Dorman 38461 Door Hinge Pin Bushing Kit
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
Tools Needed
- 1 bolt (preferably longer than 1 inch with a diameter smaller than the diameter of the bushing that will be installed)
- 1 nut (that will mate with the thread size and pitch of the bolt chosen)
- 4 washers
- 2 washers with an internal diameter larger than the bolt chosen but smaller than the outside diameter of the flange of the bushing. [Option 1]
- 2 washers with an internal diameter larger than the outer diameter of the cylinder portion of the bushing [Option 2]
- 1 crescent wrench (that fits the nut chosen for this installation)
- 1 wrench socket (with socket wrench) (that fits the bolt head chosen for this installation)
Please be aware that each of the bushings is a different size from the other. Please take the time before installation to determine which sized bushing fits in its appropriate bore on the hinge.
- Step 1 – Secure the hinge bracket with a vice if the hinge has been removed from the vehicle. Otherwise, move forward with the hinge still on the vehicle.
- Step 2 – Install one washer [Option 1] onto the bolt, and then install the appropriately sized bushing onto the bolt while making sure that the flange of the bushing is facing the washer. Install the assembly on to the bore of the hinge bracket with the correct orientation of the bushing (the flange of the bushing should be on the outside of the bracket). See below:
- Step 3 – Install two washers [Option 2] on to the bolt (once the assembly is inserted on the hinge bracket bore (pictured above)). Next, insert one washer [Option 1] and install the nut until the assembly is hand-tight as pictured below (please make sure that the bushing, hinge bore, and washers are as concentric as possible to allow for proper installation).
- Step 4 – Use the crescent wrench to secure the nut at the bottom of the assembly. Proceed to ratchet the head of the bolt with the socket wrench while holding the crescent wrench securely. Only need to ratchet the head of the bolt until the flange of the bushing is flush to the hinge. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE ASSEMBLY AS THIS CAN LEAD TO THE FORMATION OF CRACKS IN THE BUSHING. This process will draw the bushing into the bore to ensure the bushing is proper installed. See below:
- Step 5 – Remove the installation assembly. The bushing should be press-fit and snug into the bore of the hinge.
