation?
A: The rubber and resin should cure in around 4-6 hours, but it is recommended
to allow a full 24 hours for complete curing before use.
