installing.
This is a guide to assist in the installation and care of your blinds. Betta
Blinds & Awnings does not guarantee the accuracy of the information contained
in this guide. We recommend an experienced expert installer to rely upon their
own skills. This is based on general knowledge concerning the assembly,
materials and working process of the blinds, which is known to us at the time
of printing this guide, consequently is subject to change and Betta Blinds &
Awnings specifically reserves the right to change this guide without
notification.
We recommend the use of the following Tools: Steel measuring tape, Carpenter’s level, Power or battery drill & bits, Flat blade and Phillips head screwdrivers.
The following should be included for each Panel Glide ordered.
Installation Brackets for Tracks and Pelmets if required & Installation
gloves. When you receive your Panel Glide for fitting, you will receive the
same amount of Pelmet Fitting Brackets (if pelmet has been ordered) as Track
Fitting Brackets.
Brackets Supplied are based on Track size:
When installing and handling fabric blinds, clean, soft cotton gloves must
be worn to avoid marking the fabrics.
INSTALLATION
Since different screws are required to suit different fixing applications, we
do not supply screws. Please ensure you use the correct screws for mounting to
the desired application, for example Gyprock, timber, concrete, brick, steel,
or aluminium. The most important procedure in installing these blinds is to be
sure that the correct anchorage method has been used so that the mounting area
(i.e., wall or architrave) is able to support the weight of the blind and its
operation.
Brick or Rendered Surfaces Warning: Make sure drilling is no closer than 25mm from edge of surfaces as the brick or render may chip or break out.
Face & Reveal
- After receiving the order check the marked width and drop sizes as indicated on the blind against your original order.
- To assist you in establishing the correct location for fitting multiple blinds the room location is marked on each blind, as per your order.
- If all is correct layout the blinds at their location and remove protective packaging.
- Ensure the blind has brackets to suit the application, either face fix or reveal.
- Remove the supplied installation brackets and wand off the top of the track. Remove pelmet brackets as well if pelmet ordered.
- Evenly space and screw the brackets along the front of the architrave or wall/window (depending on face or reveal fit) for even load bearing distribution. The end brackets should be mounted no further than 200mm from the end of the blind.
- Before going any further if pelmet is required, please see fitting pelmets section below.
- Level mounting of brackets is critical for the correct operation of the blind (use a spirit level).
- Betta Blinds supplies mounting brackets only and where appropriate the child safety devices.
- Once the brackets have been installed and levels checked the track is ready to be installed into the brackets.
- Install the blind tracking by placing the front section of the headtrack into the allocated and matching clip end, lift the rear section of the headtrack into the bracket until it locks in. If correctly installed it will click when locked firmly in place.
- When installing and handling fabric blinds, clean, soft cotton gloves (or the gloves supplied) must be worn to avoid marking the fabrics.
- Remove the fabric panels from their packaging on a flat surface (a clean floor is often best) allowing them to lay flat.
- Take the screws out of all top rail carrier end caps and remove the caps.
- Take your first fabric panel and slide the fabric into the top rail making sure the spline is inserted the correct way (See Pic 1). Slide the fabric all the way into the top rail until the fabric hits the other side end cap. Continue sliding fabric panels into all other top rails as required.
- Replace the ends caps and insert screw into place.
- Attach the wand to the track by clipping in place as required.
- After installing use the wand to draw the panels in the required direction to check the mechanism’s operation and to make sure that the fabric is not rubbing against any obstacles. This can damage the blind if left untreated.
- It is important when using this blind that it is operated carefully to prolong the life of the product and maintain the warranty period.
- Providing that the handling, installation and care and maintenance are carried out correctly, the quality of this product can supply many years of trouble-free operation.
Please note: If panels have rear aluminium battens the blind fabric may appear to hang shorter than required after first installing. However, these battens allow for the fabric to drop. This factor has been taken into consideration when the blinds were manufactured.
