- Turn off all controls before unplugging.
- Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where they may be present.
- Do not vacuum toxic, carcinogenic, combustible or other hazardous materials such as asbestos, arsenic, barium, beryllium, lead, pesticides or other health-endangering Specially designed units are available for these purposes.
- Do not leave the cord lying on the floor once you have finished the cleaning It can become a tripping hazard.
- Use special care when emptying heavily loaded tanks.
- To avoid spontaneous combustion, empty the tank after each use.
- Always wear safety goggles when operating The operation of a drum vacuum can result in foreign objects being blown into the eyes, which can result in eye damage.
- Stay alert and use common sense. Do not use vacuum cleaners when tired, distracted, or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication causing diminished control.
SAFETY CONTINUED
WARNING: Do not use this vacuum cleaner to vacuum lead paint debris, as this may disperse fine lead particles into the air. This vacuum cleaner is not intended for use under EPA Regulation 40 CFR Part 745 for lead paint material cleanup.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury in the event an extension cord is used, make sure the electrical connection between the appliance’s plug and extension cord is firmly and fully connected. Periodically check the connection while operating to ensure it is fully attached. Do not use an extension cord that provides a loose connection. A loose connection may result in overheating, fire, and increases the risk of a burning.
GROUNDING
This appliance must be grounded. If it malfunctions or breaks down, grounding provides the current a path of least resistance to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a grounding plug. The plug must be inserted into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
WARNING: Improper connection of the equipment can result in electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if there is any doubt the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance. If it does not fit, have a qualified electrician install a proper outlet.
- This appliance is for use on a nominal 120 V circuit and has a grounded (See Figure 1).
- A temporary adapter may be used to connect the plug to a two-pole receptacle if a properly grounded outlet is not (See Figures 2-3)
- The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified The green-colored rigid tab extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover.
- Whenever the adapter is used, it must be held in place by a metal (See Figure 2)
NOTE: In Canada, the use of a temporary adapter is not permitted by the Canadian Electrical Code.
NOTE: Ensure the appliance is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug.
OPERATION
CAUTION: This equipment incorporates parts such as switches, motors, or the like that tend to produce arcs or sparks that can cause an explosion. Do not use to pick up flammable, combustible or hot materials. Do not use around explosive liquids or vapors. Do not use at filling stations or anywhere gasoline is stored or dispensed.
CAUTION: Keep filter cartridge clean. Wash whenever a suction loss occurs. Replace promptly any cartridges that are damaged.
- Inspect the filter cartridge. Replace any missing or damaged cartridges. Using the unit with missing or damaged cartridges will reduce the life of the vacuum motor.
- Check that all bolts are in place and tight.
- Check all electrical connections for loose fittings, broken insulation, and other hazardous conditions.
CAUTION: Use vacuum cleaner only with steel drums.
MOTOR
Motor must be connected to a proper and effective ground and must not be used in an area where volatile or flammable materials are present.
**** WARNING: Sparking that occurs during the normal operation of the motor could ignite vapors and cause an explosion.
WARNING: Motor must not be operated above the designed voltage that appears on the nameplate. Overvoltage conditions may cause excessive motor speed that can lead to electrical shock or severe injury to the operator.
WARNING: Any attempt to disassemble or tamper with the motors could create an electrical shock hazard.
VACUUM
Place vacuum head on a steel 55-gallon drum. Connect the electrical cord to the adequate power supply. Connect vacuum hose to inlet and switch motor switch to the ON position.
Leave the filter in place when vacuuming liquids. If planning to fill the drum to capacity with liquid, the filter should be removed. Failure to remove the filter may result in a malfunction of the floating disc and cause overfilling of the drum and damage to the vacuum motor.
CAUTION: The vacuum should be used on level ground when picking up liquids; failure to do so may result in a malfunction of the floating disc and cause overfilling of the drum.
MAINTENANCE
FILTER
The filter is composed of an exclusive polyester fiber that is designed to filter a wide range of materials while offering low maintenance and product durability. During normal use, the filter should be cleaned as needed. The service life of filter can be extended through periodic cleaning. Shake loose dirt off the element. Compressed air can be used to loosen more stubborn particles; however, excessively high pressure can damage the filter.
The polyester filter can be washed using a mild detergent and water. Brushes, especially wire brushes, should not be used because they will permanently damage the polyester media. The entire filter can be removed from the vacuum. Soak it in cleaning solution, rinse with clean water and allow to air dry.
NOTE: Cleaning a filter does not return it to “like new” condition.
The filter is held in place by a 3/8″ nut and rubberized washer. To remove the filter, remove the nut and washer and pull off the filter. When putting the new filter in place, tighten until the gasket is compressed.
If the black gasket end of the filter is worn, the filter will not seal properly in the housing. This will allow dust to bypass the filter and damage the vacuum’s motor. If the black gasket end of the filter is worn, the filter should be replaced.
STORAGE
Before storing vacuum, a drum should be emptied and cleaned. Never allow
liquids to sit in the drum for an extended period of time. Vacuum should be
stored indoors.
