SCA 385508 4.3 Inch Mirror Mounted Reversing Camera System Instruction
Manual
OVERVIEW
This mirror mounted reversing camera system is installed by running the provided wiring directly from the rear of the vehicle to the passenger compartment. The hard wired system provides a clear and interference free signal to the mirror mounted monitor. The IP67 waterproof camera is powered directly from your reversing light, allowing your system to automatically switch on when the vehicle is put into reverse.

INSTALLATION
-
At the rear of the car locate a suitable mounting location for the butterfly camera ensuring that it is located as close to the center of the vehicle as possible and attach using the supplied screws. (EG: Fig 1) When mounting the camera, make sure the camera does not cover any part of the license plate. With the license plate removed, check if there are any pre-existing holes through which the cables from the camera can be passed through to the boot of the vehicle. (EG: Fig2) Run the cables through the hole and re-attached the license plate.
-
Connect the RED wire of the camera’s wiring harness to the wire that supplies power to the reversing light (this wire is energized when the vehicle is put into reverse gear). Measure the voltage on this wire to ensure it is +12V when energized. Before making the electrical connection to the reverse light, temporarily disconnect the camera from the power plug. Connect the Red wire to the reversing light wire by stripping back the insulation on the wire and soldering the connection, making sure to insulate the join with electrical tape or heat shrink tubing after the connection is made.
NOTE: The camera will have only one wire to connect. (12V power source (+).
There is no need to hook up a ground wire as the camera will be earthed through the RCA lead. Hooking up an earth wire may cause a ground loop. In this case horizontal lines will appear in the image. -
After you have insulated the join you can re-connect the power harness to the camera.
NOTE: For cars with a computer controlled lightning system (CAN BUS) please consult your owner’s manual before installation.
NOTE: Make sure that you do not drill holes in the panels that have an opposite face that is visible outside the car for example guard panels. In fact, whenever drilling holes in the bodywork of a vehicle always check what is on the reverse side. -
Connect one end of the supplied RCA video lead to the RCA lead coming from the camera then run the RCA lead to the front under side of the driver side dashboard (This is were the mirrors loom will be located).
To do this you may need to remove the rear seat to pass the cable into the cabin area. You may also need to remove the door scuff plates to run the wire along the side of the vehicle. The RCA cable will then be hidden when you replace the scuff plates. When the cable is at the front of the vehicle the RCA cable needs to be run from the scuff plate area to the under side of the dash behind the kick trim. (Remove the kick trim if necessary to run cable). -
Mount the Mirror Monitor to your rear view mirror by adjusting the quick connect tabs. Connect the mirror monitor to the wiring loom and run the loom to the underside of the driver’s side dash hiding the cabling as you go.
-
The mirror wiring loom has two power wires that will need to be connected.
a) Connect the Red power wire to an accessories wire that is energized when the key turned to the accessories position. (When the radio is on).
b) Connect the black ground wire to an existing bolt or factory ground using a suitable O-ring terminal. -
Connect the camera’s RCA video lead to the RCA plug on the mirrors wiring loom.
TESTING THE REVERSE CAMERA FUNCTION
- Engage the park brake and turn the ignition key to the ON position. DO NOT start the vehicle.
- Select reverse gear with the gearshift.
The monitor will sense the video signal from the camera and automatically switch on. When switched on, the screen will display an image looking behind the r ear of the vehicle.
