The product is approved according to ISO 7176-19:2022 furthermore the product complies to ISO 16840-4:2009 if the product is a seat.

The instructions on how to prepare the seat and chair, must be carried out before transportation.
The user should transfer to the vehicle seat and use the vehicle-installed restraint system whenever possible, and the unoccupied  wheelchair should be stored in a cargo area or secured in the vehicle during travel.
The wheelchair/product must be placed in a forward-facing position, when used as a seat in a motor vehicle.
The front wheels need to be turned under the frame so as to be in line with the frame before fixation.
Use an approved 4-point strap-type tie-down system according to ISO 10542-1 or ISO 7176- 19, to secure the product. Use either a hook or a strap in the fitting. See figure 1.

The location of all wheelchair securement points are marked with a label. See figure 2. It is only allowed to use the marked securement points.

The pelvic restraint should be worn low across the front of the pelvis, so that the angle of the pelvic restraint is within the preferred zone of 30° to 75° to the horizontal, similar to that shown in figure 3. A steeper (greater) pelvic belt angle between 45°to 75° to the horizontal is preferred.

The back must be placed in vertical position and the seat plane must be horizontal.
Use an approved 3-point belt according to ISO 10542-1 in the product. The belt restraints should be adjusted as tightly as possible, consistent with user comfort. Further the belt webbing should not be twisted when in use.
Belt restraints should not be held away from the body by wheelchair components or parts, such as the wheelchair armrests or wheels. See figure 5.

Shoulder belt restraints should fit over the shoulders, similar to the illustration provided in figure 6.

Check the user manual or assembly instructions for the product, for information about:

  • the minimum weight limit
  • the securement points
  • maximum load for the seat or frame (can also be found on the product label on the product).

The wheelchair’s size and turning radius will affect its ease of access to and maneuverability in motor vehicles.
Small wheelchairs and/or wheelchairs with a shorter turning radius will generally provide greater ease of access and maneuverability.
This product has no provision for wheelchair mounted belt restraints.
Compatible securements:
The wheelchair’s securement points comply with the requirements of ISO 7176-19:2022 Annex B, subclause B2 Geometric specifications.
All approved fittings and securements that are compatible with this specification can be used for securement of the wheelchair during transportation.

Warnings

The product is approved according to ISO 7176-19:2022, furthermore the product complies with ISO 16840-4:2009 if the product is a seat. If the product is a seating system it may only be used as a seat in a motor vehicle together with an approved  wheelchair base/frame which has been tested according to ISO 7176-19.
The wheelchair has been dynamically tested in a forward facing orientation with the anthropomorphic test device restrained by both pelvic and shoulder belts (e.g. a shoulder belt as part of a three-point belt restraint).
Pelvic and shoulder belt restraints shall be used to reduce the possibility of head and chest impacts with vehicle components.
Loose parts and trays must be removed from the wheelchair and secured separately in the vehicle. Other auxiliary wheelchair equipment should be either secured to the wheelchair or removed from the wheelchair and secured in the vehicle during travel, so that it does not break free and cause injury to vehicle occupants in the event of a collision.
The product should be inspected by the dealer before reuse following involvement in any type of vehicle collision. Alterations or substitutions should not be made to the wheelchair securement points or to structural and frame parts or components without consulting the wheelchair manufacturer. The approval is not valid on ‘custom made’ chairs.
Care should be taken when applying the occupant restraint to position the seatbelt buckle so that the release button will not be contacted by wheelchair components during a crash.
Postural supports should not be relied on for occupant restraint in a moving vehicle, unless they are labelled as being in accordance with the requirements specified in ISO 7176-19:2022 or ISO  16840-4:2009. The product shall only be used as indicated in the instructions for use.
The product is not approved for users below a user mass of 22 kg.
