ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Circular knitting needle size 13 (9 mm), 16 in. (40.5 cm) long
Circular knitting needle size 13 (9 mm), 24 in. (61 cm) long
Circular knitting needle size 13 (9 mm), 36 in. (91.5 cm) long
Circular knitting needle size 13 (9 mm), 40 in. (101.5 cm) long

GAUGE
8 sts + 12 rnds/rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in rnds (k every st on every rnd).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATIONS
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.

TECHNIQUE EXPLANATIONS

CABLE CAST ON
Insert right hand needle between first 2 sts on left hand needle, wrap yarn and pull through (as if knitting a st), transfer new st to left hand needle; rep from for desired number of sts.

NOTES

  1. Pullover is worked in one piece from neck downwards.
  2. Piece is divided at underarms then body and sleeves are worked separately – the body in rnds and the sleeves in rows.
  3. When working in stranded colorwork, carry yarn color not in use loosely across WS of piece.
PULLOVER

YOKE
With shortest circular needle and A, cast on 44 (48, 52) sts.
Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working first st on left hand needle with working yarn from right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.

NECKBAND
Rnds 1-4: K2, p2; rep from around.
Rnd 5 (Increase Rnd): K11 (12, 13), M1; rep from 3 more times – you will have 48 (52, 56) sts in this rnd.

BEGIN COLORWORK

Note: Change to longer and longer circular needles as sts are increased and no longer fit comfortably on the needle in use.

Rnds 1-3: With A, knit.
Rnd 4 (Increase Rnd): With A, k4, M1; rep from around – 60 (65, 70) sts.
Rnds 5 and 6: With A, knit.
Rnd 7 (Increase Rnd): With A, k4, M1, k5; rep from to last st, M1, k1 – 72 (78, 84) sts.
Rnd 8: With A, k2; with B, k1; rep from around.
Rnd 9: With A, k1; with B, k2; rep from around.
Rnd 10: With B, knit.
Rnd 11 (Increase Rnd): With B, k3; M1, k6; rep from to last 3 sts, M1, k3 – 84 (91, 98) sts.
Rnd 12: With B, k2; with C, k2; with B, k2; with C, k1; rep from around.
Rnd 13: With B, k1; with C, k3; with B, k1; with C, k2; rep from around.
Rnd 14: With C, knit.
Rnd 15 (Increase Rnd): With C, k7, M1; rep from around – 96 (104, 112) sts.
Rnd 16: With C, knit.
Rnd 17: With D, knit.
Rnds 18-21: Rep Rnds 16 and 17 twice.
Rnd 22: With C, knit.
Rnd 23 (Increase Rnd):
With C, k8 (6, 5), M1; rep from 11 (15, 19) more times, k to end of rnd – 108 (120, 132) sts.
Rnd 24: With C, knit.
Rnd 25: With C, k2;
with B, k1; with C, k3; rep from to last 2 sts, with B, k1; with C, k1.
Rnd 26:
With C, k1; with B, k3; rep from to end of rnd.
Rnd 27: Rep Rnd 25.
Rnd 28: With C, knit.
Rnd 29 (Increase Rnd):
With C, k9 (10, 11), M1; rep from around – 120 (132, 144) sts.
Rnd 30: With C, knit.
Rnd 31:
With B, k2; with A, k2; rep from around.
Rnd 32:
With A, k1; with B, k2; with A, k1; rep from around.
Rnd 33:
With A, k2; with B, k2; rep from around.
Rnd 34:
With B, k1; with A, k2; with B, k1; rep from * around.
Rnd 35: Rep Rnd 31.
Next 1 (3, 6) Rnds: With C, knit.

DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES
Dividing Rnd: Place first 20 (22, 24) sts onto a holder for first sleeve; with C, Cable Cast On 6 (8, 10) sts for underarm, k40 (44, 48), place next 20 (22, 24) sts onto a holder for second sleeve, Cable Cast On 6 (8, 10) sts for underarm, k40 (44, 48) – 92 (104, 116) sts rem on needle for body.
Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working first st on left hand needle with working yarn from right hand needle.

BODY
Rnd 1: With D, knit.
Rnd 2: With D, k2; with C, k1; with D, k1; rep from around.
Rnd 3: With D, k1, with C, k3; rep from around.
Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 2.
Rnd 5: With D, knit.
Cut C and D. Continue with A only.
Rnds 6 and 7: With A, knit.

RIBBING
Next Rnd: K2, p2; rep from to end of rnd.
Rep last rnd until body measures about 5 in, (12.5 cm) from underarm.
Bind off in rib.

SLEEVES

Note: Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working on straight needles.

Place 20 (22, 24) sleeve sts from one holder onto shortest circular needle.
Row 1 (RS): From RS with C, Cable Cast On 3 (4, 5) sts, k the sts just cast on, k20 (22, 24) sleeve sts – 23 (26, 29) sts. Cut C.
Row 2: With D, Cable Cast On 3 (4, 5) sts, p the sts just cast on, p to end of row – 26 (30, 34) sts.
Row 3: With D, k3; with C, k1; rep from to last 2 sts; with D, k2.
Row 4: With D, p1; with C, p3; rep from to last 2 sts; with D, p2,
Row 5: Rep Row 3.
Row 6: With D, purl. Cut C and D.
Row 7: With A, knit.
Row 8: With A, purl.

RIBBING
Continue with A only.
Row 9 (RS): P2, k2; rep from to last 2 sts, p2.
Rows 10-16: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Row 17 (Decrease Row – RS): P1, k2tog, k the knit sts and p the purl sts to last 3 sts, ssk, p1 – 24 (28, 32) sts.
Rows 18-22: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Row 23 (Decrease Row): K2tog, k the knit sts and p the purl sts to last 2 sts, ssk – 22 (26, 30) sts. sts.
Row 24: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 24 until sleeve measures about 14 (15, 16) in. (35.5 (38, 40.5) cm) from underarm.
Bind off in rib. Rep for second sleeve.

FINISHING
Sew sleeve and underarm seams.
Weave in ends.
