INSTRUCTIONS
This is a Listed appliance. The following important safeguards are recommended
by most portable appliance manufacturers.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property damage when using electrical
appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the
following:
- Read all instructions before using the popcorn popper.
- The cover/serving bowl must be in place before plugging the unit in.
- A popper that is plugged into an outlet should not be left unattended.
- This unit pops with hot air. Do not place oil, shortening, butter, or margarine in the popping chamber. The use of these substances will cause hazards and will damage the unit.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- To protect against the risk of electrical shock, never put the cord, plug, or popper base in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow cooling before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or in the event the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return the appliance to the Presto Factory Service Department for examination, repair, or electrical or mechanical adjustment.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries. Use only genuine Presto accessory attachments and replacement parts.
- Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
- Do not use appliances other than intended use.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
THIS APPLIANCE IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
Important Cord Information
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To
reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a
polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet,
reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician.
Do not attempt to modify the plugin anyway.
A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk of becoming entangled
in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used if care is
properly exercised in its use. If an extension cord is used, the marked
electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the
electrical rating of the appliance. The extension cord should be arranged so
that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled
on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
Connect the power supply cord to a 120VAC electrical outlet only.
Before First Use
- Become familiar with the various parts of the popper (Fig. A) and read and follow the instructions carefully.
- Prior to making your first batch of popcorn, wash the cover/serving bowl in warm, soapy water. Rinse and
dry thoroughly. Do not wash in the dishwasher.
Wipe the popping tray with a damp cloth.
WARNING! To protect against electrical hazards, never fill the base of
your popper with water, immerse it in water or other liquid, or wash it in a
dishwasher.
How to Use
-
Open the two restrictors without the lever and pour a level ½ cup of popping corn into the popping chamber for a full batch of popcorn. Return the restrictors to the closed position. (If a smaller quantity is desired, you can use as little as 2 tablespoons of popping corn.)
NOTE: Two of the restrictors will open completely, but the restrictor with the lever (this is the restrict above the cord) will only open partially. This is by design. Do not force the third restrictor open completely.
IMPORTANT: Never use more than a level ½ cup of popping corn. Overloading the popping chamber may cause the unit to overheat and shut off. It may also cause smoking and scorched corn. If this happens, refer to the Helpful Hints on page
WARNING! Do not place salt, seasoning, butter, margarine, shortening, or microwave popcorn in the popping chamber as this could damage the popper and cause a fire hazard. -
Place the cover/serving bowl over the popper base so the cover handles align with the base handles.
-
Remove the serving bowl lid to allow steam to vent during popping.
NOTICE: Failure to remove the lid will result in chewy popcorn and may result in melting of the lid and the cover vents. -
To avoid steam damage to cabinets, position the popper so the cover vents are not directly under the cabinets. Plug the popper into a 120VAC electrical outlet. Popping will begin in approximately 1½ minutes. When you plug the unit in and also during popping, you may notice popcorn chaff releasing from the popping chamber as a result of the hot air blowing. This is normal.
-
Near the end of the popping cycle, when making a full batch, you may notice a buildup of popped corn on one side of the cover. If the buildup approaches the cover vents, grasp the cover handles and popper base handles and gently shake the popper in a back and forth motion a couple of times.
CAUTION! Do not shake prematurely. Premature shaking releases unpopped kernels from the popping chamber, resulting in poor performance. Unpopped kernels may also escape through the cover vents.
Keep well away from the cover vents during popping. Popcorn varies tremendously from kernel to kernel and, although unlikely, it is possible that a hot unpopped kernel could escape through one of the vents. -
At the first sign that popping is slowing (about 1 to 2 seconds between pops), unplug the unit and snap the lid onto the cover/serving bowl.
-
Hold the cover handles and popper base handles together and immediately flip the unit over. Gently shake the unit up and down first and then side to side. This motion causes any kernels left in the popping chamber to drop into the bowl. It also automatically sifts out hulls, partially popped kernels, and any unpopped kernels. The sifted items fall through the cover vents into the serving bowl lid for easy disposal.
-
Lift the popper base off the cover/serving bowl and set it aside. CAUTION! Do not touch the restrictors or top of the popping chamber as they will be hot.
-
Add salt or seasoning to popcorn, as desired.
NOTICE: If using spray butter, transfer the popcorn to another bowl before applying the spray butter. Spray butter may damage the cover/serving bowl.
Hint: Before adding salt or seasoning, lightly spray popcorn with no- stick cooking spray to add flavor. Salt and seasoning will also adhere better.
Care and Cleaning
- Allow the popper to cool before cleaning.
- Wash the cover/serving bowl and lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not wash in a dishwasher or scour surfaces with steel wool or abrasive cleaners.
- Wipe the popper base, including the popping tray and popping chamber, with a soft, dry cloth to clean. Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleaners. Never immerse the popper base in water or other liquid.
- After cleaning and drying, place the popper base inside the cover/serving bowl for compact storage.
Helpful Hints
-
Never use more than a level ½ cup of popping corn. Doing so may cause the unit to overheat and shut off. It may also cause smoking and scorched corn. Should the unit shut off, unplug the popper from the wall outlet, snap the serving bowl lid on the cover, flip the unit over, and remove the base. Empty any popped or unpopped corn from the bowl. Allow the popper to cool for 15 minutes and then begin again, following the instructions on page 2.
-
This popper is designed to pop regular and premium brands of popcorn, such as Orville Redenbacher’s
Popping Corn. Try different brands to find the one you like best. Yellow popcorn generally pops into larger kernels than white. ® Gourmet ® Some varieties of small and lighter-weight kernel popcorn are not recommended for use with hot air poppers. Refer to any additional instructions by the popcorn manufacturer. -
Always use fresh popcorn for the best popping performance. Store popcorn in a tightly sealed container. Do not store popcorn in a refrigerator or freezer as this can dry out the kernels quickly.
-
If your popcorn does not pop well, it may be too dry. Try adding a little bit of water to the popping corn. Add 1 tablespoon per quart of popcorn. Then place the corn in an airtight container and shake at frequent intervals until the popcorn has absorbed the water. Wait for 3 or 4 days and then try popping the corn.
-
Always remove the serving bowl lid before popping corn. Failure to do so will result in chewy popcorn and may result in the melting of the lid and the cover vents.
