6. CHARGING INSTRUCTIONS

Solar Maintenance Chargers are designed to maintain a charged battery (12V) NOT for charging a deeply discharged battery. Prior to charging the battery, check the electrolyte level. If the level is low, add demineralised water to the correct level, as indicated on the battery.
Step 2.
Voltage Check Prior to connecting the SCA solar maintenance charger, ensure that the battery voltage is adequate enough to receive charge. If the battery does not contain enough voltage the maintenance charger will not be able to provide adequate current to maintain your battery. Please Note: The SCA solar maintenance battery charger will not charge from zero volts.
*For voltage requirements see Technical Specifications
Step 3.
Connect SCA solar maintenance charger to battery Connect the SCA solar maintenance charger to the battery, via the 12V battery clamps. DO NOT start the vehicle while the charger is connected to the battery with cigarette lighter or Battery Clamps. Electrical surges from the engine when starting and running may damage your charger.

IMPORTANT!

The black lead & clamp indicates (-/Negative).
The red lead & clamp indicates (+/Positive).
Ensure that the correct polarity is connected to prevent a short circuit.
This charger is not reverse polarity protected.
Ensure the battery is in a safe location on a stable surface with adequate ventilation
Ensure the correct Personal Protective Equipment is being worn I.e. Gloves and Eye WearConnect the suction caps to the SCA solar maintenance charger (where applicable) Attach to the windshield either inside or outside of the vehicle OR on a surface that is close to the battery
Note: SCA Solar Maintenance Charger is NOT waterproof, or water resistant, and must be in a well ventilated area Connect the 12V Battery Clamps to the SCA Solar Maintenance Charger
Connect the RED Battery Clamp to the Positive Terminal (+/Positive) on the battery Connect the BLACK Battery Clamp to the Negative Terminal (-/Negative) on the battery
When ready to disconnect Disconnect the BLACK lead (Battery Clamp) from the Negative Terminal (-/Negative) Disconnect the RED lead (Battery Clamp) from the Positive Terminal (+/Positive) Using a Voltmeter check the voltage of the battery before connecting it back in the  vehicle Ensure that the battery has been secured correctly

Step 4. Charging

Once connected, tinted windows or a dirty solar panel will affect the battery chargers ability to charge a battery . The battery charger will need to be placed in a location where there is sufficient sunlight and ventilation available to be able to trickle charge the battery, and (if required) cleaned with a soft cloth to ensure adequate charge. The charger is designed to top-up charge in a battery due to natural discharge. If your battery is fully discharged please use a suitable 240V AC Battery Charger.
