Setup Dimmer Switch with Smart Home Hub Print

When paired with Aeotec Smart Home Hub and SmartThings software that the hub uses, illumino Dimmer Switch user guide will offer the following features:

  • On/off Switch
  • Dimmer control
  • Timer control
  • Power on
  • Power off

Steps to connect illumino Dimmer Switch to Aeotec Smart Home Hub (SmartThings).

  1. Open SmartThings Connect
  2. Select “+” located at the top right corner (second icon from the right)
  3. Select “Device“
  4. Search “Aeotec” then select Aeotec
  5. Select Switch/dimmer
  6. Select Aeotec Switch Dimmer
  7. Follow its steps to pairing
    • Press Start
    • Set the hub that is pairing this
    • Set the Room
    • Tap Next
  8. Now tap the top or bottom Button on illumino Dimmer Switch.
  9. (If Secure pairing available) Scan the QR code or choose to enter the DSK code (pin code located under the QR barcode)
  10. Now wait about a minute and your device should show up as “ Aeotec Outlet “, feel free to rename this.

Control your illumino Dimmer Switch.

You can control illumino Dimmer Switch from your SmartThings interface using either (1) Dashboard button, (2) Device page, or (3) automation.

Control from dashboard:

  1. Scroll down to your illumino Dimmer Switch.
  2. Tap the small circular button in the illumino Dimmer Switch widget. This will turn your dimmer on or off.

Control from device page:

  1. Scroll down to your illumino Dimmer Switch.
  2. Tap the main body of the illumino Dimmer Switch Widget.
  3. You will have these controls.
    • On/Off toggle – turns your switch on or off.
    • Dimmer control – allows you to slide the dim % from 1 – 100% to set a specific dim level.
    • Timer – turns your switch on or off depending on the timer set.
    • Power on – turns your switch on at a specific time or period of time.
    • Power off – turns your switch off at a specific time or period of time.

Automate it:

  1. Tap the Main Menu at the top left. 
  2. Tap +.
  3. Under IF, tap + , then choose what you want to control your illumino Dimmer Switch. It can be a sensor, or another smart switch in your network.
  4. Under THEN , tap +.
  5. Tap Control devices.
  6. Select your illumino Dimmer Switch.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Choose what you want the illumino Dimmer Switch to do:
  9. Turn on or turn off (this will toggle the reverse state, if illumino Dimmer Switch is on, then it’ll turn off as an example).
  10. Turn on or Turn off (this will determine if it will always turn off or always turn on when the IF condition happens).
  11. Brightness Level
  12. Delay this action
  13. Auto turn off
  14. Tap Save.
  15. Then tap Save again.

Automate with illumino Dimmer Switch.

You may use any of the sensors on this device to control lighting, switches, dimmers, or other connected devices in your Smart Home Hub.

  1. Tap the Main Menu at the top left. 
  2. Tap +.
  3. Under IF, tap +.
  4. Tap Device status.
  5. Tap on your illumino Dimmer Switch.
  6. Select one of the available options to be used in an automation:
    • On or off
    • Any time your illumino Dimmer Switch changes state, then the automation will run.
    • On
    • If your illumino Dimmer Switch turns on, then the automation will run.
    • Off
    • If your illumino Dimmer Switch turns off, then the automation will run.
  7. Tap Done.
  8. Determine if you want it to trigger after a certain amount of time in that state using “Stays this status for how long?”
    • If enabled, enter 1, 5, or 10 minutes, or a customized time frame.
  9. Tap Save.
  10. Tap + under Then.
  11. Select what you want this automation to do based on the condition you set from the illumino Dimmer Switch.

How to remove illumino Dimmer Switch from Aeotec Smart Home Hub (SmartThings).

These steps can be performed even if illumino Dimmer Switch are not yet paired to your Aeotec Smart Home Hub.

  1. Open SmartThings Connect
  2. Find your hub in the device list, then select it
  3. Tap More Options (3 dot icon) located at the top right corner.
  4. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  5. Tap General Exclusion
  6. Now tap the top or bottom Button 3x times within 2 second on illumino Dimmer Switch.
  7. SmartThings should confirm that it has removed a device.
  8. Now try the pairing steps at the top again.

Troubleshooting

1. Having issues pairing your device?

  • Move your Sensor within 4 – 10 ft of your Aeotec Smart Home Hub, its possible that it is too far.

  • Remove power from Aeotec Smart Home Hub for 6 minutes, then power it up again.

  • Remove power from illumino Dimmer Switch for 1 minute, then power it up again.

  • Try factory resetting or excluding your illumino Dimmer Switch.

    • Exclude first in case the device actually paired to your hub otherwise it will leave a phantom device in your network that will be difficult to remove.
    • Perform a manual factory reset
    1. Press and hold the top or bottom Button for 20 seconds on illumino Dimmer Switch. LED should light up as solid blue  for at least 2 seconds when you release.
    2. Immediately release the button, and then tap it one more tim e to complete the factory reset. 
    3. If successful, the LED should fade its LED blue in and out to indicate it is ready to be paired.

2. illumino Dimmer Switch showing up as a generic device?

  • Check if SmartThings picked up all of the correct information, follow the below steps to check:
    1. Login to: https://account.smartthings.com/
    2. Click on “ My Locations “, then select the location of your hub.
    3. Click on “ My Devices
    4. Click on the newly created device
    5. Look for “ Raw Description ” and see if there are any values that display as 00, 00.0, or 0000, this may be a key indicator that this device did not pair properly.
    6. If it does show 00, 0000, or 00.0 values, exclude and then re-include your MultiSensor 7.
    7. If it contains values without 00 or 0000, then change the device handler manually
    8. Scroll to the bottom and click “ Edit
    9. Look for T ype , and click on the list, then in alphabetical order,
    * For illumino Dimmer Switch, select **“** **Z-Wave Dimmer Switch Generic”**.
    1. Click on Update