SETTLING TIME: All Roman Blinds and Panel Glides with Aluminium Battens settle out after installation. The weight of the fabric, size of the blind and environmental factors all effects the extent to which a blind will settle. As this process is somewhat unpredictable the final drop of the blind may vary by up to +/- 10mm. Blinds may take 4-8 weeks of hanging to allow fabric to drop to the required length. Blinds can drop up to 20-40mm after hanging.
Pre-Installation Steps
- Check the marked width and drop sizes against your original order.
- Lay out the blinds at their designated location and remove protective packaging.
Bracket Installation
- Ensure correct brackets for face fix or reveal application.
- Space and screw the brackets evenly along the architrave or wall/window.
- Ensure end brackets are placed no further than 200mm from the end of the blind.
- Level the mounting brackets using a spirit level.
Track Installation
- Install the blind tracking by placing the front section of the headtrack into the matching clip end and lift the rear section into the bracket until it locks in place.
- Ensure a firm click indicates correct installation.
Fabric Panel Installation
- Wear clean, soft cotton gloves when handling fabric blinds to avoid marking.
- Slide fabric panels into top rails, ensuring spline is inserted correctly.
- Replace end caps and screws on top rail carrier.
Final Checks
- Attach the wand to the track and test the mechanism’s operation by drawing panels in the required direction.
- Ensure fabric does not rub against any obstacles to prevent damage.
Linea Valance, Fabric or Woodlook Pelmets for Panels Face Fit
These brackets come as one with panel track clip attached.
Plastic/Aluminium “L” bracket
- Evenly space and snap the plastic/aluminium “L” brackets on the top of the panel track with even load bearing distribution. The end brackets should be mounted no further than 50mm from the end of the blind. Make sure pelmet brackets do not interfere with track mounting brackets.
- Check that all brackets are straight.
- For Linea or Woodlook pelmets attach returns using the small “L” bracket supplied. Be careful not to break Linea/Woodlook pelmets when pushing the “L” brackets into place as they can be a tight fit.
- After installing the track and the fabric panels snap the plastic clasp into the grooves at the back of the pelmet until they click into place. Working from one side to the other. Check that each plastic clasp is secure in place before moving to the next.
Reveal Fit
These brackets come as one without panel track clip.
Plastic/Aluminium “L” bracket
- Evenly space and screw the plastic “L” brackets along the upper reveal of the window for load bearing distribution. The end brackets should be mounted no further than 50mm from the end of the blind. The plastic bracket should be in line with the front face of architrave. This bracket can move in or out to find the correct position. Make sure pelmet brackets do not interfere with track mounting brackets.
- Check that all brackets are straight.
- After installing the track and the fabric panels snap the plastic clasp into the grooves at the back of the pelmet until they click into place. Working from one side to the other. Check that each plastic clasp is secure in place before moving to the next.
Maintenance and cleaning
Regularly remove surface dust gently with a clean dry soft cloth, feather
duster or soft brush or wipe with a dry sponge. Recommended cleaning agent is
mild detergent in lukewarm water. Stains and smudges can be removed with
lukewarm water and neutral soap on a sponge. The sponge should be squeezed
almost dry. Fabric may be sponged but severe rubbing should be avoided. White
spirits may be used for spot cleaning; methylated spirits (ethanol) and dry-
cleaning solvent (Perc) must not be used. If commercial spot cleaners are
used, then instructions regarding testing of an inconspicuous area should be
followed. For any cleaners used, first test and allow to dry on an
inconspicuous area to ensure compatibility. For removing small marks an art
gum eraser can be used with light rubbing. Please note that all fabrics fade
from UV exposure. If blinds are left up for a long time without being pulled
down regularly, all fabrics will fade unevenly. Fabric will fade evenly if
blinds are down during the day, getting even UV exposure. When fading occurs
in that instance, it is even across the entire fabric and is not noticeable.
Professional ultrasonic cleaning can be undertaken by specialist cleaning
businesses.
