The Curtis Institute of Music provides a comprehensive breakdown of the estimated expenses for students during the 2023-24 academic year. Please note that the information provided is based on in-person instruction and all amounts are subject to change.

Note: During winter break, students are responsible for their own expenses as Lenfest Hall is closed. Single deluxe rooms are available, please contact Patricia.Carpino@curtis.edu for pricing and any questions related to Lenfest Hall.

#8 Comprehensive Fee: The comprehensive fee includes textbooks, facilities, security, internet, IT support, wellness initiatives, and services, as well as recording fees.
#9 Meal Plans: Meal plans are optional for off-campus residents. The available options are:

  • A meal plan priced at $3400 includes 9 meals per week with $400 in dining dollars.
  • An 8-meal plan priced at $750 includes $750 in dining dollars.

ADDITIONAL ANNUAL COSTS – ALL STUDENTS

  • Comprehensive Fee (see #8 below): $ 3,500
  • Health Insurance, if required (12-month premium) (see #2 below): $ 2,500

Additional Information

  1. Curtis will provide financial support for living expenses to students who qualify, in amounts not to exceed $ 1,500 a month for rent expenses. Students receiving financial assistance are expected to develop personal budgets to maintain spending within these limits. Apartments costing more than $1500 a month are the responsibility of the student.
  2. Students are automatically enrolled in a health insurance plan through Curtis that provides coverage for the 12-month period beginning August 15, 2023. The cost listed above is an estimate and is subject to change. Exemptions are possible for students who have comparable coverage through parental or other private insurance plans. See our website for details.
  3. Expense budget does not include the following one-time deposits: Library deposit ($100), Piano deposit ($300 if applicable), and Instrument deposit ($100 other than piano).
  4. Expense budget does not include variable expenses students may incur such as apartment furnishings, piano moving expenses (if applicable), etc.
  5. Students are responsible for their own summer living expenses. This expense budget is for 9 months of living expenses for on-campus and off-campus housing. Curtis will only consider 9 months of living expenses when calculating your budget. Off-campus students usually have to sign a 12-month lease, please consider the extra expenses before signing a lease.
  6. All expenses listed are estimates and subject to change without notice.
  7. For a complete fee structure for Lenfest Hall, please refer to our website. Students residing in Lenfest Hall are responsible for their own winter break expenses as Lenfest Hall is closed during Winter break. Single deluxe rooms are available, please contact Patricia.Carpino@curtis.edu for pricing and Lenfest Hall questions.
