HARDWARE CONTROLS

  1. Color Switch – Selects which transformer converts the signal to affect tone color.

  2. Phase Inversion Switch – Engages an 180° phase inversion on the output.

  3. Ground Lift Switch – Engages the ground lift, isolating output ground from chassis ground.
Useful for reducing hum caused by ground loops.

  4. Level Control – Adjusts the output level from infinity (mute) to +4dB above source input.

  5. Input XLR – Balanced +4 dB line level input signal.

  6. Thru/Input|1/4” TS – Balanced +4 dB ‘convenience’ TRS input. Also works as a through-put to daisy chain another device.

  7. Output 1/4” TS – Unbalanced, transformer isolated instrument output.

CONNECTIONS AND OPERATION

Connect a channel output from your interface or recorder into the line input of the Replay Box.
Connect an instrument cable from the Output of the Replay box to your destination amplifier, pedal, or processor. Start with the volume control down, then adjust the volume knob up to the desired level.
For a clean, mastering-grade signal, set the Color switch to Transparent. When a subtle amount of coloration is desired, set the Color switch to Harmonic. This provides low saturation, slight high-end roll off, and some phase shift at the extreme ends of its frequency range (similar to the “Pulte clow-end trick.”)

Replay Box recipes:
Pedalboard interface: Set Color to Transparent to interface your studio with guitar pedals — the possibilities are endless for processing any of your recorded tracks.
Replayed snare drum: Snare needs more distortion or “crack?” Send your snare track through a guitar amplifier with some overdrive, and mic the arp.
Set up the amp in a large reflective room… and mic the room as well for an even bigger sound!
Replayed synthesizer: Are your software/MIDI synth sounds missing some dimension? Send them through a full-range keyboard amp via the Replay Box and mic the room. (Bonus points for micing in stereo!) This classic trick has been used on countless albums.
